spock can dig it.

2004-09-09 10:05:08 AM
Just imagine the body odor of 5000 horny hippies beating it that will be emitting from the venue.

2004-09-09 11:17:21 AM
simultaneously even

2004-09-09 11:18:49 AM
I was in a mass marching band drumline at the 1999 Gator Bowl. It was awesome to hear over 100 snare drums, and as many quads, bass drums, and cymbols playing in unison. Talk about LOUD!

" He believes "music and rhythm is the antidote for hate," and says it seems appropriate "since the world is on fire.""

While I, on the other hand , believe a really good punch to the face, and a "You're farking with the wrong person !" yelled at my nemesis is a better antidote for hate.

Too bad I'm only a 145 lb nancy-boy. Guess I better go get my drum.

2004-09-09 11:19:57 AM
HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!! "BEAT IT"! GET IT? "BEAT IT"! HAHAHAHAHAHA!!

bah.

2004-09-09 11:21:29 AM
Great headline!

I was ready to participate, but then I found out it was about drumming... :op

2004-09-09 11:22:29 AM
Before I RTFA, I really did think for a split second that all of these hippies were going to "beat it" in a circle. Alert the sperm donors! Hell, Mellissa Etheridge dosen't seem to picky for who she chooses to be the sperm for her babies...

2004-09-09 11:22:39 AM
Help, help!!!! The world is on fire! Where's Dennis Leary?

2004-09-09 11:25:03 AM
for a second, I thought the poster was talking about beating it and I though...at any given time there's WAY more than 5k people beating it around the world...

2004-09-09 11:25:25 AM
i for one, blah blah blah synchronized meat-beating overlords...

/didn't RTFA, and probably made a false assumption
//don't really welcome them either...

2004-09-09 11:26:53 AM
i thought i would get a jump on them and start right now...

/nothing new about that

2004-09-09 11:27:35 AM
Paris Hilton beat that record months ago. No news here.

/Pretending I didn't RTFA.

2004-09-09 11:29:26 AM
It's a shame that the hippies didn't die with the 60s.

2004-09-09 11:33:05 AM
Nice try, Mickey. Like this will work. Dumbass.

2004-09-09 11:33:48 AM
Wow, and here I was thinking nobody can fling more sh*t than Dave Matthew's tour bus driver.

2004-09-09 11:36:29 AM
Hasn't he ever heard of the Internet? Fark can get at least 5,000 people to beat it with a single post.

2004-09-09 11:36:35 AM
I figured this would be more along the lines of a Michael Jackson stunt...

/didn't RTFA, obviously

2004-09-09 11:37:07 AM
I heard some of their recent post-Jerry stuff.Really good.I could swear it was from '69 or '70..

2004-09-09 11:37:21 AM
Can we get the "brown noise" to be played by these drummers?

/kenny may be killed from it

2004-09-09 11:38:30 AM
Mickey Hart is old-n-busted.

/former Deadhead

"You go into trance to be a better person."
Ah, I see.

I'll keep that in mind as I fly overhead with a rented helicopter and unload my evil, EVIL supply of water-balloonage.

2004-09-09 11:43:14 AM
I should also make a plug for 89.3 FM in Dallas for their Dead show called Lone Star Dead (8-10 pm Friday nights).Great stuff!

It's a shame that die_kluge didn't die in the womb.

"Their" being The Dead or Phil & Friends?

Phil & Friends is hacker speak for good.
The Dead is hacker speak for bad.

Now I'm hacker speak for cool.

You obviously didn't see The Dead on Leno a couple of weeks ago. I always knew Bobby had an inferiority complex, probably from being inferior in most every way to Jerry, but to see him donning the Big White Beard and taking over the lyrics to "Touch of Grey" is just plain creepy.

Reminded me of how Phil wanted to name "Steal Your Face" "Skullfark". He was 30 years ahead of poignancy.

2004-09-09 11:50:02 AM
Sweet Jesus, no. Drum circles are one of the worst things that can happen and the more people you get in them the worse it gets. I'm a percussionist myself and these things are an abomination. It might be ok if the people in them could understand that sometimes you have to be back up but everyone always thinks they are the Eddie Van Halen of drums when they do that. 7 Van Halens can't all solo at once, it sounds like crap. I can't imagine the horror that would be 5,000.

Seen "The Dead" in concert? MASSIVELY old-n-busted!

Joan Osborne sings the Jerry parts. Bob sings the Bob songs. Phil sings croaks the Pigpen material and "some guy" plays adequately in a Jerry-esque style.

Big budget kareoke.

(also former deadhead)

2004-09-09 11:55:13 AM
Why can't you just say you are a Deadhead instead of 'former'?

ARE you or aren't you?

People who liked the Beatles when they were a group, don't call themselves former Beatles fans today.

2004-09-09 11:55:57 AM
WARRNE HAYNES POWER CORDS!!! MORE POWER CORDS!!! WARREN WE HATE YOU!!! LET PHIL SING!!!! BOBBY STOP FARKING UP THE LYRICS!!!!

Drum circles are one of the worst things that can happen and the more people you get in them the worse it gets.

Not always. It depends on the type of drums, for one thing. Hand drums are the best for a drum circle, I've heard pretty good jams with 15-30 people, when none were using the kind of drums you're supposed to hit with sticks.

2004-09-09 11:56:16 AM
this large-scale beat-fest will probably be more entertaining than the last dead show i saw...

bill wick's friend

that 'some guy' was jimmy herring... definitely no jerry

2004-09-09 11:58:02 AM
...In other news the Grateful Dead has been playing the same song nonstop for over 30 years and still haven't gotten it right.

2004-09-09 11:58:36 AM
Why can't you just say you are a Deadhead instead of 'former'?

I guess because being a deadhead involved going out on long road-trips to see many shows and enjoy the sense of community and fun that followed the band.

No band. No tour. No road trip. No community.

2004-09-09 11:58:51 AM
Warren Haynes plays with the Allman Brothers now. Jimmy Herring with The Dead. Warren don't play no power chords with that slide in his hand either.

2004-09-09 11:58:58 AM
I,m usually pretty lit by 8 on Friday nights. It's probably terrible.Still better than the crap they call classic rock on the radio around here.

2004-09-09 12:01:14 PM
Screw you hippie! Patchouli is not a shower!!!

2004-09-09 12:03:11 PM
Webgrunt, I thought it was generally understood that drum circles didn't use "kind of drums you're supposed to hit with sticks."
Just because it isn't a snare doesn't mean a bunch of selfish soloists playing at the same time is going to sound good.
If you were lucky enough to find some people who could all keep a beat and who waited their turn for the spot light then I am happy for you, but it won't happen again.

2004-09-09 12:11:06 PM
Seems like a lot of work, I would think that the easiest way to get 5,000 to beat it simultaneously was to post a good link.

What spotlight? I've seen drum circles go on for days on end, and nobody ever got a solo in the ones I saw. And I have seen good ones repeatedly, but the people doing them probably practice that kind of drumming fairly regularly.

2004-09-09 12:14:12 PM
You don't just get to play with David Allan Coe, Greg Allman, Dickey Betts, Chuck Leavell, Phil Lesh And Friends, Gov't Mule, John Scofield, John Lee Hooker, Willie Dixon, Albert Collins, Derek Trucks, Phish, the Black Crowes, Medeski, Martin And Wood, and Widespread Panic for being the shiattiest guitar player. FOol.

Beat it simultaneously?

"But my cousin Walter jerked off in public once. True story. He was on a plane to New Mexico when all of the sudden the hydraulics went. The plane started spinning around, going out of control, so he decides it's all over and whips it out and starts beating it right there. So all the other passengers take a cue from him and they start whipping it out and beating like mad. So all the passengers are beating off, plummeting to their certain doom, when all of the sudden, *Snap* the hydraulics kick back in. The plane rights itself and it land safely and everyone puts their pieces or, whatever, you know, away and deboard. No one mentions the phenomenon to anyone else. "

"Well, did he cum, or what? "

"Jesus Christ, man. There's just some things you don't talk about in public."

/got nothin'
