Long, but interesting and worth the read.

He's careful to draw this distinction: "I'm not as passionate about being a Democrat as I am about opposing Bush. Facetiously, I would be ready to become a moderate Republican after Bush is defeated. What we need most of all in this country is to recapture the Republican Party from the extreme right wing."

In the same way he speculated on financial markets, Soros has bet on societies, spending billions to undercut communist regimes and promote democracy.

This guy is a true conservative's wet dream. However, I am personally enamored of him for his accurate understanding of the Bush cabal.

"By virtue of him being one of the largest donors in presidential campaign history, he has purchased the Democratic Party," said Yier Shi of the Republican National Committee.

Wait, you mean it takes just 13 million to a 527 to buy the Democratic party from the feminists, teachers unions, hippies and socialists? ;)

How much does it cost to acquire the GOP from big oil, the NRA and the Christian Coalition? 15 million? ;)

2004-08-25 12:08:28 PM
"The concept of open society is based on the recognition that nobody is in possession of the ultimate truth," Soros explained. "Those who think they do have to impose their will on the people by force or by repression."
...
"In other words, after Sept. 11, Bush declared that it's unpatriotic to criticize him. The Democrats and everybody else subscribed to that, accepted it. So for about 18 months, the critical process was suspended, and because of that suspension Bush could get us into the invasion of Iraq on false pretenses because the political process was suspended."

Finally, someone makes some sense.

This is really old news

This man is trying to buy a US Presidential election. No matter who you root for, you should be wary of the motivations that drive George Soros. What is the "Open Society" he wishes to thrust upon the globe.

This is man who has seen the face of evil during his teenage years and lived thru it.

He made a fortune in predicting global market fluctuations.

He doesn't like the Bush Administration.

Needs a Hero tag!

This article, by conservative columnist Charley Reese, and written for the website of Lew Rockwell, notable libertarian and founder of the Mises institute says it best.

My Opinion:

2004-08-25 12:39:00 PM
Since Kerry is demanding that Bush denounce the SBV ads (which he did) why won't Kerry come out and condemn the ads that this man funds?

/oh wait...silly me. Kerry is a democrat therefore it's different.

2004-08-25 12:39:19 PM
I like how the Bushistas insist on calling him a "Marxist." He's a bigger capitalist than any of them have ever been!

2004-08-25 12:39:27 PM
let me one of the first to say that George Soros is major league hypocritical a-hole. DNC meet your new overlord.

2004-08-25 12:39:52 PM
Wacko Republicans hate Soros with a frenzied, unthinking hatred -- which means he's probably a good guy.

2004-08-25 12:39:57 PM
and this is news worthy because??? yes everyone knows that george soros funds moveon.org and wnats bush out. even billionaires can be idiots.

2004-08-25 12:41:08 PM

Another good quote:

"In 1992, Soros decided the value of the British pound was headed for a fall. He bet $10-billion on that calculation. In a single day, he pocketed more than $1-billion. He was dubbed "the man who broke the Bank of England.""

Jeebus, I really never heard of this guy until this year. Is it the same for other Farkers ? Is he even richer than Bill Gates ?

2004-08-25 12:41:19 PM
Adam Smith? You gotta be kidding me.

One thing I know: Kerry was in Vietnam, Bush wasn't.

It doesn't matter a whit what the Smear Boat guys say.

2004-08-25 12:41:59 PM
Here is a guy that can really put to work the view of many moderate intellectuals that Bush is the de facto modern oppressor. Many of those same intellectuals do not like Kerry for being a weener, but really, who do you want in office? Bush is a dangerous person to have in office. Too controlling and he doesn't really care about the common people.

2004-08-25 12:42:07 PM
"To interpret it that our military power gives us the right to impose our will on the world is a false interpretation," he said last week.

After saying that, Soros went back to continue work on his campaign to use his economic power to impose his will on the world.

2004-08-25 12:43:21 PM
I place the blame squarely on BUSH!!!!

2004-08-25 12:44:00 PM
What a waste of money. even if wins the election again hes going to be gone in 4 years. this has been in the news for the last year.

2004-08-25 12:44:46 PM
"It's a threat to open society - not only because of the threat to civil liberties but mainly because of the suppression of the political process, which is essential to democracy," he said.

Suppression of the political process??? Mr. Soros name ONE just ONE person who opposes Bush who has been arrested & convicted for opposing Bush.

"In other words, after Sept. 11, Bush declared that it's unpatriotic to criticize him."

Love to see a link for that quote from the President.

"The Democrats and everybody else subscribed to that, accepted it. So for about 18 months, the critical process was suspended, and because of that suspension Bush could get us into the invasion of Iraq on false pretenses because the political process was suspended."

Critical process suspended? So for 18 months not one democrat spoke out against the President's actions? False pretenses? Keep pounding that drum George, it is working so well.

Not attacking you, but when did bush come out against the SBV?

2004-08-25 12:46:44 PM
Let's see:

John McCain: black love child, wife wacked out on meds
John Kerry, Max Clelland: Unpatriotic

now

George Soros, who spent billions to undermine communisim and spread democracy: leftist satanic wacko

Man, it must be nice to be a Republican and have the party write history for you...

Ok, for seriously, If I was that rich, I doubt I would give a damn about any political figure.

I would have a harem and a ranch dressing hose.

My projects would be making a cool robot army and round the world cruises with 100's of strippers.

And? George Soros is old news. He's been doing this for ages. He's also remarkably narrow-minded for someone who survived Nazi Germany:

"I'm not as passionate about being a Democrat as I am about opposing Bush. Facetiously, I would be ready to become a moderate Republican after Bush is defeated. What we need most of all in this country is to recapture the Republican Party from the extreme right wing."

A good example of how blind adherence to one side can lead you in the wrong direction. He needs to be looking a little closer to home if he's concerned about political extremists, suppression of civil liberties, and dictatorial government.

But that article is interesting because it presents a more balanced view of Soros than I'm accustomed to seeing. Usually he's shown as either a socialist saint or Evil Incarnate, when he is neither. I think he is genuinely concerned about human liberty and American freedoms. But he's a fool if he believes Bush to be the biggest threat to that.

That Prescott Bush was providing the finances for(IG Farben).

Hmm, the number of words in quotations within someone else's opening sentence results in a very suspicious article.

2004-08-25 12:50:41 PM
"By virtue of him being one of the largest donors in presidential campaign history, he has purchased the Democratic Party," said Yier Shi of the Republican National Committee.

Well, he couldn't buy the Republicans. They were sold ages ago.

Jeebus, I really never heard of this guy until this year. Is it the same for other Farkers ? Is he even richer than Bill Gates ?

Soros is well known in financial and globalization circles, but I hadn't heard of him until I moved to D.C. a couple of years ago -- he's stayed out of the political scene until this election. The NY Times had a great article on him, but it's probably archived now. If you want to read a copy, let me know.

2004-08-25 12:52:04 PM
soros - independent billionaire/humanitarian

SBV - funded by republican interest/shady

2004-08-25 12:52:07 PM
It's his money, he has the right to do whatever he wishes with it.

Why is it wrong for a rich man to buy ads against Bush, when it's apparently right for a rich man to buy ads against Kerry?

2004-08-25 12:52:42 PM
Nice article, it puts some history with the name.

He's got experience at encouraging Democracy, and sees that Bush is going about it backwards.

"Hang On Voltaire
Not attacking you, but when did bush come out against the SBV?"

No prob snowburnt. If you watch/listen to the big media they completely ignored it and instead focused on how unfair all these attacks on John Kerry are. From the NY Times (link is a reprint in the Cape Cod Times)

"On Monday, Bush, when asked by reporters at his Texas ranch about the anti-Kerry advertisements, said that he wanted to stop "all of them."
"That means that ad, every other ad," he said."

I swear some people would follow the prince of darkness into an unprovoked landwar in asia if he was backed by the party of their parents.

For the love of god, get some perspective, break this "father as hero" BS of the conservative nuclear family and understand that issues are complex and sometimes politicians who know shiat from shinola might speak over your head. Don't be afraid to grow up.
