what, no doo dah?

2002-02-09 08:03:19 AM
DiSSiDENT: The public didn't pay her; the only royals who get public money are the Queen and her husband, and the Queen Mother. Still, as an anti-monarchist I still say that's too much.

What's the betting the Queen Mum outlives them all? Evidence for the preservative properties of pink gin.

Interesting how such a big stink arises over the royals being divorced, would you rather they went back to lopping off heads?

I'll never understand this country's fascination with the British royalty. Who cares?!

Royalty aside, she was someone's mother, sister, aunt, daughter, etc. Man, you guys can be insensitive sometimes! I lost my grandfather in 1996, watched my aunt die in 1998, lost my grandmother in 1999 and my dad in 2000.

Sorry to hear that, Alexandra.

I believe Princess Margaret was the one who made several ethnic slurs about the Irish at a dinner hosted by then-Mayor Jane Byrne of Chicago. Byrne, of course is an Irish name.

2002-02-09 09:19:25 AM
Hello Now that is sad. What a waste...

Elisa Bridges

NSFW BTW!!!!!!

How did the naked girl die?

RIP Princess Margaret. She was a very beautiful woman in her day.

She was in Canada and she accidently got choked by her lingerie.......no really.

Txnkorny: Who? I'll never understand this country's fascination with the British royalty. Who cares?!

Well, you obviously.

The USA is fascinated with British Royalty simply because your nation has very little history.

I really don't want to laugh, but... I mean, death isn't funny, but... Ah, screw it...

RIP poor dead girl

Someguy what the - ?? I always thought that the noble, savage Irish enjoyed ethnic slurs...

Faranoid

I disagree...I think it is mostly the fat housewives who gobble up all the tabloids to read about dirt on the royals. These dumpy gals are I guess intrigued with the notion that a female could somehow rule a nation.

Say what you want about the U.S.A, at least we have never sunk so low as to have a woman in charge!

Just thought that deserved to be posted again. :)

It's only a matter of time, America, before Hillary Clinton's got her feet up on the desk in the Oval office and is smugly smoking a big fat cigar.

And you know it!

A nation mourns carries on with its daily life.

I'm scarred for when the Queen Mum dies, no TV for the next fortnight as all channels broadcast 24 hour 'We'll Miss You Mam' programs.

Will. Never. Happen!

"Say what you want about the U.S.A, at least we have never sunk so low as to have a woman in charge!"

Well now, women in America are getting richer, it won't be long before they can afford to buy their way to the oval office just like all the men before them.

When the article mentioned her "ill-starred romance with royal aide Peter Townsend" I was thinking of the guy from The Who.

Here's the $64,000 question:

Which will happen first: a black US president or a female US president?

2002-02-09 10:58:21 AM
I can't get excited when I see titles like "king", "queen", "grand duke", etc. So the royal family killed the right rivals, conspired against their neighbors, allied with the right popes/bishops/whomever, lalala. Monarchies are even more useless than the US presidency, particularly since WWII.

I hope it is long after I am gone before either happens.

I'm guessing woman. Racism trumps sexism in America.

I feel kinda bad about Princess Margaret dying. Mainly because all I knew about her was from horse jokes on Monty Python's Flying Circus. She apparently had a lot more going on than that. Oh well, glad I learned better.

Oh, and the other grand question of the thread:

Which will happen first: a black US president or a female US president?

I'm not a betting man, but if I were, my money would be on a conservative black man before any woman getting into the presidency. Not because one is better than the other, just because it would be easier for the conservative black man to get support from both special interest groups and large corporations. My guess is based on the "Binkley Theory" as developed by the venerable political scientist Berkely Breathed in his seminal analytic work "Bloom County".

I shouldn't type so much before my first cup of coffee.

I agree with WEBFIEND...I can't see myself voting for a Jesse Jackson or Al Sharpton type, (shudder) but Alan Keyes would get my vote in a heartbeat.

I'm only here for 5 minutes, but during that I would like to take the opportunity to run around with my shirt over my head, waving my arms and chanting "1 more gone, 1 more gone, 1 more gone... 17 royals to go, 17 royals to go-o, 17 royals to go, let's all burn them down!"

Fankervermush.

GOODNIGHT!

A woman never ran the usa?? ..hmmm didn't hillary just leave the white house??

Margaret was once asked at a party, "How is the Queen?" She replied, "Are you refering to my sister, my mother or my husband?"
