commonwhiteguy

There are good "white" players in the league, but unfortunately they are not American.

For example, Nowitzki was playing on the German team.

commonwhiteguy I'll try to be as PC as possible. Quite frankly no, there aren't any white players good enough to make the team. All the good white players in the league are non-American, and the two half-whites who were invited to play both declined. As for the commercials: putting coloreds in commercials is a good marketing idea because it shows product appeal to different demographics. Putting some shiatty cracker on the team wouldn't appeal to anyone, except maybe you? I don't get what you mean by the school events or sporting event watering down. Darkies are in the sporting events because of their superiority in said medium. I do apologize if the shady ones ruined your pep rally somehow.

Right, but how come people get jobs that are only half as qualified as another, based on thier skin color. If thats the type of society we live in, shouldn't that apply to Bball too?

2004-08-04 05:53:38 PM
you guys are all stupid.....
A.) its not like any of us could do any better
B.) the germans beat the italians, who, if any of you actually watched the game, are a pretty good team.

stop your complaining

Couldn't happen to a better bunch of overpaid, crybaby, immature pathetic excuses for players in a "team" sport. What has happened in the NBA is just like what happened to Jazz after Coltrane, except its basketball after Michael. So the NBA has turned into a 1 on 1 iso game where nobody can shoot, make free throws and everybody heaves up wing on a prayer shots instead of playing the game as a team sport. Its become how to get on sportscenter instead of winning and playing a team game and I sincerely hope they crap out and dont get a medal. They are lazy, slack, useless pot heads (except for Duncan) and deserve to show the world what a shame they are.

/to hell with the nba

Puff, Puff, Give could be heard outside the locker room. Of course, fights ensued when A.I. didn't share - just like on the court.

Right, but how come people get jobs that are only half as qualified as another, based on thier skin color. If thats the type of society we live in, shouldn't that apply to Bball too?

So your saying you'd like the tema to be evenb MORE shiatty, just so you can have a white guy to cheer for?

Right, but how come people get jobs that are only half as qualified as another, based on thier skin color. If thats the type of society we live in, shouldn't that apply to Bball too?

Well I suppose if you're going to make the claim that the people who are getting jobs according to affirmative action are half as qualified as the whiteys getting rejected, I'm asserting that no white player in the league is even half as qualified as the worst negroid player on Team USA. That includes the one black yet to play an NBA game. p.s. *their*

The personals girl says her favorite book is "Hitchhiker's Guide to the Universe." At least I know the name of my favorite book.

The personals girl's "I'm mistaken for" section names a ton of big-breasted blondes. I don't care if she's never read that book in her life.

Stupid headline to go with link...

also... Iverson's "Buzzer Beater" happened with 1.5 mins left to play... that aint no buzzer beater.

2004-08-04 06:08:50 PM
Yes, lets put mandatory white guys on NBA/US Basketball, and while we are at it, lets put some mandatory black guys in NHL/US Hockey.

That would surely make the talent level much higher.

2004-08-04 06:09:01 PM
Iverson's buzzer beater happened as time expired. The buzzer ending the game went off while the ball was in the air hence the term.

2004-08-04 06:14:01 PM
What a bunch of asshats. Pointing to the sky? Piling on top each other at mid court? Because they barely beat an unheralded opponent in an exhibition game? Give me a break. No wonder Europeans thing we're arrogant showboaters.

2004-08-04 06:16:04 PM
skinink: There is no I in team. But there's an M and an E.

That was our rebuttal to our basketball coach for that damn cliche. No wonder we were horrid.

I agree with sports guy, marburry is terrible...

2004-08-04 06:31:28 PM
Don't know if this has been suggested, but I think the U.S. should go back to non-NBA players, so we can have an excuse to lose. Plus, most of these guys just don't want it bad enough.

2004-08-04 06:34:16 PM
Damn, you people are some haters.

I would love to see Team USA pull it together and play nice with each other. That would teach all of them something about teamwork and practice in front of all the little nba wannabes that will watch.

If they fall on their faces because American basketball players got all arrogant after the dream team fiasco, that's really too bad. I'd still like to see them win it all, but that's because I'm an arrogant American I suppose.

2004-08-04 06:35:38 PM
I, too, would bang the hell out of today's Personals chick.
I want to make beautiful babies with her.

2004-08-04 06:36:27 PM
International basketball emphasizes teamwork far more than the American NBA game does.

These guys are out of their depth.

No medal forthcoming.

We used to say that too. My favorite was "No, but there's an i in champion."

Another network should brodcast foreign basketball during the NBA season. I'd rather watch that.

i think what you all need to realize is that the rest of the world is catching up in what we think of as "american" sports. they are producing an exciting, fundamentally proficient brand of the game we have come to know for overpaid showboats and hot dogs. our atheletes are getting schooled by the euros because they don't expect them to be any good. but in fact, they're finding out quickly they can't just waltz in and win by 30 anymore. they're starting to produce quality american football players over there too. perhaps one day when we play a "world series" or call an american team "world champs," it will actually include teams from across the globe. i, for one, welcome our new pasty competitors. show our slack-ass NBA f-ups what it means to play! maybe we'll start seeing some good games back home as well instead of watching a guy making $10 mil a year walk the ball up the court all night. yawn.

skinink: Team USA Motto: There is no 'I' in team, but there is no 'we' neither.

My friends and I like to say: "There is no 'I' in 'team,' but there's an 'm' and an 'e.'" (me)

2004-08-04 07:13:39 PM
Hold on. Team USA wins by 20, they're doomed. Team USA loses, they're doomed. Team USA beats the team that beat the team they lost to, so they're doomed.

That kind of reasoning has to be some kind of fallacy, right?

For all the whiners out there talking about how the European teams play together all year:

1. Many of the European national teams are likely a mish-mash of players from different European professional teams.

2. How long has Dirk Nowitski played for Germany?

3. LOL ROTFLMAO American BBALL team is t3h gh3y! They suxors!!

Wait, serious question: why didn't the US just use the Pistons?

I believe that it's a very good idea. Actually, I believe that you could take any regular NBA team and they would readily outperform anything that Germany or Italy could field.

I'm sure that in reality you could not get all the players of any regular team to agree. Plus, there would be some political resistance to sending Darvin Ham to play Internationally and leaving Allen Iverson at home.

But I don't think that was really your point. I think you were suggesting that a team of players who know each other and who really can and do play as a Team would outplay a team that was really just a collection of self-professed superstars.

Perhaps one of the things that made Dream Team I such an undefeatable force was the fact that the greatest of the superstars on that team deliberately took a back seat. Bird, Johnson and Jordan resisted the role of team leader. Meaning that, as a team, you had some very talented people who were there and were willing to support the team first and their egos second.

I remember an interview with Chuck Daley where he was basically laughing at himself and the depth of his team saying "Can you imagine coaching a team and leaving Michael Jordan on the bench?" The thing is, that's what Jordan wanted. He wanted to be the bench player who was called in to feed the ball to Charles Barkley.

2004-08-04 07:57:27 PM
Let's see ... first Italy .... then Germany .... Japan says, "Give us a piece of these guys!"

I watched the end of the game. Here, in one sequence, is why Team USA better amazingly learn to change its game, or it is going nowhere.

1. Iverson hits a three to put U.S. up by three.

2. U.S. gets a defensive stop, has the ball up by three with 46 seconds to go.

3. $tephon Marbury comes up court, and, recognizing the precariousness of the situation .... IMMEDIATELY LAUNCHES A BRICK THREE-POINTER FROM ABOUT FIVE FEET BEYOND THE ARC AT THE TOP OF THE KEY!

This sucks. I'm a Pistons fan. These idiots are going to take years off Larry Brown's life.

I read Page2 all the time. That article was good, as always. But this is why I love the Page2 guys:

"Here's why it's short-sighted to name your entire Olympic Team months before the actual Olympics: If somebody breaks out in the playoffs, you can't add him to the team. That's like if US Weekly decided their next 25 covers ahead of time last March, then couldn't adjust when Lindsay Lohan and her breasts had their breakout spring."

HA!

are they going to play the french anytime soon?

2004-08-04 10:48:23 PM
Not sure if this has been said, but does this imply that the quality of talent that the NBA has produced declined?
I for one think so.

I'd pit TeamUSA circa 1990's vs. current TeamUSA anyday of the week. All bets on 90's.

/oh the smell of money is sweet.
//i think i just tapped into the mentality of current b-ball stars.

Everyone seems to forget that the original Dream Team was perhaps the best collection of basketball talent ever put together. Not only were they the most talented team ever to step on a court, but they were all veterans who actually wanted to win the gold. I don't buy the veteran leadership BS that everyone spouts, but I do think that the guys put aside egos because they did want to win.

USA! USA! USA! USA!

Oh wait...nevermind.

I hope Serbia bombs them. Unlike Hockey, it seems the overhyped African Handballers from the US have no national or personal pride and are scared to play in Greece because of Alvin Qeada. Never send the ghetto to represent unless it's the Ghettolympics. They will only embarass you. Just like the US Hockey team trashing their quarters at Salt Lake City and their "miracle on ice" when Canada wasn't playing because of our moral stand against the communist army amateurs that the US forgot about. Oh wait,it's the USA we're talking about. They have no shame. They bathe in their ignorance and bask in their stupidity.

America's cheating ways have been exposed so watch the US medal count drop dramatically and the US will not attend future games because they can't win without cheating or whining about biased Ref's.(See Marion Jones, Tim Montgomery, US Afican Handball Team, the rest of the track team)I will enjoy these Olympics simply because the Americans are going to lose and their tiny minds will shut down.

Argentina will beat the USA in African Handball.
