Two men were seen leaving the scene despite the victim's loud cries for help.

Damn, I was just about to submit this with a better headline too.

"I Scream, you Scream, somebody stole The Scream"

Look for it on eBay!

Citizens are urged to keep their ears open for the painting.

2004-08-22 09:03:17 AM
If it was unprotected why did they need guns?

2004-08-22 09:04:32 AM
We don't have all the details on the situation, but we are searching for the suspects in the air and on land," Police Spokesman Kjell Moerk told the public radio network NRK.

Better hope they don't have a boat!

"What's strange is that in this museum, there weren't any means of protection for the paintings, no alarm bell," Castang told France Inter radio."

"The paintings were simply attached by wire to the walls," he said. "All you had to do is pull on the painting hard for the cord to break loose which is what I saw one of the thieves doing."

Civilization.

No fear, no threat, just peace.

2004-08-22 09:11:49 AM
According to the museum staff there was a silent alarm.

This article was submitted with about two dozen funnier headlines.

Sigh... such a goldmine.

The thieves could have at least shown a sense of humor by wearing "Scream" masks.

2004-08-22 09:29:15 AM
I got it.

I wonder what the motivation would be?

It's not like they COULD just go out and sell it on eBay. I mean, I'm sure it's happened in the past, but I'm sure has often ended up in jailarity. I wouldn't think an art collector would be interested in paying much money for a work of art that would get them tossed in jail if they were caught with it.

They could try the ransom thing again, but that ends up in jailarity a lot too. Granted it could go a lot further than the old 'leave $1 million by the tree at midnight if you want to see your painting again', where it can go into a bank account and bounce through multiple countries in a matter of minutes. Still, it has a good chance of failure.

In a way, I kind of admire their chutzpah, but OTOH, it's kind of a dumb crime. It's probably a 'smarter' crime to steal spinner rims or laptops where you can fence them a lot easier.

/Not that I'm condoning theft. However, I've seen $500 cars with alarms on them before.

2004-08-22 09:36:24 AM
They'll get it back.
This is munch ado about nothing.

2004-08-22 09:47:39 AM
Clearly the same people who snatched Drew's gnome. Everyone knows there's an international crime ring that's bent on stealing Fark's icons and cliches.

2004-08-22 09:54:45 AM
No wonder it's screaming

Sweet a heist! Everyone loves a heist! huh, huh, or is that just me and my delusions that can't seperate movies from real life?

Lets see, the criminals had guns, but nobody else did.

hmm...

2004-08-22 10:17:56 AM
Stolen in Norway? Norfolk and Waypal (when you need it absolutely, postively overnight by train)

/help, I've gotten lost in a Bob and Tom tangent

with obligatory Scream image

2004-08-22 10:18:10 AM
Arrgh! The last time it was stolen, the thieves left a note saying "Thanks for the poor security" (translated). You would think after that, they'd HAVE SOME DECENT FARKING SECURITY! But noo, they have a single guard, with the painting attached to the wall with a single wire. Numbskulls. I tell ya, if this thing ever gets recovered, I'll go steal it myself.

2004-08-22 10:26:29 AM
look its on ebay already! For 99 cents!

It was The Good Humor Man!

That painting gets stolen so much it's annoying. Hopefully it stays stolen this time.

2004-08-22 10:36:30 AM
I realize that this thread is so old, this message will probably not be read by anyone. But for the sake of my mind, I'd like to say this.

This painting is deeply important to me. I'm unsure if words could describe the impact it's had on my life, both directly and indirectly. If they could, they'd take up more space than any Farker would be willing to sift.

I honestly hope this ends without incident. It would be a terrible loss to everyone living, and people not even born yet, if this were destroyed.

2004-08-22 10:38:59 AM
I hope it dosen't get damaged .....I think a private collector must have wanted it .......theres no way these guys could sell it .......sigh well lets just hope its recovered safley and unscathed and not lost or destroyed

2004-08-22 10:39:08 AM
How do oyu make money for this? SO you sell it to a super-rich art colector. Eventually, someones going to come along and say "hey, that's The Scream, that's a stolen peice of artwork" and you'll get in trouble. I dont get it.

In other news, I'm still drunk and I met a fellow farker last night. DOnt know his name or anything but he was cool.

2004-08-22 10:41:19 AM
Are they going to behead it in a video?

2004-08-22 10:42:19 AM
Pshh. I think we all know where it is.

/just made this for a photoshop contest that'll probably never see the light of day anyway

Was it pimped out with a $5,000 audio system with dvd player?

Too bad they couldn't steal every stupid reuse of the image.

2004-08-22 11:12:50 AM
Yet when I was in Oslo and went to the museum to see the painting I had 3 guards yell at me for taking a picture of the painting with my camera flash on.

bastards.

2004-08-22 11:13:37 AM
This was a different version, stolen from a different museum. This one had an alarm that apparently didn't work, and some guards who apparently couldn't stop the robbers, and some old ladies serving coffee. So this was way harder to steal than the other one.

2004-08-22 11:15:57 AM
I found it! It was in a college dorm room!

2004-08-22 11:18:43 AM
Ah, another medical colleague. Glad to hear the news.

Bastards? More like, very stupid of you. The flashes damage the painting. All museums ban flash photography.

No, it was a 15 year old Chevy Caprice that was a 'Pimp My Ride" candidate. It had no paint job, and I think one working speaker. It was a friend's car in college, and it had been stolen many times. It was one of those cars you could break the steering column and start with a screwdriver.

Of course, the alarm for it was one of the old GM factory ones with the round key that you put in the front quarterpanel.
