"Hubbard discovered that the number one barrier to study was the MISUNDERSTOOD WORD. He found that the moment a student went past a word he/she didn't understand the rest of the material became more or less "blank"."

Thank God he came along to discover that kids get hungup on things that they don't understand. No one ever thought of that before him, I'm sure.

2002-02-08 12:52:44 AM
The number one barrier to study is that the stuff that you're studying is boring! Bah!

2002-02-08 12:53:05 AM
Hubbard discovered that the number one barrier to study was the MISUNDERSTOOD WORD. He found that the moment a student went past a word he/she didn't understand the rest of the material became more or less "blank".

Noooo,
You come to a word you don't know you work the rest of the material around it backwards, to figure out the words meaning. Or you pretend its dirty, and giggle.

2002-02-08 12:55:56 AM
More proof of Scientology trying to warp our children's minds.

2002-02-08 12:58:31 AM
Orrr you do the intelligent thing and get the dictionary. What a great concept!

I should create a new religous philosophy. It's called: defective human beings should be shutdown.

By the way, were his comments yellow for anybody. I tried peeing on the screen but that didn't help.

2002-02-08 12:59:14 AM
Man, it's scary to think that someone could use the media to promote their beliefs or morals... oh wait, that happens in every show or movie ever made.

If this is something new to you, you've been successfully indoctrinated by mainstream hollywood.

2002-02-08 12:59:44 AM
Seemed that the scientology stuff he used is pretty widely accepted. I guess that's why the author has to say that it was inspired by scientology for anyone to be aware.

Doesn't seem like a big deal really?

2002-02-08 01:00:37 AM
Yeah Techmaniac, you just need to use a yellow highliter... but the text keeps moving out from under the yeloow when I scroll down the screen. I have not figured out how to fix that yet.

2002-02-08 01:01:20 AM
That was just an all-round steaming turd of an article. It's friday arvo and I need something better to while away the last hours of my work day.

2002-02-08 01:07:04 AM
Yeah Jestyr, its a repeat.

2002-02-08 01:10:33 AM
Yeah, and fark L. Ron Howard and everybody in Mayberry.

2002-02-08 01:12:06 AM
And? Things I write tend to have a Zen / Buddhist sort of bent because many of my philosophical tendencies lean towards the Eastern. An overzealous right-winger (*cough*chick*cough) would then look at my work and claim I was trying to subvert the mainstream with evil anti-Christian philosophies. Unless you're writing a purely technical piece (and possibly even then) the philosophies you follow in will leak into the story, whether you want them to or not. Are you going to suggest that Scientologists shouldn't write in any public forum? Personally, I applaud the guy's honesty for not trying to cover up or apologize for it.

2002-02-08 01:13:33 AM
Hubbard is right though, I haven't understood a word anyone has said since somewhere in the '90's and someone said "synergy". My eyes glazed over, the shill kept talking, but it was all bullshiat to me.

I want a new paradigm.

Dammit, so they did brainwash me.

2002-02-08 01:14:09 AM
I've been to a few auditions at the Scientology place. It is worth going there just for the women. There is a large acting network there as well.

2002-02-08 01:15:10 AM
Well OK then.....

I remember reading this interview like 5 years ago...

2002-02-08 01:16:58 AM
Desynch-Nice Tool reference.

2002-02-08 01:21:41 AM
Scientoligists suck ass. I read Battlefield Earth long before the movie was made, and L. Ron Hubbard could write half decent sci-fi, too mad he stopped writing it and WENT INSANE, and took a pile of hollywood stars with him.
Face it, the number one reason why Scientology sucks ass: Tome Cruise was farking Nicole Kidman (Super babe) until scientology went and farked his marraige to hell.

2002-02-08 01:22:54 AM
Damn, look at all those typos. Well, you guys will figure it out.

2002-02-08 01:27:19 AM
Does Scientology even count as a religion? I mean, to count members like John Travolta...of course, Christianity isnt much better. Go Deism!

2002-02-08 01:28:41 AM
I remember reading an interview with Hubbard a while back (I'll try to post the link later when I find it again) about what he thought of the "new religion of Scientology" that was starting up around him (this was way way back). He though it was a load of crap. He wrote Dianetics as a satirical "bible" based on sci-fi. Some people just go way too far with things...

Now if you'll excuse me, I've got to go launder my towel before the bumpy green and yellow spaceships that look like mis-shapen bricks come to pick me up.

2002-02-08 01:29:48 AM
HAHA!!! You Yanks are all asleep now and I have all the chicks!!! This site is loading real fast. Hmm...I'll be right back

Superman told them "We'll make this decision the way we make all our decisions, the greatest good for the greatest number," at which point he immediately told the other SuperFriends to save the city. Though this is a fairly common non-Scientological ethical precept...

Uhh...yeah. Jeremy Bentham called it Utilitarianism. Look it up, jackass.

He found that the moment a student went past a word he/she didn't understand the rest of the material became more or less "blank"

Then why did Hubbard misuse so many existing words, and make up so many others? Jackass.

Scientology is nothing more than a cult. For more info:

I completely understand that a person will add some of their own religious and philisophical views to anything that they write. But I have a serious problem with a religion that is based around a money making pyramid scheme.

Scientology is the very definition of an evil religion. Though there will be people that say that all religions exploit their members they are not specificly created to do so. Scientology was created as a money making scheme. To be able to learn more about the faith and the secrets of the religion you have to pay money. The easiest way to make money to give to the church is by converting other people to Scientology, and then you get a percentage of the money that they then spend towards Scientology towards your own account towards enlightenment. Hello! can we say pyramid scheme?

Any other religion I do not mind if they want to try to influence the people with their beliefs and philosophies... but Scientology is nothing but a religion of fraud and exploitation.

Hmmm.

East Bay Express published an article on January 2nd on Jamie Kennedy, the great-grandson of L. Ron Hubbard.

"Jamie Kennedy, slam poet, writer, and self-described 'asshole,' is the great-grandson of L. Ron Hubbard, the founder of the Church of Scientology. Not that the Scientologists want you to know that. After all,
Kennedy does tend to shove Otter Pops up his ass onstage, grabbing his nuts, screaming, and generally making an insane spectacle of himself at his monthly shows at the Stork Club. Then there's his complete and total
denunciation of the so-called religion. 'My great-grandfather was probably one hundred percent, totally full of shiat,' he says. 'What's really impressive about him, in contrast to other religious leaders, is that I don't think there's a single word that he ever said that was true.'

2002-02-08 02:37:54 AM
REPEAT!!!

2002-02-08 04:19:31 AM
I thought scientology was a load of crap until I went to a few meetings. Now I know it is much better than Cats, I'm going to see it again and again.

2002-02-08 05:24:51 AM
Has anyone noticed that they keep mentioning Engrams in Start Trek Voyager?

I didn't watch it on purpose of course, I was paralysed in hospital, and the doctors wouldn't change the channel.

2002-02-08 07:22:31 AM
So what? He-Man used to have sumblinal messages in it instructing me to kill prostitutes. This is nothing new.

2002-02-08 07:31:20 AM
fark. Now I'm all creeped out.

2002-02-08 07:33:59 AM
Damn it they have robbed me of my last morsel of innocence. Not the Muppet Babies, please god no.

2002-02-08 08:32:44 AM
Scientology, the "religion" for empty-headed celebrities, and dumbshiats who like shelling out tons of cash for a bunch of hooey.

L. Ron Hubbard sucks dick in hell.

Oh, and Battlefield Earth sucks the hard one.

2002-02-08 08:55:20 AM
Really, is Scientology any more silly than say, Christianity, Judaism, or any religion?
Not really.
After all, Don't they all worship books written by man.

2002-02-08 09:00:27 AM
Bri, it's good to sound gay. Then people assume you're witty and well-dressed.

"I also used one of L. Ron Hubbard's discoveries in the field of study in a Muppet Babies episode I wrote."

Surrealism lives!

2002-02-08 09:09:50 AM
Simpman: Have you ever read this stuff? Christianity is stupid, but trust me, Scientology is way stupider.

2002-02-08 09:11:21 AM
"I should create a new religous philosophy. It's called: defective human beings should be shutdown."

Amen.

2002-02-08 09:13:48 AM
Scientology is the the Darwinian refuge of our times. The weak get sucked in and are worked to death. Everyone else laughs at them and enjoy the comedy of Scientology propaganda. Woo hoo Battlefield Earth!! Cost the COS $80 Million and still made them a laughingstock!

To quote Tool (and someone else in this thread):

Fark L Ron Hubbard and Fark all his clones
