Here are the facts:

Larry Flynt has alleges that in 1970 George Bush was was dating a woman named Robin Lowman (now Garner), and that he arranged and paid for an abortion for her. Of course, abortion was illegal at this time.

Most infamously, Larry Flynt made this claim to Bob Novak live on live on CNN in 2000, then CNN cut to a commercial, ended the interview, edited the comments from the transcripts, and eventually deleted the video from their archives.

Mrs. Garner has not talked about the allegations on the record. Mr. Garner has threatened lawsuits and much worse to anyone who present the allegations as fact.

Larry Flynt, of course, was responsible for the spectacular end of the political careers of a couple of very powerful republicans. However, by the time of the 2000 Bush campagin it seems republican stratagists had learned how to effectively neutralize the threat presented by Larry Flynt's well funded investigators. I do not know how. There is speculation, of course, that Mr. and Mrs. Garner came into a small amount of cash in the year 2000 -- probably not more than the million or so dollars that Larry Flynt was known to offer people willing to talk to him.
