What are you people doing with your Tivo's? If they want to druge through 500 million hours worth of MY data telling them that I am watching cartoons and campy re-runs, feel free. Its not like my TV viewing habits are some super private thing.

Does not bother me at all that they track what I watch, because they can not associate what I watch with me. Does it bother you that your credit card company tracks what you buy and sells that information to others? Does it bother you that the credit reporting agencies track every line of credit and bad debt you have? Does it bother you that your electronic toll-paying device tracks your driving habits? Does it bother you that your neighbor tracks your daily routine?

Come on, really. Everybody and their brother knows some details about your life, and most of them will never associate that information with you specifically. Who gives a rat's hind end if TiVo monitors what I watch? If it means I receive a coupon in the mail for a free Pepsi because other people in my Zip code seemed to like that commercial, that sounds like a good deal to me.

Stop biatching abour privacy, kids. It's gone, it's been gone for years, and you should be happy that TiVo has promised to NEVER associate viewing information with ANY OTHER personally identifiable information.

alright is it just me or has anyone else noticed that Britney Spears is not nearly attractive as she used to be. She's getting fat and her face looks nasty now, she lost that attractive girl next door look and turned into overweight alcoholic turboslut. Hell even in the picture Rtreynor posted she looks like some porky hippie throwback.

Tivo does not include your name, age or gender in its statistics. It lumps all data collected on viewing habits into a database keyed off of zip code.

So who cares if someone knows that 10 people in zip code 22201 paused the pepsi commercial for greater than 90 seconds.

Of course the same people who will complain about Tivo's collection of this data will be the same ones who complain that the Nielsen ratings never reflect what they watch or the commercials shown never offer anything they are interested in.

The data collected is easily available to anyone with a minor bit of technical know-how. Plus you can ask Tivo to not collect any of this generic information as well.

However, I don't think I would trust UltimateTv since it isn't so open.

Tivo tracking: Non-issue. Everyone likes to get up in arms about it "tracking," but it goes on all the time in every business. A company would negligent if it did not study the buying/viewing/browsing habits of its customers. The whole promise of all this tracking is that someday, you will only have to watch ads about products you are interested in. So far, only Amazon.com is coming close to this with its recommendations.
