2004-09-09 11:53:51 AM
sorry about the tag. i didn't want to rile up the ABB crowd too much.

the bile meter on some of the threads recently has been pegged. we need some calm discussion

A post at FreeRepublic sums up the situation:

[...]

WHAT? A freeper that said something bad about BUSH? The sky must be falling.

2004-09-09 11:55:19 AM
Because there was only one brand of typewriter!

2004-09-09 11:55:29 AM
I'm a member of the ABB crowd...

But I have to admit that these documents look highly suspicious. Looks like a forgery, and a pretty crappy one at that. In fact, it looks like the original was made in a word processor rather than a typewriter.

2004-09-09 11:55:33 AM
Nevermind, just read the memo.

2004-09-09 11:55:33 AM
Ok, so I'm supposed to believe this guy's blog above the Nat'l Guard servicemen who are now coming out to state that they NEVER SAW George there?

And the blog has a link to FreeRepublic? HAHAHAHHA

Don't think so.

2004-09-09 11:55:38 AM
We didn't land on the moon, either.

2004-09-09 11:56:52 AM
RTFA, then click on the Powerline link cited and read it. some interesting observations

2004-09-09 11:57:12 AM
And who exactly is suprised about this?

/didn't RTFA

2004-09-09 11:57:21 AM
Oh yeah, and:

And can we, as a nation, look any more incompetent to the rest of the world, than we do having these 2 ass clowns fighting over the title of "Leader of the Free World"? A title which seems to be stretching the limits of believeablity and into the realm of oxymoron in the days of the PATRIOT Act and double secret TSA "rules".

Whee!

2004-09-09 11:57:43 AM
So even if this crap is true, how's it going to kill his chances. He'll just fight fire with fire and attack Kerry's record.

It's a foregone conclusion that rich politico families bribed whomever to get their kids out of Vietnam...

I wouldn't tolerate it, and would use the info to ruin my opponent's reputation, but Bush already HAS no credibility.

It apparently doesn't matter to whatever dumbasses want to vote for him...

2004-09-09 11:57:43 AM
farked

Lets all just blame the Big Metal Hand in the sky and go on our seperate ways.

2004-09-09 11:59:05 AM
If the truth isn't on your side, cloud the issue with whackjob claims that nobody will bother to research.

I guess they also "forged" the entire interview of Barnes explaining how he used his influence to get Fortunate Son Bush at the top of the list for guarding the air over Texas during Vietnam?

How this got greenlighted, I'll never know, but my time on Fark is coming to an end if this sort of crap passes for anything credible.

2004-09-09 11:59:06 AM
It apparently doesn't matter to whatever dumbasses want to vote for him...

Hey - dumbasses have a right to vote for Kerry - no matter how stupid it makes them look.

2004-09-09 11:59:06 AM
Who cares about silly documents? Bush is a forgery of a human being!

There was a comment on proportional spacing on the page. I had a proportional spaced typewriter in the 1980s that had belonged to my father long before that, probably in the 1960s. It was an IBM that would shake the desk when you powered it up and could launch books across the room with the carriage return.

No idea about the superscript th, and I don't care enough to ask somebody who would know. Really, I don't care if Bush was too busy snorting coke to fly and Kerry was murdering Vietnamese children when he was supposed to be patrolling the river.

2004-09-09 11:59:20 AM
Oh, take back my comment in the Kerry thread that no Bush things had been greenlit.

Interesting read, though.

2004-09-09 11:59:22 AM
What, not one of those little balls of other fonts had a superscript th?

2004-09-09 11:59:23 AM
I'm glad it wasn't a good forgery. That kind of effort should be used on stuff far more important than this nonsense.

This was 30 years ago. He was 22. He got a sweet deal because he was connected. If I could get my son out of a dumbassed war like vietnam I would too. Reserves play fast and loose with drill dates all the time. So what?

There are a LOT better reasons to be pissed off at Boosh than this.

2004-09-09 11:59:52 AM
Are people actually being swayed by these 30 year-old attacks on military service?

Kerry was only GRAZED by a bullet! Some hero!

Sometimes, Bush did NOT fly planes on the weekend!

I guess they think talking about economic restructuring and environmental revisions are too complicated for the newswatching public to digest.

2004-09-09 11:59:54 AM
Wow, good point.

2004-09-09 12:00:05 PM
I predict a LOT of people in this thread who don't RTFA and jump to conclusions.

The headline makes it seem like Bush forged his own memos. I hate Bush, but that's just not fair.

Whatever idiot forged these memos needs to realize they're not doing their side any favors by behaving in this way AND not realizing they didn't have MS Word in 1973. Moran!

2004-09-09 12:00:42 PM
Ok, maybe the regular civilian typewriters couldn't do that, but what about the super-advanced black-ops typewriters that the military was developing? Hey? Has anyone thought of that?

2004-09-09 12:00:43 PM
This guy is a bigtime Freeper, what's he doing writing this?

Does he hate JimRob and America, too?

2004-09-09 12:00:50 PM
woah. You know that somewhere in the wings is an Oliver North to take the rap for stuff like this, though.

Your family's share of Bush's debt is now $52,000.

When can we expect payment?

2004-09-09 12:00:57 PM
So "speculation reprinted in non-factchecked blog" now counts as truth?

2004-09-09 12:01:15 PM
past is prologue:

If there's one enduring motif in the life of George W. Bush, it is
that he's always been sheltered from the consequences of risk -- that
is, of failure. Exposed to the draft, he had business and political
associates of his father get him a slot in a National Guard unit far
from Vietnam. Below average student, Ivy League schools.
As an oil bidness entrepreneur, he would have gone
belly-up on several occasions but for the intervention of more such
associates, for whom the notion of helping out the vice president's boy
had a certain je ne sais quoi.

No wonder risk and opportunity are all jumbled up in the mind of George
W. Bush. Privilege has trumped risk at every turn in his life. ...
...........
The dirty little secret of Bushonomics is that risk -- excuse me,
opportunity -- is for suckers. Like the American people.

2004-09-09 12:01:16 PM
Well the article is completely farked, so we can't read it.

I feel sorry for anyone who's site is posted here...almost always seems to guarantee the site will be down within an hour, and usually within minutes.

This whole thing is stupid, we're biatching over which of our sketchy balls presidential candidates is lying less over what happened during the vietnam era.
