True, most of us didn't care before 9/11.
Can't dispute that.
True, we didn't think anyone would try something
like attack us, if you put on a shelf the many
bombings of our barracks, our embassys, the first
attack on the WTC, or the various hijackings over
the past 30 years, but they wanted a war and now they
have one.
Allah better help them, they are going to need it.
Regardless of who becomes President, to paraphrase
a Japanese general of WWII regarding Pearl Harbor:

I fear all we have done is rouse a sleeping tiger.

He was right. 9/11 won't be the last attack to be sure.
But for all our problems, America doesn't suck.
We ARE the greatest country in the world.
We have more money, more people, more resources,
more everything. And when we unite against a common
enemy history has proven that said enemy is screwed.
But only if united.

So in closing, fark 'em. They killed a bunch of fine
folks just going to work, so they should all die.

/end rant

I have to say that the Queda folks would WANT Bush to win, if for no better reason that his cowboy attitude makes the rest of the world rather sick of us. When W starts dropping bombs on terrorist camps, that'll just up the ante for the rest of the terrorists to scream "Martyr" and renew the Jihad with that much more vigor.

One point that nobody here has made yet is in relation to this part of page three...

"According to the intelligence document, al-Hindi noticed that a local British imam employed African-American bodyguards with families in Montana. "KSM tasked him with traveling to Montana to recruit the bodyguards' family members,""

Who's to say that the next round of attacks won't be coming from militant muslims that aren't of obvious Arab heritage? I've known a few African-Americans who were frothing-at-the-mouth ready to take down the "establishment," if only someone would point them in the right direction. Remember, it only took 19 people to hijack four of our airplanes on 9/11. I dare say that a few dedicated arabs could find 50+ African-Americans to blow shiat up for them. I'm not trying to start any racially biased crap here, it's just an observation.

What a waste of time trying to figure out which side Al Q supports and what an attack would mean for the election.

However, an important issue to discuss:

does disclosing information about ongoing investigations and sources makes us more safe or less? I tend to think that making announcements like the one a week ago makes the administration appear as if they are on top of things at the expense of our actual safety. I believe this level of disclosure destroys any chance of getting more information from the sources that were being tapped. So, even without Ridge's political plug for Bush in his announcement, I think these types of warnings function as advertisements that the government isn't wasting our tax dollars. In so far as this is supportive of the current administration, it can't help but be a political statement.

I have a question.

If you report him youll likely make his life hell, since federal agents would likely be contacting his neighbors, friends, and employers to ask about him (if, that is, they cant simply eliminate him as a suspect off-hand, which they surely have to do with all the calls they must get). If they ever hint why theyre asking about him, expect him to lose his job, and his friends, and his neighbors. Factor in the damned small possibility that hes anything other than a devoted family man and I say its just something you should keep in the back of your head in case anything actually suspicious happens.
Then again, I called the FBI to report one of my neighbors as a possible DC sniper suspect, so who the hell am I to talk? = )

The article was simplistic, stating what's obvious to anyone who has been paying attention.

hey Spiffy... put down the crack pipe and back away slowly.

No... I'm not a "neocon"
Yes... They will still be terrorists with the same ideas and plans regardless of who wins the American elections.

However, they do care who wins... Bush kills them. There you go. A francophile and UN wuss who wants to negotiate vs right wing nutjob who kills them? They'd prefer the wuss anyday.

I see we have all the farking idiots assembled in one place today. It'd be a good time to spin up the 50 cal on ole spooky.

But seriously, if Kerry's old lady was running for President I might be okay with that. I don't think she is to be trifled with.

2004-08-08 05:37:06 PM
Spiffy

I did not say the elections would not be in their plans. And they probably think they can influence them somehow but to what end I do not know.

But, going back to my original question, I still think that even in the event of a terrorist attack, Bush and his supporters will point to Spain and say we would be cowards if we voted him out. Are you denying that would happen? Everything I have seen from the media and Bush up to this point backs what I am saying. It's spin and you are buying it everytime you say "the terrorists want Kerry to win". That's not true. Unless you have some info I don't (other than links to the right wing media).

I don't see how speculation about what political tactics might be used
really has any bearing on the issue. The fact is planning an attack
timed to an election means they are intensely interested in
influencing the outcome. From past experience, which way would they
think that impact would go?

2004-08-08 05:43:54 PM
Hell, if they want to do the most destructive thing possible, they should just disrupt things to leave Bush in office.

Bush in office = screwing-over the world more than any terrorist plot.

My thoughts exactly. If I were recruiting for Al Qaeda, my first stop would be the West Side of Chicago, and I'd spend a lot of time with people who are or have been in out of the prisons, where conversion to Islam is a fairly regular occurence.

I'd also look at disrupting things like the food supply. Think about all the produce we import from Mexico and how easily it could be tainted somehow. Also, Latin America would make an ideal staging ground for, say, a dirty bomb plot.

It's like Noam Chomsky says: it's not hard at all to smuggle a nuclear device into the USA. All you have to do is stick in a bale of marijuana.

Actually they taught about the electorial college and it's complete lack of regard for what the public wants back when I was in the eighth grade.

What, exactly, do you mean by "lack of regard for what the public wants?" Electors vote the way their state has told them to, with only one exception I can think of, and that was when the conclusion was already foregone.

As to /breeding, personally I hope you do/are breeding, working, consuming and obeying your corporate masters.

If I "breed," it will be because the little woman and I want to. People reproduced before there were corporations, you know.

You're certainly doing a good job of being a mouthpeice for them.

Ah, yes, the ever-present them/they

However, when/if you do grow up and get a little perspective

By that do you mean drink the Kool-Aid?

perhaps you'll realize exactly how farked up things really are and have been for a long time.

Yes, I have a good job, good benefits, wonderful girlfriend, supportive family... boy, is life farked up.

Until then...by all means go on being what they want you to be. All you have to lose is your humanity.

The question we all should be asking is what would Dan Quayle do?

What would Danny Quayle do, if he was here right now?
He'd make a plan and follow through,
That's what Danny Quayle would do.

What would Danny Quayle do, if he was here right now?
I'm sure he'd kick an ass or two,
Thats what Danny Quayle would do.

When Danny Quayle traveled in time
To the year 3010
He fought the evil robot king
And saved the human race again.

Hang on a sec.. last week these "threats" were nothing but ploys by the RNC & VRWC (the Vast Right Win...) to divert attention away from the Kerry Kampaign. But all of a sudden they are "real" because the Left has found a way to spin the White House's reaction in a negative way. -- 'farking pathetic way to go through life, Lefties.. weak

I can see the hippies are desperately trying to push the point that al-Qaeda somehow gives a crap if Bush or Kerry wins. Here's a tip, they don't. They will still be terrorists with the same ideas and plans regardless of who wins the American elections.

What you are saying is media hype and spin. I don't expect you or anyone to stop buying it though and that's what worries me. The idea of terrorism is to make people, umm, feel terrorized! The media pushes that point. We believe it. The terrorists win.

Vote for whichever president makes you feel more secure (if either), but not because you think it's what the terrorists want.

Moroccans usually take their vacation during August, so it's most likely that he's just going home for that reason. There are so many Moroccans returning home from jobs in Europe that they run the ferries from Spain 24 hours per day.

If Al Qaeda disrupts the voting, it's not necessarily because they favor either side. Kinda hard to have a democracy when you can't elect officials, right? When people are too scared to go to the polls?

But it's my guess that they'd rather have Bush in office, actually, for one simple reason: he's hurt the opinion of the US in the rest of the world. Nothing like isolating your enemies to make them weak.

Love how on page 3 the African-Americans get set up for collaboration with potential terrorists.

That's some bold racial profiling they've got going there. I'm willing to bet every cent I make for the rest of my life that if the bodyguards had been average euro-trash, we wouldn't even be reading anything about body gaurds.

Here's the remaining hierachy you can expect:

- Mexican truckers running supplies across the nation for sleepers cells.
- Asian mathmaticians calculating and helping to formulate plans.
- Suprise! The jews are funding the entire shebang! What a twist!

I guess since the government has the ability to detain/dissappear anyone anytime anywhere now, they're trying to be efficent and enact 'Operation Remove Darkies' ASAP.

If that's the case, I'm getting right in there along side them to fight the revolution.

/wonders what happened to the America he learned about in American schools

Nearly three years since our last domestic terrorist attack and it's still the leading story on the News.

Why?

Because Bush wants it that way. It's his only chance to win reelection since he's, as Google correct terms it, a "miserable failure" (type it in).

Can't believe anyone still wants to reelect this ass-clown.

Lets get Kerry in, Wesley Clark as Sec. of Defense, and start turning this war around so we're actually winning it.

Good summation. But, it's basically an outline of all the news that's come out over the past week. It's been a big week.

Could someone tell me what is so great about this article? It basically just tells us "the government says the media fuct the government by releasing details we didn't want released". A well informed public is the only way to keep the public safe.

This is one of the best, most researched, eloquent and articulate threads of clueless people I have seen on Fark. There were a few wiser people who ventured to say I don't know. The theories are really creative tho'.

I don't know but I would suspect we can count on surprise folks. That is all, surprise. Maybe a bit of how did they come up with that? And it seems to be a when not if situation.

How, pray tell, would people be scared away from the polls by a terrorist attack? Terrorists go after targets that will get a lot of kills and chaos (I assume), and last I checked, most election polling centers were in schools and little places like that.

It's tough being a neo-con...

I don't know whether I'm supposed to be here screaming "This is EXACTLY WHAT WE'VE BEEN TALKING ABOUT" or "THIS IS WHY THE LEFT IS WRONG"

Can someone re-forward me the memo, I missed it...

Oh and I'm bringing the Jello to the potluck next Sunday!
