Lycaeum has a collection of stories by idiots who have eaten datura. Datura Trips

Eventually I think I started wandering towards another friend's house. I ended up in someone's backyard. I thought it was my friend's house, but apparently it wasn't. For some reason i thought i should help with the raking in the backyard. I started raking, and i don't know if I had a real rake, or just an imaginary one. Someone with a leaf blower came and asked me who I was and what I was doing there, and someone peeked out a window and said something to the effect of "who is that, they're freaky, make them leave." The man with the leaf blower said I had to leave. I did. As I left I remember thinking "why is everyone so mean today?"

Don't get me wrong, I'm a huge fan of hallucinogens. It's just that I'm also a huge fan of scientific testing before ingesting. It also bothers me that I've yet to meet a bathtub chemist who uses a mass spectrometer. Strange things turn up in these batches besides the intended chemical.

Anyone who doesn't know what DMT (Dimethyl Triptamine) doesn't know what tripping is. Strongest ever...only lasts a half hour though. It's also produced by your pineal gland in your brain and opens up contact with the spirit world. The DMT you buy is produced in different plants, toad venom, and other barks and etc. It looks like mothball crystals and is freebased like crack and the vapor is smoked, it tastes like plastic and as soon as you get your first or second hit put the bowl down because another reality awaits you with self-transforming machine elves.

Datura grows all over the place in Southern California - you'll see it in the desert, in the Santa Monica Mountains, and in empty fields late in the summer (like right about now). It does have a lily-like flower bloom and very green leaves, making it stand out in the end-of-summer-brown color of the landscape.

My friends used to call it "wild tobacco" but I never believed anything they said anyway.

There's a classic story from Berton Rouche, the "Medical Detective", about a whole family that got nailed by jimson weed.

Here's the twist: jimson is very closely related to tomato, except tomato stock is very weak; whereas jimson stock is really strong; so people graft tomato branches onto jimson stock to get THE BEST TOMATOES IN THE WORLD.

Two families did this, but only one got sick from the jimson alkyloid. The reason was that the other family plucked all of the leaves off of the jimson stock, leaving only tomato leaves, and the leaves are where the alkyloid is made.

So the family that got sick ate HUGE, DELICIOUS TOMATOES that were full of alkyloid, and the other family ate HUGE, DELICIOUS TOMATOES that had only trace amounts.

Mmmmmmm...HUGE, DELICIOUS TOMATOES.

I have it growing in my back yard. We call it "Moon Flowers". They bloom in the late evening and stay open all night. Very pretty, but we dont eat it!

Hunter Thompson wrote a little piece on his experience with datura. He said it was the only drug he will never try twice... He mentioned something about paranoid delusions and ants running up and down his arms. Unbearable heat, and everything feeling extremely sluggish.

Any drug that Hunter Thompson won't try twice is a drug that I'll never try.

Morning Glory contains Lysergic Acid, similar to (no surprise) LSD. It is active on the Serotonin receptors, and is a true hallucinogen: You see visions.

Datura/Jimson Weed/Loco Weed contains Scopolamine, Atropine, and some others. These act on the Acetylcholine receptors. In other words, COMPLETELY different from LSD. Instead of causing visions, it causes DELUSIONS. The difference is that someone knows that hallucinations aren't real, but delusions are indistinguishable from reality.

Just because someone calls two things "hallucinogens" doesn't mean that they are ANYTHING alike. The US Army-developed drug BZ (the topic of the movie "Jacob's Ladder", if you've seen it), acts like Jimson weed, only much more strongly.

Incidentally, the common nerve gasses (Sarin, VX, etc.) act upon the same receptor as Scopolamine, BZ, Atropine, etc. If you're under the influence of BZ, you're essentially immune to Nerve Gasses during that time. I read an interesting paper from the Air Force about this.

Datura can be quite useful, but in my experience is only really functional in conjunction with peyote or psilocibyn.

My opinion seems to be corroborated by the Yaqi (sp) indians. Anyone who's ever taken an ethnobotany class would be familiar with datura, as would be anyone who's ever read anything by Carlos Castaneda, perhaps one of the most infamous of ethnobotanists.

Of course, if you're trying to get high, or just enjoy yourself, you're a lot better off just smoking pot or dropping acid. Datura is a tool for serious exploration of the mind, not a "party favor".

bugmenot worked for me, using Firefox 1.0PR, but here it is...

An East San Jose property owner has agreed to remove a plant known as locoweed from his property after at least one student got high on it, according to police.

On Tuesday afternoon, a student at Overfelt High School began acting strangely and looked ill after ingesting the hallucination-inducing plant. After being sent to the principal's office for observation, she grew increasingly irrational and incoherent, saying she was so hot she wanted to take off her clothes, said Rick Abeyta, chief of safety and security for the East Side Union High School District.

When a school liaison police officer arrived, he gave the girl a field sobriety test and concluded she was on some sort of drug. She was sent to a hospital.

When officer Dave Gonzales followed up the next day, ``more than a few'' other students at the school told him the girl had ingested a plant growing on a tree in a yard on Calview Avenue, a short distance from the school, Abeyta said. Gonzales also learned that a student at Fischer school, a middle school in the same general neighborhood, had the same sort of experience after ingesting the same weed about six months ago.

When school and police officials approached the property owner, he said he had no idea that children were raiding the plant. Police said he has agreed to cut down the tree on which the plant has been growing.

Officials have since identified the plant as Datura stramonium, which has long been known for its powerful and unpredictable hallucinogenic properties. Also known as jimson weed and locoweed, it can be smoked, brewed in a tea or eaten. People and animals that ingest it can become extremely agitated.

Abeyta said the East Side Union High School District was not planning to warn parents and students about the weed because they consider the recent incident to be ``isolated.''

``It's the first involvement of any of our students that we're aware of,'' Abeyta said of the girl's experience. The Fischer school is in the Alum Rock Union School District.

Last year, poison control centers in the United States received 151 calls about jimson weed, said Rose Ann Soloway, associate director of the American Association of Poison Control Centers.

Am I the only one who thought the other solution, would be for the old guy to sit on his porch waving a shotgun yelling -
"You kids get offa my property"

Amazing that we survive being teenagers.

I tried Datura a couple times, but I locked my self in my bedroom before, Had some nice conversations with people that weren't there. About 30 seeds each dose, no ill effects the next day, I was lucky and I know it. It does differ from true hallucinogens but I knew it wasn't real.

This doesn't really make any sense. DMT is the name of a chemical, and
there aren't different kinds of it. It's mostly found in toads (bufo
somethingorother), so go catch a toad and smoke it.

2004-09-19 04:14:28 PM
My bad, it's 5-methoxy DMT that's found in toads.

2004-09-19 05:09:19 PM
I got my share of that sort of crap (plus your share, his share, her share, that guy's share and about 50-60 other peoples' share) and from what I have seen, I would NEVER FU*K with Jimson Weed, would not eat it for $5,000 cash in hand.

Stick with the weed, you wake up alive the next morning.

2004-09-19 05:30:34 PM
Yeah you pretty much don't screw around with Datura. Also DMT can be found in human spinal fluid. Just thought if we were having a topic about hallucinogens I would join in.

2004-09-19 06:08:44 PM
And why weren't the Mog-Ur and the Medicine Woman around? Was it prepared properly? Were the bones arranged like they should be? And why in the Fark was a GIRL ingesting this stuff? Aren't you supposed to dry it in a specific way so that the spirits do what they are supposed to?

/re-reading Clan of The Cave Bear. Sorry.

"Moran", you're thinking of bufotenine, which is the active ingredient in toad skin. It is similar to Jimson, and ASSBOLUTELY NOT recommended.

Natural DMT occurs in some South American plants, mainly those used by the Mana Cult.

I would personally recommend organic mescaline, it is similar to "acid" but with stronger visual effects and a lot less mental confusion.

Care to elaborate? Keep in mind that the most famous study showing neurotoxicity has been proven false and retracted by the authors.

and it was also the basis for the US Rave ACT, which is still in effect.

There is an awesome book called Coin Locker Babies written by a Japanese guy named Murakami Ryu. Its the touching story of two adopted brothers, one of whom goes on to become a gay pop star and the other who goes on to try and destroy all of Tokyo by polluting the water supply with a US Military produced chemically sythesized nuerotoxin called DATURA.

Did I mention it's a w e s o m e?
