Tell me about it.

Things have been strange on the American Obesity scene over here. I used to weigh 250 lbs on a 5'8" frame.

When I got my own place and started controlling my own diet, I started losing weight.

Profile pic with cat was taken at 210 lbs. I'm 190 now.

When I was 250 lbs, which was about 10 years ago, I couldn't find my size clothes. This is because they didn't MAKE size "2XL" and above.

Now, sheesh. I went to K-Mart a few weeks ago, and I saw size "5XL".
(but that was only on a polo shirt. Somehow, the size ranges on the pants and the undershirts have not changed. Double strange!)

How does the USA win all those olympic medals when there's nothing but fat, lazy people who live there?

Ishidan, how the hell have you been?

been a while since I showed in the #fark irc thing.

Great Enemy of Mister Hand

jpboaty, my mom's medical journal disagrees.

/whatever thats worth

---

Read the snopes link, the sources snopes is listing are
the defacto sources in the medical world:

http://www.snopes.com/toxins/aspartame.asp

Now sure, snopes could be lying... but what are the chances
that MIT, The Lancet, FDA, and others would sue them for
giving quotes attributed to them?

All you Fat-asses need to learn to eat correctly.....maybe boot camp can teach ya...........hey?

2004-09-04 08:19:17 PM
Wow, Fishbulb30w, Ishidan and myself would all be considered "close to fat" in Europe, according to Total Farker Sprotch.

Dieser sind sehr interessant, nicht war?

Ok, I am an average sized disabled woman who is 34 years old...I would like to say how fundamentally weary I am of obese people using handicapped facilities and services and pushing legitimately handicapped people out of the way. I can't farking walk! You can! So, call me a selfish biatch, but really...get the hell out of my way and put down the cookie. If I could become a healthy active person again by changing my diet I would - why won't they?

2004-09-04 08:20:11 PM
It saddens me that some folks are so fat they can't reach their privates or wipe their own ass without using something with a curved 3ft handle.

But it makes me feel better about myself too, so it's a push.

Sorry Sarge, I'm 4F.

2004-09-04 08:24:14 PM
This is not just a US thing, these numbers hold up thruout the western democracys. Obesity is starting to increase in China and other areas of asia as well.

Yet, as bad as it is, please don't turn to sharks to fix your problems. Have you seen what a nine hundred pound flying tiger shark can do to a four hundred pound man?

Trust me, my friend... You don't want to see that.

I thought that was the old draft designation for: Medically unfit for service.

2004-09-04 08:28:21 PM
Imagine sitting on a plane next to 500+ lbs of sweating blubber on a plane or crowded subway. MMH nice!!! Plus they probably have to store their scooters and lifting harnesses in overhead.
Think how much of your medicaid payment goes towards that.

2004-09-04 08:28:56 PM
i might be late in this post but i think since both parents have to work the kids pay....cooking at home has become a weekend hobby, yuppie thing....during the week parents shuffle the kids to soccer etc. and feed them god knows what...

Here's a headline for you: Fark hasn't updated in like, an hour. Here comes the complaining

2004-09-04 08:31:16 PM
Don't need updates, mattloaf. We've got a fatty-flame-war going on.

Fat burns nicely, too, so this ought to keep everybody warm for a while.

sorry....

Could be, not aware of the medical shiat..sorry

2004-09-04 08:31:57 PM
Okay...Gotta chime in here. I am not a doctor, but I am a certified personal trainer. I spent years training people to get their weight under control. There is no easy way to lose weight and keep it off. You won't do it with any diet that I have every read...there are no "magic" foods. If you use more energy than you take in, you will not gain weight. I don't care what "medical condition" you have. Example...I broke my foot training for my last marathon. When I was training, I took in lots of calories. I had to in order to run the miles. When I broke my foot, I cut back on the food. My body no longer required the same amount of energy. When I taught overweight children, I used the analogy of the car. If you don't move your car very often, you don't need very much gas! As for the Diet Soda issue. You really don't see fat people drinking just a diet soda. More often it is a diet soda with a Big Mac. No, they do not cancell each other out. Soda, diet or not, is horrible for you. Drink water.

I call bullshiat on the whole BMI thing. According to it, if I were to lose 100 pounds, I would be in the "Normal" category (albeit the low end). As it is, I am "obese" according to the BMI (I'm 6'1" and 245 lbs). And according to a check I just did, The Rock is "obese".

If I were to lose 100 pounds, everyone I know would think I had become anorexic. Some people are simply built "bigger" than others. That's not an excuse, just a fact. Six foot 1 at 145 lbs might be OK for some body types, just not for me.

I thought that was the old draft designation for: Medically unfit for service.

It is.

And that's what any poor shiat who is trying to enlist if he weighs 300 lbs of flab. will be declared.

Sure, the military has aggressive weight loss programs in boot. But they still know when to say "fark it, do I look like Jenny Craig to you? The old Gunny's Gomer Pyle practically looked svelte compared to you, get out of here."

2004-09-04 08:35:42 PM
If you're muscular, the muscles weigh more, so don't worry
a lot about BMI. A good simple check on being overweight,
is the pinch test.

2004-09-04 08:36:04 PM
The previous post by Genuine is not an excuse for morbid obesity. If you need a tool to wipe your butt, or can't walk up a flight of stairs, or a farking crane to put yourself to bed, you have a problem.

2004-09-04 08:36:54 PM
No offense taken, Sarge. I'm actually kind of happy that the present administration can't draft me. You see, I'd love to serve my country, I just can't take orders from a Commander In Chief, whom I personally believe to be criminally insane. Thus, I couldn't swear the oath in boot camp, because I wouldn't mean what I was saying.

There are way too many of these people zooming around the grocery stores in their little motorized cars buying their big bags of cheezy poofs... for fark's sake - walk a little bit! Doing a little exercise each day and cutting out the junk food goes a long way. I am 6 foot and 175 pounds; if I wasn't careful about how much and what I eat and getting at least a little exercise, I'd gain 25 pounds easy.

2004-09-04 08:40:34 PM
2004-09-04 06:57:44 PM Sprotch

HappyScientist: I understood perfectly, she burns less calories and stores a lot of fat. She needs less food then the average person. Solution: eat less.

Sprotch, I'm sure you're an idiot. If you can only burn a certain percentage of food and store the rest as fat... No matter how little you eat, you will still store some food as fat. Even if she ate so little that her body was starving to death, she would still be storing fat. She would then end up being the fattest person ever to die of starvation. Point is, most people store excess as fat. She stores percentages of fat. It's different. Learn basic math.

Is that what the case really is? I don't know. And yes, the majority are just really lazy.

Also, not all heart conditions are a result of being overweight, and some obesity is a result of not being able to excersize much because of health issues.. while being to poor to afford healthier food.

2004-09-04 08:41:23 PM
I'm 5' tall and 100 lbs even. For my height that's the ideal weight. If I gain any weight and my pants get tight...I lose it right quick. I refuse to buy clothes in a bigger size. Not gonna happen.

Lots of people eat like crap and stay thin, some get fat. I think that the obesity epidemic has come, one of the factors involved are computers. People sit all day (and some all night) in a chair staring at a screen. I think more people are sitting too much and not traipsing around like they should be.

That's so lame. Instead of hiding behind medical problems, stand up for your beliefs. Become a conscientious objector, or go to jail if drafted. That's what I plan to do in the off chance that a draft happens.

WHOAH!

*gets into his Nomex bunker gear, breaks out the marshmallows and strings some beef chunks and vegetables on skewers*

All right, C-Nut...say that again.

Fatties and politics in the same thread, it's flamewar time!

This is what I love. Let's not knock the "Over Eaters" but if you like to drink a few on the weekend...Your are damned to eternity...

WTF?

2004-09-04 08:44:36 PM
Oh God! I just read the article and I was absolutely appalled that its point was that morbidly obese people were "neglected" by manufacturers. Nowhere does it say that being that overweight is gross, or at the very least unhealthy. I am sympathetic to the fact that some people are just not thin and I do believe that genetics has something to do with it, but even a person with "fat genes" has no excuse for being 300, 400 even 500 pounds. I can't believe companies are using the obesity epidemic as a marketing strategy. Maybe if these people went into a furniture store and couldn't find a bet that could handle them, they would realize that there was a problem.

Who pissed in your Wheaties, thornhill?

2004-09-04 08:47:12 PM
Sarge6, what the hell are you talking about?

This isn't Mormons-R-Us...drinking is a way of LIFE around here!

Utter Bastard: been busy. I haven't been in the IRC either, it's sucked there recently.

2004-09-04 08:48:02 PM
Sootsy1, Would you happen to be in the extreme of Northern Michigan?

2004-09-04 08:49:22 PM
thornhill

I know you're just trying to piss me off. Ain't gonna work. I served under my flag, no specific administration. Don't make excuses because you are a fat lazy ass some biatch....

2004-09-04 08:51:51 PM
Thanks again, Sarge6. Enjoyed your input on the smith & wesson thread too.

Have a good night all! I'm going to the fridge for a beer and then play some video games.

2004-09-04 08:53:25 PM
Nope, Fishbulb30w, but I do frequent there often :) Why?

2004-09-04 08:53:48 PM
Ishidan..

I was referring to an earlier thread where they were getting down on the drinkers...

2004-09-04 08:54:15 PM
5'8" 149lbs here...I eat whatever I want and watch a lot of TV. What's my secret? I EXCERCISE! That's right, if you are active and go out and burn calories, you'll be slim and trim...And HEALTHY.

2004-09-04 08:57:08 PM
As far as people in the military go...yeah...jeez, I'm trying to imagine how some of them must feel. Joined up and took the pledge in the "Join for the college money" Clinton days, now get the "Butt-farking Egypt? No, you're in Camel-farking Iraq. Close enough?" Dubya treatment.

(for those that don't know, in the years that we did NOT send all our troops to the Middle East, BFE was shorthand for "The other side of the goddamned world, way the hell Over There")

2004-09-04 08:57:27 PM
do they sell products that prevents skin from fusing with their surfaces?

2004-09-04 08:58:25 PM
Sarge6, there was a thread where they insulted drinkers? Sacrilege...

got a link? This I gotta read.

2004-09-04 09:00:01 PM
Sootsy1 because of your name. I checked your profile and thought I recognized you from being in LaSenorita Resturaunt in the Soo Michigan?

2004-09-04 09:01:03 PM
Too bad they can't produce the one item they really need, a working brain.

2004-09-04 09:03:29 PM
C-Nut: relax a bit :) Anyway comparing size/weight is not sufficient to say whether you are fat or not. You could be all muscles. Oh and I'm South-America now, not Europe.

picturescrazy: you made me laugh.

2004-09-04 09:05:31 PM
stupid fatties.

2004-09-04 09:09:42 PM
Fishbulb30w ahh I see. My favourite cat was named Sootsy, hence the name, the *1* is there because I initiallly signed up as Sootsy but forgot the darn password.

The Soo is one of the few places I haven't traveled to in Michigan. I'd love to go though, it sounds like an interesting trip.

Also if you thought I worked in a restaurant, heh, I tried that one time and totally covered a person in salad. Needless to say I wasn't invited back to work. Golf club members are sooo picky!

2004-09-04 09:09:55 PM
Man, what meanness comes out of these threads...

Guess what. I may be fat, but you meanies are retarded.

And I can lose weight.

2004-09-04 09:11:28 PM
"5"11 135.. the secret is"

being genetically skinny as fark? At that weight/height you've probably got the muscle mass of a twelve year old girl.

2004-09-04 09:19:51 PM
2004-09-04 02:55:08 PM 2dogs

If there is a gene for obesity, why was there no abundance of fat people until recent times?

Because the fatties have been secretly eating the thin people, thus removing the normal thin genes from the pool, and leaving only the fat ones to propogate.
