Nope - I didn't want to see that, but I'm not American.

I am an "American't stand Eminem".

2004-09-16 10:48:11 AM
no talent whine monkey.

2004-09-16 11:09:27 AM
I think it'd be nice if someone used that same sock as a gag for him.

2004-09-16 11:15:34 AM
Damn. He even sampled someone else's stage act.

2004-09-16 11:18:03 AM
I don't care what you all think. I FARKING LIKE EMINEM, and that happens to be the way it is. And I'm not a trendy MTV-watching teenybopper either. I listen to mostly underground rock and metal. Eminem is for real, and anyone who can't see past the fact that he's popular isn't paying attention to what he's ACTUALLY saying, and not what the tabloids tell you about him.

2004-09-16 11:31:50 AM
Now I'm just curious: What IS he actually saying? I mean, besides misogyny, homophobia, violence and the occasional discordant rant about how he wuvs his widdle daughter?

2004-09-16 11:32:02 AM
A bit touchy, eh GuinnessDrinker? :)

He's certainly talented, and he makes some decent points in his songs (relative to the topics of most rap songs these days). But he's far from the top 10 in today's hip-hop scene.

no talent whine monkey.

Even if you dislike him, it's hard to argue he doesn't have talent.

2004-09-16 11:40:50 AM
ElCorridor, that sums up most of his lyrics. However, he gets something decent across from time to time. After the Columbine incident, he does manage to point out something much of America had been ignoring, namely that violence and school shootings had been occurring for a while but that it only got the nation's attention when it happened in an everyday (predominantly white, IIRC) suburban district:

A dude's gettin bullied and shoots up his school
and they blame it on Marilyn, and the heroin.
Where were the parents at? Now look where it's at:
Middle America--now it's a tragedy,
now it's so sad to see, an upper class city
havin this happening

Plus, he has no problem recognizing that half of his appeal isn't due to talent, it's due to image (including his skin color). If I recall, Vanilla Ice wasn't exactly willing to cop to that, no matter how true it was.

As for the rest of his mass-market lyrics, they're pretty lame.

HumbleGod: Plus, he has no problem recognizing that half of his appeal isn't due to talent, it's due to image (including his skin color).

"look at my sales, let's do the math, if I was black, I would've sold half"

ElCorridor: Eminem is NOT a homophobe. That's what the tabloids say because it makes for sensational journalism. I'll buy that he's probably a misogynist, if only because every single woman that's ever been in his life, including his mother, every girlfriend he's ever had, and his wife, have used him and spit him out, and he farking hates their guts, as he should. The violent lyrics are just a little game he likes to play to piss off all the little whiny PC people that gets offended over that kind of stuff. If you actually listen to the lyrics to some of his songs that AREN'T on the radio and MTV, he basically says that he doesn't mean any of it seriously, and if you're the kind of person who takes things like that seriously then you're a farking idiot who needs to get a life. You actually have to exercise your mind and read between the lines though, something most sheeple aren't willing to do in this era of disposable pop music. It's not all out in the open, and that's the way he wants it. Oh, and he never wanted to be famous and be played on MTV next to Britney Spears and all that crap. He wanted to make enough money to give his daughter the life he never had. And he's pissed because now that he's famous everybody who treated him like shiat and people he barely even knew are coming out of the woodwork to ask him for money, and it irks him. I know it would irk me too.

Here's the deal: Eminem had the most wretched childhood you could possibly imagine. His mother was a dope fiend who doted on him to impress her white-trash friends, he never even saw his freakin' dad, he couldn't even afford a pair of shoes growing up because his mother was too lazy to work, and he got his ass beat at school on a regular basis just for being white. I myself had a pretty farked-up childhood, so I relate to a lot of the anger in his songs. I too got bullied, and my parents were abusive. You can bet your left eye that if murder were made legal, I'd shoot up some of those motherfarkers that made my life miserable growing up. I'm not going to do it, obviously. But I too feel that rage at times. As someone else pointed out, he made a good point about Columbine. Everyone wanted to blame video games, the movies, rap music and all that stuff for the killings, but nobody actually wanted to use their brain and realize that it was because the two kids who did it were getting their asses kicked and it drove them insane. Nobody ever blames the bullies. And then after Eminem wrote a song about one of the bullies he dealt with, the asshole actually had the nerve to try and sue him for it. It's people like this who make me sick, and that's why I can respect Eminem. Trust me, knowing what I know about anger, I can easily tell the difference between musicians who are really angry and those that are just doing it for the attention/money. And Eminem is for real, my friend. Limp Biskit and Marilyn Manson were fakers. Before you judge Slim by what you hear about him in the papers or by the lyrics of one of the songs they play on MTV, I suggest you pick up an actual CD of his, listen to it the whole way through, and concentrate on the meaning of the lyrics and what he's trying to get across. If you can get past the swearing and macho posturing, he actually makes a lot of sense.

The one other thing I like about him is he truly doesn't give a fark what you think about him. He makes music for HIM. If you hate him, he'll say fark you. If you like his music, that's cool, but he's not going to kiss your ass and be your friend just because you think a few of his songs are hot. He's sick of adoring fanboys and girls and wants to be left the fark alone and raise his daughter. Oh, and just to reiterate, the homophobia thing was bullshiat. It was concocted by the media. The song "Criminal" was meant to be a tongue-in-cheek stab at people who get offended over stupid stuff.

Sorry about the novel. Hope this explains it a little bit.

Hasn't anybody shot this tard yet?

Or, to paraphrase another one of Em's lyrics: If you're stupid enough to believe that when he says in one of his songs that he wants to kill someone, that it ACTUALLY MEANS he wants to kill someone, then, in that case, he wants to kill YOU. Because you're stupid enough to believe that him saying in a song that he wants to kill you actually means that he WANTS TO KILL YOU.

Please fire up, please fire up.

As good a lyricist Eminem is, when he takes stuff to MTV it really doesn't help the good part of his image. It's kinda hard to support him when he's parading around with a sock on his dick.

2004-09-16 12:59:30 PM
call him what you will, but if you are a fan of this genre of music.. he is one of he best ever.

i think if he werent on MTV or the airwaves so much (overplayed) people might like him.
or we'd still have the people who hate rap no matter what.

say what u will about him, but if u say he doesnt have talent at what he does, u are very very wrong.

he is not far from top 10 either..
he is like.. oh.. top 5?

please dont talk about this genre of music when u have no clue about it.

(if its popular, farkers won't like it)
yep.. 100% true.

Didn't The Red Hot Teeny Peckers do this already?

2004-09-16 01:32:58 PM
I for one welcome or new dongsock overlords.

But seriously, Eminem is an excellent rapper, and the majority of people who don't like him can't name a single rap artist that they do like.

2004-09-16 01:43:30 PM
I love some of Emenim's music, but he is no Anthony Kiedis and shouldn't pretend to be. The Red Hot Chili Peppers rule!

There's more of that trademark Compassionate Conservatism.

Eminem is a damn good rapper. I especially like him because he stirs shiat up that needs to be stirred and he points out hypocrisy. He's brought social activism into a musical genre that was really degenerating into nothing more than bling and biatches. He opens a little window on ghetto life that most people in gated neighborhoods couldn't even comprehend.

If he'd been a hairy dude the papers would be going on about 'disturbingly hairy'. Men, I urge you, let's all tolerate our various amounts of body hair.

Actually, I do want to see this...

2004-09-16 03:33:03 PM

Covers up his peener with a sock ? Why did he do that, did someone lose the thimble he was supposed to use ?

Jeebus, I rather have Britney spears run the country with her stupid boyfriend, then have to see Eminem in the media anymore. My only hope is that Eminem's popularity will fall even faster than M.C. Hammer's.

Anyone else picturing GuinnesDrinker in a basement surrounded by candles, foaming at the mouth and kneeling before a poster of Eminem?

Just me? OK.

Screw Eminem,

I was more interested in what Carrie Fischer had to say about her slave girl costume later on in the article.

What exactly does she imply when she states 'you could see straight to Florida'? Could anyone draw me a picture - mental or visual would suffice. No ewoks please.

Cheers Toyvo

2004-09-16 03:36:15 PM
I liked it better when the Red Hot Chili Peppers did it.

Now it's just old and busted.

Oh, and I love rap, but Eminem is only average at best. He's not successful because he's good, and he's not even successful because he's white. He's successful because of Dr. Dre, simple as that.

2004-09-16 03:37:16 PM
I have a couple Eminem records and I have to say that while his lyrics are clever and he can dance around the beat when he raps, his music loses much of its appeal when it's not liberally soaked in the killer production talents of DR. DRE. Dre makes Eminem's music funky, fun, sonically interesting and worth bobbing your head to. I think "Lose Yourself" is one of the more plodding, dreadful beats this side of "Sunglasses at Night" and that new one I heard in the mall the other day is just as bad. BRING BACK DRE and all will be well!! Why is it the plight of so many creative types that once they get some success they insist on doing EVERYTHING themselves?? When do people forget that it's sometimes smarter to REMAIN surrounded by incredible talent?? S'too bad...

List of other rap artists available upon request.

GuinnessDrinker

Take it easy, big fella.

2004-09-16 03:37:37 PM
GuinessDrinker he is paid too have the image you see before you. Its an old act and played out. Em was all right in the beginning and I remember seeing him on the side stage at Warped Tour, when he got booed because he took over Cypress Hill's Spot, but now he is just utterly annoying. You can only whine about your mom and your childhood so much before it gets annoying, for reference see KORN they have been trying the same shiat. He is rich and has a decent life now so there is no reason he should be complaining about all that crap anymore. I'll respect him more if he actually takes a que from Mos Def or maybe Talib and does rap that means something and has some kind of messege.

2004-09-16 03:37:46 PM
When the Peppers did it it was great.

There's a photo of Frusciante naked, doing a solo with his back to the audience and there's a sock on the ground in front of him.

2004-09-16 03:38:07 PM
so, now he's borrowing Red Hot Chili Peppers' sock thing from a few years ago?

shouldnt this story have the [sad] tag?

If there's one thing America wanted to see...

Who's this 'America' guy and who wants to beat the crap out of him with me??

2004-09-16 03:38:56 PM
Well, I liked the look of Anthony Kiedis in that getup, and I'll probably like the look of Em in that getup, too.
Why?
Because I'm a female chauvinist pig.
It's okay, though, hairy guys can be hot, too.

There is a picture of Moby like this from last year or so. Doesn't Eminem hate Moby? Maybe its a snap at him.

Listen.

Having "talent" doesn't mean anything. You can have "talent" swallowing flies. It doesn't mean it's something deserving of constant public and media exposure.

Does Eminem have "talent"? Sure. So do whores. Does that mean his music is "good"? No.

The fact of the matter is that people who like Eminem's music are suffering from a form of Stockholm Syndrome. Through repeated contact with our hostagetakers, we begin to sympathize with them, and from repeated contact with Eminem, we begin to think we like him.

But it's not liking---it's just familiarity.

Pete Townshend would beat Eminem to death with his guitar and one hand, and with the other hand he'd write another amazing anthem of teenage rebellion.

Eminem fans: get over yourselves and him. Read a book and get some culture.
