Damn you, Massachusetts Supreme Court!!!

desolationrow: stop typing, hop a plane to Africa, and start making some marriage arrangements.

Have either the grooms or brides side thought that now that he's SHOT HIS PREGNANT FIANCE her final wishes might not be to get married to him in the afterlife? I don't know about you but I'd think twice about marrying my daughter to the man who killed her. Call me crazy.

Hrmm, making a contract to share property and should we go about this.....let's see...hrmm.... I dont really know what to do, better consult the necronomicon.

Shalom your full of shiat - if this was a story about Norwegians it would be even more amusing - your just a bitter biggot.

"This does not mean the relationship has irretrievably broken down."

Man that's what I call optimism!
2004-08-28 01:35:43 PM
sounds like the families have gone coocoo for cocoa puffs...

and what's the point of a wedding if they don't say "i do"? didn't these people ever watch the princess bride?
2004-08-28 01:48:01 PM
You'd assume "The wedding's off." is understood after a murder suicide. Oh well. Que sera sera.

I'm sorry. I don't see the beautiful resolution to an ugly scenario, I see only denial of the sordid truth. Whatever peace this brings to their survivors is ephemeral.

While it's nice to hear a different point of view, I feel obligated to point out that this situation has precisely ZERO in common with Romeo and Juliet.
2004-08-28 02:19:05 PM
Well, I guess they have the "forever hold your peace" part down. It's going to be the long uncomfortable silence after "Do you take him to be your lawfully wedded husband" I'd be worried about.

/back away slooooooowlly..don't make eye contact....
2004-08-28 02:47:18 PM
Are they going to get a ventriliquist to say "I do"?

Speak now or forever hold your peace. How true.
2004-08-28 02:50:04 PM
Let's just hope the relatives don't try to consummate the wedding.

It's almost like the story of Romeo and Juliet, only they made it work. Very Shakesperian."

ah yes, of course: "Romeo and Juliet: Killing Spree Edition"

anyways desolationrow if the couple had been in the same car in a bad crash and were supposed to be married, this would be sort of romantic...but he murdered her. that kind of sucks away all the romance of the situation.

A bit late, really.

I'mprobably on an empty thread now, but oh well. There's 2 ways to see the story, a murder-suicide, and a group of people coping the best way they know, buy continuing the love instead of hating members of the othe family. If you can't see any comparisons between Shakespeare in the sense of the two families, the murder of one member by the other family, and in the end, realizing that the dead can't be brought back by hatred, then I guess it was all in my head. I continue to find remarkable what the family members did, and while most people are focusing on the three dead people, which is tragic,I was focusing on the ones who are alive, and let the dead bury the dead.

Insert joke here about wife being a dead lay.
2004-08-29 06:39:59 AM
That's cool but I wonder how the divorce will play out?
2004-08-29 03:50:57 PM
May they live a long and happy life together and God bless them.
2004-08-29 05:14:29 PM

Yes, it's like Romeo & Juliet, if Juliet was pregnant and Romeo shot her in the face, before shooting himself, not because he couldn't live without her, but from the guilt of having shot his wife in the face, and KILLING her with his own hands.

Moreso, even if you want to say that it's a beautiful thing that the families are coping and not killing each other, it doesn't necessarily mean marrying them posthumously is the way to solve that. If my future brother-in-law shot my sister, I wouldn't blame his parents or family, but I think it would be insane to MARRY them in death. MORESO, marriage is a rite (religious or not) that the couple performs unto themselves. You can't get married if you aren't alive to agree to get married.

To best quote this guy:

"If you didn't say it, you didn't do it."
