1. head to el submarino on the other side of the downtown bridge in El Paso. The el submarino is the Juarez establishment with 25 cent tequila shots and girls that make the suckie suckie sound at the main bar. real charmers.

2. after wash rinsing and repeating many coronas and tequila shots, stagger to Fred's and buy a Fred's sandwich. Ham w/hard white cheese, a smear of avocado and some mayo or mustard on a hard as a brick but melt in your mouth bagette. That, my friends, is the best sandwich known to mankind. At least I thought it was at the time.

Man! That sandwich sounds awesome. Makes me hungry for some good ol' Primanti's from back home.

-'talian bread

It's from tha 'burgh, and it's heartstoppingly delicious.

Chicken Fat Cat or a Fat biatch are better imo.

Mmmm grease trucks

Mother's Ferdie Special (Nawlins) puts 'em all to shame:
a po'boy with baked ham and debris (roast beef pieces that fall in the gravy while cooking), shredded cabbage, pickles and mustard. The most addictive sandwich ever.

But I will have to try the Tujanes crab sammich some time.

My roommate used to work at Mural Lounge, our on-campus fast food place back in college. One night he invented a sandwich that sustained us through some lean financial times: the chicken-bacon-egg-and-cheese, which was a deep-fried chicken patty garnished with a fried egg and lots of bacon, along with plenty of tabasco sauce. Maybe not as "grand" as the Fat Darrell, but still, the memories...
2004-08-19 11:09:56 AM
Anyone have a list of what these sandwiches are and such? I'd be curious to see them all and maybe make some of my own (I live way to far away from jersey to go buy some).

Seriously, one of you rutgerites should swipe a menu and post it online for us (or just email it to me)
2004-08-19 11:10:25 AM
meh. give me a sammich from P.D. Johnson's Dog Day Deli in Dallas any day of the week. I eat their damn sammiches at least 3 times a week.
2004-08-19 11:13:20 AM
i live 5 minutes from the grease trucks and still havent been there. wanting to go, i guess i havent been drunk enough and in the area at the same time.
2004-08-19 11:22:34 AM
You suck, Toasted_Ghost. Just thinking about a soft shelled crab sandwich makes me drool faster than Pavlov's dogs. Thanks. Just thanks.

You used to be able to special order this at Broadway Pizza in New Haven:

Eggplant Parmesan Grinder with pepperoni.

Really good combo. Maybe Yorkside Pizza can still make it.

Best sammich ever:
[image from too old to be available]
The Reuben

NOTE: Be very careful when doing a GIS for "reuben". I have moderate safe search turned on, and believe me, the 4th picture returned is nowhere near moderately safe!

Best sandwich: Moon's Over My Hammy from Denny's.
2nd place: Chicken Spinach Melt from Claddaugh's Irish Pub (grilled thick white bread with spinach dip, swiss cheese, and chicken breast).
3rd place: Italian Combo from Panera, on a baguette, no mayo, dipped in Balsamic Vinagerette.

To see the FAT originator, see

Another Jersey favorite is FAT MANAS, (like white castle bug real meat and tasty onions on a potato roll)
2004-08-19 11:32:40 AM
Oscar Meyer bologna, a single slice of Kraft american cheese, a dab of Miracle Whip, between two slices of Wonder Bread.

Wow, thanks for the great gay porn site! You gotta see the guy with his balls poking through the hammock!

Some of my favorite 'fat' sandwiches...

Fat biatch (Fat Naked biatch, w/o lettuce)
Fat Bastard
Fat Fellatio
Fat Knight
Fat Cat

I could go on, I only usually eat 1 a semester though. Waiting for that bus by Scott Hall and you get tempted. Anymore then 1 and your heart asplode.

BTW, three things have to happen.
1. Rutgers Fark Party
3. Submitting Medium and Targum articals as legit news sources on Fark.

As have I... I got my first fat bastard off that truck, or as its called now, the "Fat *@stard" My guess is one of the Douglas dykes biatched about the curses on the menu and it had to get changed.
2004-08-19 11:55:36 AM

Ok, when? After school gets in?
2004-08-19 11:57:34 AM
Gotta love the grease trucks... Although many would argue for the Fat Moon or Fat Buddah.
2004-08-19 11:59:16 AM
I hate them Douglass biatches. Why else would the curses be gone but not the boobs.
They should move Douglass over to with Cook and let them live with the cows.
2004-08-19 12:00:19 PM
Sounds good. Like a Friday night. Set that shiat up
2004-08-19 12:01:35 PM
Better sammiches (in no particular order):
1) A good muffaletta
2) leftover t-giving turkey, avo, lettuce, tomato, bacon, mayo on toasted sourdough
3) A traditional italian combo (w/ good quality ingred.) swimming in vinegar
4) Reuben
2004-08-19 12:02:09 PM
Seton Hall student here. Pilgrimages to the 'trucks were mandatory. I can't remember the "Fat" name of my sandwich- Cheesesteak, chicken fingers, mozzerella sticks, and fries. Can anyone help me out here?

By the way, another awesome (non grease truck) sandwich is the "Day After"- Turkey, gravy, mashed potatoes, stuffing, and cranberry sauce on a sub roll. Simply amazing.

If your a tourist

Anybody can throw greasy meat and cheese on a hoagie and call it a samich. People in Philly have this gigantic chip on their shoulders when it comes to their one contribution to the world. They're OK but they aren't life changing. I mean, even Jack in the Box makes a Cheesesteak. What's the big deal?

Philly contributions for all the ignorant "Philly's a dump" people

While almost all cities lay claim to their share of "firsts", no U.S. city can claim as many as Philadelphia.
One of the oldest cities in the United States, Philadelphia was founded by William Penn in 1682 and laid out in a simple grid pattern that included wide streets and five public squares. In that respect, Philadelphia was the first "planned city" in North America.

While it would be impossible to list all of Philadelphia's "firsts" in a single article, it's well worth while to look at a sample of some of the most interesting ones.

first public grammar school
first fire department
first hospital
first use of electricity
first university
first bank
first capitol of the US
first municipal water system
first zoo
first modern skyscraper (ac)
first computer....

so know you know why residents have this chip on their shoulder when everyone calls it a filty dump filled with cheesesteaks and Eagles fans...sad but true

/Cheesesteak - Unless you waited in a line within the Deleware Valley then you haven't had one

Chicken cutlets, hot Roast Beef, smothered in marinara sauce on hero roll.
2004-08-19 12:19:02 PM
Right about now I'm craving a pulled pork BBQ w/ a basket of onion straws from Mark's Feed Store in Kentucky.

Although, anything from Portillo's would be a close second.

Sadly, I went to Trenton State and never saw any of these "grease trucks."
2004-08-19 12:44:57 PM
good old ru grill... where i spent so many nights and so much farking money.

the fat darrell is ok. i'm partial to the fat cat with mozzarella sticks. i've tried them all in my 3 years living down there. i used to eat a few fat sandwiches a week. ah, the diet of a college kid. i'm surprised i don't have the cholesterol to show for it.
2004-08-19 01:03:05 PM
I Go to William Patterson (part-time) but I had a few buddies that went to RU. I went there like every other weekend over the last 4 year (before they graduated last year). My one friend, strawberry, was responsible for closing the CROW house last time around. Ahhh, good times good times.

Fark RU Hungry that is.

My perfect turkey on rye:

2 slices caraway rye bread, lightly toasted

120g roast turkey
1 deli slice of monterey jack or jalapeno havarti cheese
1 paper-thin slice of red onion
severl pepperoncini peppers, cut into thin rings
peppercorn ranch salad dressing
some small garlic croutons

That's right, croutons on a sandwich!

/ I have other, better sandwiches which I won't share.
2004-08-19 01:16:50 PM
My latest sandwich creation:

Marinate butterflied (filleted) chicken breast in sweet teriyaki sauce with freshly grated ginger, lots of fresh garlic, and 10 drops of Dave's Insanity Sauce for at least 12 hours.

Fire up the ganja -I mean fire up the grill. Toast a nice kaiser roll, add mayo, fresh tomato slice(s), grilled teriyaki chicken, and grilled pineapple rings.

Mmmmm... hot and sweet...

Amazed that no mention of the Stubbs has made it to the thread. Any sammich that makes the All-Madden Team is hands down the best sammich in the world.

Scrambled Eggs, chesse, enough bacon to kill a pig and sausage all on Texas Toast. No amount of appetizers stacked together a squeezed into a hoagie can top that.

/add a ham steak to the Stubbs and you instantly become a solid.

"Grilled cheese around 12am after a deadshow in the parking lot on Shakedown Street for $1. Butter cheese goodness."
