I read that as Bond 007

It would give me great joy if I had the ball to douse it in gasoline and set it on fire. Some cheap a-- collector who would rip off his own mother would die of a heart attack watching it.

2004-09-18 12:35:18 PM
same here, sad to see that the fans had more athletic experiences than the actual players on the field.

I feel sad for the 11 year old mentioned in the story.

/begins to hate humanity again

2004-09-18 12:35:50 PM
What a dumbass. Who'd want his 700th home run ball when they can buy his 701st or 702nd home run ball? What's so special about 700 unless Bonds retires tomorrow?

2004-09-18 12:36:18 PM
You'd think that if there were any justice in the world, the ball wouldn't have gone to some guy that vaguely resembles Beelzebub, Lord of the Flies

2004-09-18 12:37:11 PM
interwoven- i dont think i would risk the thousands if not millions i could get for selling it.

2004-09-18 12:37:44 PM
"The ball was on the ground. It rolled to me. It's mine. I know the truth, " he said.

this guy sounds a little nuts.

2004-09-18 12:38:43 PM
I don't feel bad for that kid at all. My old man never took me to any baseball games - screw the little bastard. Spray on some Bactine and STFU.

2004-09-18 12:38:45 PM
ebay in 5-4-3-2.....

/shakes head..

2004-09-18 12:38:57 PM
The ball was on the ground. It rolled to me. It's mine. I know the truth, " he said. Informed that others had claimed the ball had been ripped from their grasps, Williams replied, "I don't care. There's nothing I can do."

"If these guys want to get a lawyer, fine," he said. "Bring it on. I got the ball fair and square."

Following this greedy asshat's logic I could go hunt him down and take the ball - all under the guise of "fair and square."

2004-09-18 12:38:59 PM
f' this guy who pulled it out......

and f' this guy for going for only one reason to sell bonds' #700 home run. baseball doesnt need fans like this ahole, and its confirmed by the actions of the other man against a f'ing kid. why do kids hate baseball these days? well this might not be the main reason, but how many kids actually enjoy going to baseball games anymore. more times than not there is some drunkard in front of you cussing his arse off. and your only recourse, is to find some better seats......

baseball just can never get it right.....
i sat there and watched the camera sit on the scrum for damn near five minutes, and how many security personnel did i see? 000000000000

2004-09-18 12:39:10 PM
I wish someone would go after my balls with such excitement.

2004-09-18 12:39:26 PM
"A scene like this comes from greed, not from love of the game"

At first I thought she was talking about baseball in general...

2004-09-18 12:40:03 PM
thyocyan- That's why I'll never be a millionaire. I don't have the
greed factor, though sometimes I wish I did. I have enough other bad habits to
make up for it though not to worry.

2004-09-18 12:40:29 PM
Heh, I too thought this was going to be something about James Bond... until I reread the headline...

/Big James Bond Fan
//Doesn't give a shiat about baseball

2004-09-18 12:40:38 PM
"If these guys want to get a lawyer, fine," he said. "Bring it on. I got the ball fair and square."

This moran sounds as lobotomised as your farking idiot of a president - or at least uses the same phrasebook

/runs for cover

2004-09-18 12:40:55 PM
"Asked what he planned to do with the ball, he replied, "Are you kidding? I'm going to sell it. It's the only reason I came to the game." "

what a piece of shiat.

2004-09-18 12:41:24 PM
My precious!! That guys definately a little screwy. I bet if they check under his fingernails they will find that 11 year olds skin.

2004-09-18 12:41:27 PM
It would go a long way for Bond's public image improvement if he's the one who buys the ball from the guy that doesn't care and gives it to the 11 year old kid.

/never happen

2004-09-18 12:46:11 PM
Who's worse? The jackass that yanked the ball from an 11 year old boy, or the guy who's going to pay an obscene amount of money for something that was aided by drug use? I can't tell just yet.

Oh, and I think we can all agree- getting to that 700 homer mark couldn't have happened to a nicer guy.
/sarcasm

2004-09-18 12:46:32 PM
Can anyone honestly say they wouldn't punch out an eleven year old for a million bucks?

2004-09-18 12:47:23 PM
Allright, I figured out how to screw this asshat. Some charity with a lot of publicity (like children who are about to die a horrible death) needs to come forward as soon as the ball is put up for auction. It says, "hey world, I want to bid on this ball fair and square, and then I'll resell it again for charity." No one else bids on it, asshat has to legally sell the ball for say, $500, then charity turns around and sells it for $500,000.

It'll never happen because humanity is too greedy, but it's a nice pipe dream.

2004-09-18 12:47:27 PM
Greedy sick farkers. The world is truely going to hell.

2004-09-18 12:49:42 PM
Why all of a sudden do I get the mental image of this guy a la Smeagol...Photoshoppers? I'd do it, but I'm way too lazy.

This guy is an abomination, plain and simple.

2004-09-18 12:50:08 PM
Nubianz.W.A.

For a million, on National T.V., in the most litigous country of the world? No way.

Get away scott-free with no media attention and a cool million? Chances go way up for that knock-out blow to the 11 year-old.

2004-09-18 12:50:17 PM

Your honor I cite the case of Finders V. Keepers.

2004-09-18 12:53:30 PM
The only person willing to pay millions of dollars for this ball is Todd McFarlane. He bought the McGwire ball, and I think he bought the Bonds #73 ball.

Truth is, people hate Bonds so much that his record baseballs don't draw anywhere near the attention or bring in anywhere near as much money as some other famous baseballs.

/love baseball pre '98 (before roids really got out of hand)

Baseball being a game of great tales, Williams told his. He acknowledged being at the bottom of a pile of people when he wound up with the ball, but he said he hadn't grabbed it from anybody. The ball was loose on the ground and rolled about four inches when he clamped his hand on it, he said,

"The ball was on the ground. It rolled to me. It's mine. I know the truth. "

2004-09-18 12:55:04 PM
Y'all talk about the ball like it's a sneeze in a tissue. Why is 700 so special? Cuz dudes like Todd McFarlane and Charlie McSheen are gonna pay part of that ridiculous amount of money they have for some little piece of history. What do you get someone who has everthing? Historic home run balls.

Now, I, for one, if I ended up with such a souvenir, I'd sell it in a heartbeat. Pay my mortgage, pay off my car, take a few months off, go to Amsterdam or something. Don't kid yourselves...someone hands you a three inch diameter ball and tells you you're holding a quarter of a million dollars in your hand, you're not gonna be thinking about that 11 year old kid and his hurt feelings.

At least (I hope) there won't be a judge involved in taking the ball from a dude who *obviously* caught the ball (I think Barry 007's #600th?).

2004-09-18 12:55:23 PM
what a jerk. i can honestly say, and i hope at least one other person agrees with me, that even though i don't like bonds i would get a lot of satisfaction out of just giving him the ball. In this case, i would get a huge amount of satisfaction giving the ball to the kid. respecting myself is a lot more important than any amount of money.

2004-09-18 12:55:33 PM
f all greedy baseball fans--and f bonds as well--stuck up bastard

2004-09-18 12:56:08 PM
Can anyone honestly say they wouldn't punch out an eleven year old for a million bucks?

Hm, I didn't think of it like that before. I'd punch out 10 of them if I had to.

Some charity with a lot of publicity (like children who are about to die a horrible death) needs to come forward as soon as the ball is put up for auction.

What's the point of a charity if the kids are going to die anyways? I never understood things like that "Make a Wish Foundation," who waste money on kids who are going to die anyways instead of helping those who might live.

I wish someone would go after my balls with such excitement.

How does this sound?

We hates filthy salmonrunningses. They stole it from us! We hates it forever!

XOR

No, that's just a regular merchandise baseball that they're trying to sell with all the renewed hype over Bond's 700th home run. I imagine the real ball will be sold at auction (a real one) where the big spenders go. Do you really think you'd be able to "Buy it Now" the 700th home run ball for $400?

2004-09-18 01:02:02 PM
xor_4200:

In case you are being serious and my sarcasm detectors are just off, that seems to be a normal ball autographed by Bonds. It is not the precious.

2004-09-18 01:02:08 PM
I think the father should have thrown up. It would have created the perfection diversion for the son to snatch it and run.

2004-09-18 01:02:15 PM
"Are you kidding? I'm going to sell it. It's the only reason I came to the game."

bwa-ha-ha-ha.
perfect.

Whoops. Sorry for the repeat nanded.

2004-09-18 01:04:47 PM
America has officially lost it's soul. Did anyone else picture someone cockpunching Norman Rockwell?

2004-09-18 01:06:43 PM
This is why I don't like professional sports. Just doesn't make any sense to me.

2004-09-18 01:12:06 PM
Throw a chair at em!!

2004-09-18 01:14:00 PM
Fark Barry Bonds. He's so jacked up on steroids it's stupid.

2004-09-18 01:14:00 PM
I wonder how far we are from having baseball riots in the stadium.

2004-09-18 01:27:03 PM
Yeah, the kid and his father were really ripped off. The guy that got the ball was there to grab the ball and become rich. they were there for the lollypops and puppy dogs. I mean they definatly couldn't have been in another part of the stadium enjoying the game. They just HAD to be there. Jackasses.

Fark a Duckk

2004-09-18 01:28:46 PM
Crap like this is why I've pretty much given up following baseball (and all major sports, for that matter.) I used to be a die hard Dodgers fan, but now I could care less. Too much commercialism and greed.
