I just love this. Stupid fat people can't help themselves and now someone feels the need to come in and play Mommy. Because they are not mature/smart enough to decide what to feed themselves. When the government institutes policy to take the place of your willpower... well that's just pathetic. If Mars Inc. wants to make a Snickers bar the size of your arm that's up to them. Your not obligated to buy or eat the whole damn thing, you meat sack.

In other news, the rampant plague of fat people in GB is nowhere near as bad as it is stateside.

/Just invented the "Put down the sammach get off your bloated arse diet".
2004-09-27 10:11:32 AM
Oh, and as for fat kids... you can all tell your Mom and Dad that they must suck at their jobs cause your a swolen tick and they don't love you enough to keep you healthy.

/Off me meds.

Hey - don't buy the big bar and you wont have a big ass

(are there not other things that should be legislated besides this?)

I eat 1500 calories a day.
If part of that is a King-size Snickers, dammit, I have that right. I happen to LIKE King-size Snickers.

I am sick of companies, government, and who the hell else knows who changing things because other people are irresponsible idiots.
2004-09-27 11:13:38 AM
next thing you know they will stop you buying more than one bar at anytime
2004-09-27 12:56:17 PM
Have you seen the fat content in a Big Kat Bar? That alone should be a crime.
2004-09-27 03:28:30 PM
Goddamn limeys.

It's alright, it'll happen here within a year. Fark big government.
2004-09-27 03:41:14 PM
nightbreed, I don't think you can eat a king size Snickers and stay under 1500 calories :)
2004-09-27 04:08:44 PM
Weetabix? Is that some sort of weird European thing?
2004-09-27 04:09:34 PM
Who wants to bet that when the portion sizes come down, the prices stay exactly the same?

/too poor to be fat

"Personal behaviour is increasingly controlled by government commandments," complained one newspaper editorial.

I thought it said government condiments. Nothing to see here...
2004-09-27 04:10:51 PM
So the candy makers get to phase out the less profitable King Size bars in favor of the higher-margin regular sized bars, and spin it in such a way that people hail them for being socially concious. Well played, Cadbury.
2004-09-27 04:10:57 PM
I guess soon you'll only be able to buy beer in two-packs.
2004-09-27 04:10:58 PM
I got one of those giant Hershey Kisses from mommy last Easter. Gawd, what a pain in the balls to eat. Ypu basically suck on a corner of it until it gets soft enough bite off.

/Big Government only wants what's best for us. You DO want what's best for you, don't you?
2004-09-27 04:10:58 PM
This is good fiscal policy. Now they will just get all of you king size buyers to buy two regular size instead.
2004-09-27 04:11:11 PM
just buy two and stfu
2004-09-27 04:11:59 PM
won't fat-asses just have two bars now?

/mmmmm.. two chocolate bars

Food industry: "We should make our bar smaller? Okay, can we charge the same price? Cool. We would've done that eventually, anyway."
2004-09-27 04:14:07 PM
I'm still pissed they got rid of the super size at McDonalds. Being 6'5" and weighing 200 lbs, the large meal isnt quite big enough.
2004-09-27 04:14:53 PM
and today's Snicker's rations are increased from King Size to Bite Size
2004-09-27 04:15:02 PM

//harshly disciplines fingers with stapler...
2004-09-27 04:16:55 PM
This is so farking stupid it's almost unbelieveable.
2004-09-27 04:16:55 PM
If the British government were truly concerned about the dietary intake of its people it would do something about the horrible food served there (excluding the traditional English breakfast of course). I don't know how anyone over there can get fat simply because the food is so horrid. Of course, maybe that's why they have turned to super-sized candy bars.
2004-09-27 04:18:17 PM
Uncle Jam = good '84 reference.
2004-09-27 04:18:24 PM
I, for one, will not stand for this!

Good thing I'm sitting.
2004-09-27 04:19:05 PM
i've got a great idea! how about they just buy three?

/can't count

... first Manifesto for Food and Health published by Britain's Food and Drink Federation ...

I call 'plagiarism'!! I clearly remember reading the original Karl Marx version.
2004-09-27 04:24:19 PM
This reminded me of a good Mitch Hedberg bit. Went something like:

"I got a king size bed, so if I ever have a king over for the night, I'll be prepared. I'll be able to say, 'Oh, you're a king? Well have I got great news for you!'"
2004-09-27 04:24:46 PM
and here I won't usually spend the extra on a KingSize cause they're not big enough...I go for two or three regulars instead.

/chocolate loving female

Warning to any asshats in the US thinking about touching our chocolate bars: Assault weapons are now legal.

That is all.
2004-09-27 04:27:15 PM
"Some 22 per cent of boys and 28 per cent of girls are now considered overweight or obese."

Just goes to show what I've been saying all along...

Girls are fat.
2004-09-27 04:30:09 PM

Have you actually been to England or are you just rehashing the same old stereotypes? The best curries in the world are now made in England. Seeing as how curry is better than any other food ever discovered, it could be implied that English food is in fact the best food on the planet. So there.

What? Our chocolate rations have not been reduced. If they had, I'm sure the govt. would have good reason for it, but I honestly don't recall the chocolate ration being any higher before.
2004-09-27 04:43:45 PM
...and to look at reducing overall portion sizes.

In other words, an 8oz box of cereal that used to contain 8 servings will now contain 9 servings. The manufacturer can now say: "Now with more servings per box" and "Fewer calories per serving"
2004-09-27 04:46:24 PM
nice 1984 ref, and i have been to london. i dont see why everyone complains about the food. its not bad at all
2004-09-27 04:51:05 PM
This is merly a way for the companies to make more money, thats it.

These are still available, people, for under $2.50!

Thats 6 chocolate bars.
2004-09-27 04:53:13 PM
Sorry, won't work. People will just by more.
2004-09-27 04:54:16 PM
err, buy more
2004-09-27 04:58:24 PM
I wonder about those folks who are dieting who are buying eating Snickers bars of any size. Let's just say I'm not on the edge of my seat waiting for the obesity numbers to go down because of this change in Snickers sizing...
2004-09-27 04:59:01 PM
Food portion sizes have been increasing over the years. I remember when a Biggie fry from Wendy's was considered a large. Now it's the standard size.

At a pizza parlor on my old college campus they didn't sell pizza in a small size. It only came in, "Medium, Large and Super!"

We eat so much excess crap that we don't need it's no wonder the US is loaded with lardasses.

/intends on renting Super Size Me
//comes out on DVD tomorrow
2004-09-27 05:10:27 PM
1. Reduce portion
2. Sell at same price
3. Profit!

"in the public good" my arse.
2004-09-27 05:18:53 PM
Hell, nickel candy bars already cost 50 cents! They have been playing this game for a long time. Kinda like a 1 lb. can of coffee being about 13 oz., the physical size isn't different enough to trigger a consumer revolt. Probably a lot of you little squirts don't even remember a 1 lb. can of coffee.

This Old Fart probably needs a nap?
