Tanks for the info
2002-02-03 11:12:18 AM
Like anyone does anything drunk and stupid in New Orleans.
2002-02-03 11:27:26 AM
The only reason the tanks are there is to keep all those Paul McCartney fans in line.

(Just Kidding. I love Sir Paul !)

How about we start profiling and make sure no arabs enter the game? That will solve 99.9% of all problems.
2002-02-03 11:35:50 AM
But they left the Playmates wide open...

tee hee.
2002-02-03 11:46:11 AM
I just can't figure out what the tanks are there for. What in the hell do you expect to do with a tank if someone attacks or uses a bomb? Tanks can't shoot down planes, are too slow to chase cars, and I can't imagine them opening fire in the downtown area.

Still, I figure that will scare the fark out of anyone when they see it, and maybe that's all it's there for.

BTW, my first link! On my first attempt too! Woohoo!<br>

"everyone entering the dome must prepare to clear a series of hurdles, including metal detectors and possible 'pat downs'."

Do they mean Patriot first downs?

You know, I gotta wonder when all this security is gonna stop getting so much attention.

"Gee, they have tons of security at the Superbowl?" Well, no shiat.

Every major event is gonna have major security - no one wants a terrorists act to kill people at their event, and I'm sure their insurers are requiring some serious measures to shield them from lawsuits if something does happen.

Can we just take that as a given from now on, and focus news stories on more important matters? Like those playmates at halftime.
2002-02-03 11:57:40 AM
It's not so imtimidating when you see who's manning the tanks:

I'd love to see one of those tanks pivot steer on Britney "bone chugger" Spears.
2002-02-03 12:21:41 PM
I was thinking...what if a Talibaner just decided to power up his little bi-plane, and soar over the stadium with a nerve gas bomb? What would stop him? There's got to be a thousand ways that a terrorist could kill the majority of people in the stadium....
2002-02-03 12:29:09 PM
what the fvck do you need tanks for?
2002-02-03 12:31:54 PM
You'll poke your eye out kid.

2002-02-03 12:35:39 PM
no, the only way you're going to kill a lot of people is with a nuclear device, and even then it won't be as bad as you'd guess. The best that a non-nationstate could do is about 1 kiloton (1000lbs of TNT).

although the best place to do it, aside from a major gathering of world leaders, is the superbowl
2002-02-03 12:43:38 PM
Wouldn't it be safer to watch the darn thing on TV?
2002-02-03 12:49:54 PM
I disagree Big Dave, with a small device like a weather balloon (or hell, even some radio controlled planes), you could release a pretty large volume of choking agent like phosgene or chlorine gas over a stadium. They're relatively persistent, so you'd preobably nail quite a few people before everyone evacuated.
2002-02-03 12:54:07 PM
Outlaw foam fingers, and only outlaws will have foam fingers!

Seriously ... foam fingers? How hard is it to check a foam finger?
2002-02-03 12:54:49 PM
Incidentally, I give this Farkticle one foam finger up.
2002-02-03 01:02:57 PM
Umm, Dave, check yer figures.

A kiloton is one thousand tons. But a kiloton has been standardaized to mean 10^12 calories.

If you can't take giant foam fingers, jumbo purses, backpacks, coolers, etc. to the Superbowl, then the terrorists have already figured out a way to increase stadium concession sales.

The first one is always easy. That's how they hook ya. hehehe
2002-02-03 01:08:00 PM
[sorry, hangover. here's my comment]:

Big Dave--

One kiloton is equivalent to 1000 TONS of TNT, not 1000 pounds.

1 Kiloton = 80,000 crispy critters
2002-02-03 01:27:44 PM
with the secret service as the watch dogs....don't you guys think they have the air space around Orleans pretty well covered ?? DUH
2002-02-03 01:37:01 PM
Vegas, but what could they do about, say, a remote controlled plane? If you're good enough with the controls, you should be able to avoid attempts to shoot it down. How big of a perimeter are they going to establish here? I think it's doable. Just strap a couple canisters of phosgene to the bottom, and some sort of radio-controlled detonator. Boom.

I hope the FBI isn't watching this thread.
2002-02-03 01:41:53 PM
I'm sure The Man is taking a great interest in your imaginative plots, Deus.

Please tell us more. How else would you go about committing mass murder?
2002-02-03 01:49:41 PM
Deus: I hope the FBI isn't watching this thread.

Considering how many keywords we've hit, I expect somebody has at least glanced at it.

Of course, we may have been spotted already: some FBI agents might surf while on long stake-outs.
2002-02-03 01:50:52 PM
I've got a howitzer in my pants
2002-02-03 01:57:42 PM
Well Tucci, first I'd stake out the sweep patterns of the guards at the Sup-

*gets carried away by men in black suits*
2002-02-03 02:01:41 PM
Well, the Secret Service has monitored Fark before. Someone got a visit a few months back from them for something he said here. Of course, if they are still watching Fark, it's for the same reasons we do.
2002-02-03 02:02:47 PM
"what if a Talibaner just decided to power up his little bi-plane, and soar over the stadium with a nerve gas bomb? What would stop him?"

Um, the dome.
2002-02-03 02:21:34 PM
wow I can't beleive I didn't catch the lbs vs tons thing!

I read this article last night and it seems to jive with what I've been hearing on the news, maybe check it out, it's interesting:
2002-02-03 02:22:12 PM
Yeah, the giant concrete dome MIGHT have a deterent. However, were someone to crash into the dome with enough explosives, chances are, it would collapse, and kill most of the football players. Darn.
2002-02-03 03:04:34 PM
I can't farking believe they're banning CELL PHONES of all things. Do they realize that the type of person who could afford a decent ticket to the actual Superbowl event is the same type of person who regularly carries a cell phone around with them?

This is such a clusterfark.
2002-02-03 04:15:24 PM
Watch out for the blimp.
2002-02-03 04:21:53 PM
I thought the Blimp was banned because it could block out the sun and thus give terrorists a chance to sneak into the area under cover of darkness?
2002-02-03 04:38:45 PM
i dunno if anyone said thisyet...but the superbowl is in a dome...meaning no gas can be dropped in it...unles you meant the crowd outside...
2002-02-03 05:36:34 PM
the referres are the only terrorists in New Orleans today.
2002-02-03 05:37:15 PM
referees, I mean referees.
2002-02-03 06:33:51 PM
I may be an American, and football may be a very American thing, but I would not feel bad if a bunch of assholes that would spend hundreds of dollars to watch a footbal game got blown up. Sorry, just my opinion. I hope they all die.
2002-02-03 06:59:52 PM
the article didn't mention the fighter jets circling the city. noisy thangs.
2002-02-03 07:24:23 PM
Thank-you, Target-in-chief errrrrr Bush, for reminding us that this is the "Land of the Free." I was distracted by all the farking tanks and agents with stinger missles.

Security paranoia.

I can't wait for 2004.....if the economy still sucks, it will be a fine chance to throw Hitler junior out on his arse. Like father like son I hope.

Then maybe we can get someone in there who won't strip away our freedoms for the illusion of safety.
2002-02-03 11:35:47 PM
Man... TANKS? WTF? What are they thinking? That suddenly, and for no apparent reason, Taliban militia fighters are going to appear out of no where and try to invade the Superdome?

Seriously... I can understand the importance of security, but tanks are pretty damned useless, even more so in a city type environment. And multiply that uselessness by 2 when dealing with terrorists who show a FLAGRANT disregard for tradition by not attacking with tanks, or vehicles that tanks can blow up.
2002-02-04 02:45:57 AM
Well apparently if Mike had walked in there and let go a big fart then all hell would'a broke loose.
