Hmmm..... is going into battle with a shiny red band on your wrist really a good idea?
2002-02-02 08:46:57 AM
Personally I'd prefer something other then a bracelet for guys. Maybe patriot boobies. For ever

How does selling an idea you have == good for the world? It's nice, but you're still making a profit...
2002-02-02 09:02:30 AM
2002-02-02 09:04:08 AM
Money good
2002-02-02 09:04:50 AM
wow. you making $$ on the deaths of thousands world-wide. COOL!
2002-02-02 09:15:53 AM
Hey, all you nay-sayers: shut the fark up. It's more than you're doing. As a member of Uncle Sam's Fighting Forces, I'm grateful when I get something free just for wearing the green. Kudos to these two guys: you rock.

The rest of you: suck my BDU-wearing ass.
2002-02-02 09:18:11 AM
Thuglife, their living or dying has nothing to do with whether or not they give money.

First off, they're GIVING bracelets away to them. Nice thing in the first place.

And they aren't profiting off war or death. They're profiting over helping boost morale and giving the soldiers something to remember their families or America by.

Seeing as how they only sold 600 of the bracelets, and apparently aren't in it for the money (although, hey, money's great and all), I'll um, do whatever it is you do to honor those type of people.

*does whatever it is you do to honor those type of people*

'Scuse me for butting in to this bash session, but I think I ought to remind you that this is AMERICA. A CAPITALIST DEMOCRACY. As in "money is what makes it run". Personally I think that this guy is doing something cool to show the guys who are doing the actual fighting that they are being thought of. I think that is far more meaningfully positive than flying your flag on the top of your car, which only goes to show your patriotism to the rest of us here at home, and is not much consolation to the people who are actually dodging bullets. And as far as it being a lame idea, I will tell you the same thing I tell the complainers in the PS sure as hell isn't as lame as doing nothing at all.
2002-02-02 09:20:50 AM
Put it this way.

They give all the money they earn to some WTC foundation, because making money is obviously an American fallacy (go communism, yay red) then go broke and can't make any more of the bracelets.

Yeah, somebody stick a HERO tag for that one.
2002-02-02 09:24:58 AM
...or they could just not make this crap in the first place. how is this benefiting anyone, except finacially?

ps- the reasont they "give" a bracelet away is because the person in the states is really paying for two.
2002-02-02 09:26:55 AM
oh and bisifinti: how many people would be buying these if a lot of people didn't die, and a war hadn't started consequently?

Gives people a sense of patriotism, gives you a way to show you love your country and such.

Plus, the whole country wasn't all about patriotism and "United We Stand" before 9/11. Yeah, it was important, but it wasn't a pressing-issue type thing.

I dunno how you guys can't just see it as a nice thing where everybody benefits, smile for a second, and keep walking. There's no injustice being done.
2002-02-02 09:34:43 AM
Aren't Americans a tad bit over-patriotic already?
2002-02-02 09:37:40 AM
Thuglife, what exactly do YOU do to keep our armed forces' morale up? Sit here and biatch? Yeah, now I'm farking ITCHING to fight for your freedom. People like you really make me question whether or not this country is worth defending.

Ungrateful piece of shiat.
2002-02-02 09:38:28 AM
I believe by "Hell freezes Over" they meant "Temperature in Hell drops slightly below the Value of the Canadian Dollar."
2002-02-02 09:41:12 AM
I bet these "Patriotism sucks" people are all sitting in their basements with tin-foil hats as they use their computer. There's GOTTA be a conspiracy here, with all them radioactive waves comin' outta that there processor...
2002-02-02 09:44:18 AM

Where do I order one of THOSE ?
2002-02-02 09:45:14 AM
Movie quote time:

I have neither the time nor patience to deal with a man who rises and sleeps under the very blanket of the freedom I protect, and then questions the manner in which I provide it! I would much rather you just said thanks, and went on your way. Otherwise, pick up a gun and stand a post. Either way, I don't give a DAMN what you think you're entitled to!

Did you order the code red?

I did the job you sent me to-

2002-02-02 09:59:06 AM
"We thought: Let's just go for it," Logan said. "If someone's sacrificing their life for me, I can sacrificing a little time and money."

So he and Ridley did a quick search for a manufacturer to whip up the aluminum bangles. In a short time, they were in business, garnering serious interest from patriotic-minded customers. The main intent, Ridley said, was to remind shoppers of the importance of those in the armed forces following Sept. 11

They are sacrificing money?
Remind shoppers?
2002-02-02 10:38:45 AM
Hey Deus: Thanks.
2002-02-02 10:42:59 AM
Deus: I ordinarily would be on your side, but I'm tired of your whining. I keep your "morale" up by paying the taxes that fund your salary. I am proud of the job that you do, but don't forget that it is just that: a job. You can quit any time (sorta). I'm not sure which recruiter told you that when you enlist, you will recieve blowjobs from the general populace, but they lied to you. Again, I love our country and I'm proud to honor you for doing your job, but don't fish for compliments because you show up to work everyday and do what you're told. Thuglife is razzing the dudes who make the bracelets... let him enjoy the freedom to do so that you so vehemently claim you're defending for him. If he can't enjoy it, then why fight for it in the first place?
2002-02-02 10:44:05 AM
Having said all of that, I too offer thanks.
2002-02-02 10:58:17 AM
War is good for business. Even the cheap & tawdry bangle business.
2002-02-02 11:00:18 AM
Cotb, he also fought for his own freedom to speak out against people like Thuglife =p
2002-02-02 11:03:10 AM
Er, wait... so yeah that's right... so then I must fight for -no- wait...
I understand your point, but he's contradicting himself if he claims to be defending others rights and then tells them to shut up (in a matter of speaking). If he were just disagreeing then that would be one thing... I'm not telling not to speak out, I'm just sayin'...
2002-02-02 11:08:28 AM
I've worn the uni for 12 years now active duty, and it's a nice thought, but I wouldn't wear one of those, and wouldn't have wanted it in the past while deployed overseas.
Please folks, send porn food and tobacco, that's what we want.
Actually, I don't shoot other people for you to send me free shiat, I don't care how much support I get, I fight for my family, and my fellow soldiers.
Although the porn and dip is still a big help.
2002-02-02 11:10:07 AM
This is good and all, but Bob Logan produces reality shows, which knocks him back down the scale a few notches.
2002-02-02 11:14:27 AM
Hmmm, I see your point Cotb. I guess one of the freedoms I defend is the right to be a total farkface. That'd be Thuglife, not you. Still, it chaps my ass when the people who stand up to defend that right get shiat on. Because you know the farkfaces aren't going to defend it themselves...they just biatch about how no one ELSE defends it.
2002-02-02 11:15:54 AM
Thanks man. Thanks to you and all who wear BDU's, eat MRE's, go through training that would scare a pro athlete, leave your families behind, live and work in an environment where the UCMJ supercedes the Constitution and all for less pay than your civilian counterparts.

I was a Navy brat and enlisted in the Army after high school. I never re-upped, but sometimes wish I had. The people who whine about their personal freedoms should try a stint in the military to see how you guys lose a lot of personal freedoms in order to protect what so many take for granted.

It seems to me that the ones who whine the most about the military are the ones who never would have had the intestinal fortitude to make it through the first hour of basic training.

BTW- For those who've never experienced it, basic training is when you are stripped of all your God given rights and hope to earn them back as priveleges.
2002-02-02 11:22:57 AM
Yay, another example of blind patriotism, just like the Nazis!
2002-02-02 11:23:48 AM
bisifiniti.. i think youre having a different conversation over there. my point, as cotb (thanks) said, is that i think the businessman aspect of it is sick. however it effects armed forces is incidentel. let me just say, though, that you don't chose your citizenship. what makes you think your view is more important than mine?
2002-02-02 11:24:56 AM
The Nazis also ate food... that means... the only way we can avoid becoming an evil, fascist state is to all die of starvation!
2002-02-02 11:29:04 AM
One of the big differences is, is that his job has a whole lot more potential for getting killed/maimed/hurt. And what do you do? Bring corned-beef to the world? Yes, we appreciate the corned-beef, but you aren't going through any great length to bring us that flavor we've known since 1863.

Thuglife, the point is, the world could live without corned-beef. But when bombs start tearing YOUR neighborhood apart, who the hell do you think's going to stop it?
2002-02-02 11:29:21 AM
cough cough
2002-02-02 11:32:09 AM
What the hell are you talking about Bisifiniti? Are you drunk? Are you posting to the right thread?
2002-02-02 11:33:42 AM
Deus: you seem to be a total prick. if you reread my original post, maybe you'll see that what i have against it is how 3000 americans die in new york turns into a business adventure. if that's not patriotism, then what is?
2002-02-02 11:34:54 AM
bisifiniti: i dont think it's going to be a businessman hawking bracelets
2002-02-02 11:35:03 AM
Catfish, you are damned right. Damn near everyone of my "god given rights" is now considered a privelidge. And yeah, most people that biatch wouldn't set foot near a recruiting office.

Thanks man
2002-02-02 11:36:43 AM

These guys are doing something good for the servicemen and women, and if they make a buck on the side, good for them. They're supporting the military, and practicing the principle of our country: capitalism.

These guys rock. You do not.
2002-02-02 11:37:07 AM
Yo whiners! We're the ones who are perpetrating this evil on the planet.

First - our thanks to all the navy brats, BUD-wearing grunts, aviators and anyone else who take poverty wages to go put their arse on the line in defense of the country.

Second - for the whiners, naysayers, complaining fark'ers and other malcontents - the reporter who wrote the article told me later that when he interviewed people who had ordered the bracelets, some were so touched by the thought that they were literally crying. Anyone who wants to bash this should take a run through my inbox full of emails from servicemen and women who are happy just to know that someone still remembers them, among all the noise about the WTC.

Please remember, 100,000 kids are away from home, family, kids, everything - working their a$ses off in bad conditions - for you.

Will we make a profit from this? Perhaps. It certainly won't be my retirement fund. We give away far more of these than we sell. The shortfall has to come from somewhere - and that's from other businesses, or from our own pockets.
2002-02-02 11:44:25 AM
Well said.
2002-02-02 11:59:48 AM
Oops - I meant "BDU."

Back to my coffee.

Fark reader does something good for the world. Hell freezes over.

I thought it seemed a little colder today.

I like Drew's classic comment best.
"Many come to the party, few bring beer or pizza."

Good job.
2002-02-02 12:51:24 PM
I praise all people in uniform that are willing to go out and possibly die for me and mine.
And sadman#9 - Americans may be very patriotic, but at least they can muster the balls to go out and kick ass.

Dues: How do I get that picture in your profile for my desktop?

And thanks, btw.
2002-02-02 02:00:33 PM
Are Americans too patriotic ?
Yeah, right.
We need to be in this mindset, FARKers. I have a feeling that this war will be a long one. So we must keep our morale and spirits up to support our American troops who are risking their lives to keep this country safe for us and our families/friends.
All the people badmouthing this idea I propose you come up with something as well received as this obviously is. When you do, then open your crap spouting pie hole. Until then, STFU already.
