"Dr. Seuss had just died. Jackson did it as a tribute, not as a gag. It's one of the mopst moving moments on SNL ever."

Really? Boy it sure didn't come off that way. I mean, I don't think it was disrespectful or anything, but I definately don't remember it being a tribute. Anyway, I laughed my arse off at that one. I think that is definately in my top five favorite bits ever on SNL.

It's nice to see politicians have a sense of humor from time to time. I wish some folks posting on the Bush vs. Kerry forums here could realize that a good sense of humor goes a very, very long way.

I thought the green eggs and ham thing was a riot.

Didn't know it was a 'tribute.'

Bill Clinton is an admitted perjurer, a serial groper, possibly a rapist, and an all-around lying scumbag whose disinterest in going after Bin Laden helped lead to the deaths of over 3000 Americans.

That said, I bet he kicks Al Gore and Al Sharpton's ass in the hosting duties department.

What's up with all of the links in your posts? Do you always do that?

It's President of the United States Bill Clinton.

No one has won an election and taken office since he has.

I rest my case.

KOSMONAUGHT

I just couldn't resist after reading all the posts on the correct usage of the term "President."

Really I'd be interested if this appearance is going to be full of Cigar & Monoca jokes. If so I would consider it a real slam against the American people. A Ha Ha Ha I got away with it statement on his part.

I am still not sure if he thinks he got away with it or if he was or is genuinely sorry for what he did, both cheating on his wife and lieing under oath and by extension to the American People. (The cheating is between him & Hillary, the lieing between him and the American people).

If the whole matter is made light of I would consider it a great insult to us.

I know the show hasn't aired yet but I will be very interested in what happens. Maybe they can get Kenny G to come and jam with him. After all, if there is one thing former President Clinton has been good at it has been tooting his own horn :-). Or is that a saxaphone?

This Canadian loved Clinton.

2004-08-04 12:09:20 AM
Snow,
You asked about presidents having only two terms...

Didn't used to be that way. FDR was hella popular and won four times straight. Republicans got pissed and passed a new law.

That's why.

They oughta have Clinton and Will Ferrell doing "Janet Reno's Dance Party"

Sounds like he is perfect for SNL!

Yeah, what he did sucked for everyone. His family especially. But let it go. He didn't murder anyone.

Now can you imagine if they had OJ Simpson on SNL? That would be a real controversy.

I just saw a transcript of the bit:

BC: Hey I have lots of money now! Har har (applause sign blinks...)

BC: Hillary would make a good president, wouldn't she? Har har (ditto)

BC: Man, I cudda had OBL. Har har.

BC: Man, I have really bad taste in women Har har "

BC: It's really good to be me! har har

BC: I don't have any sense of how really lame I was/am. Har har"

BC: Look at me! Har har "

BC: I am getting union wages to do this. I don't care. I am already rich. Har har "

BC: Gotta go. Some black, big ass skank wants to blow me. Har har.

Applause sign blinks madly. guys in sound booth look at each other, wondering what ever happened to Belushi. Curtain drops.

abdul - "I love how everybody seems to like Clinton now. It was less than four years ago when everybody was up in arms about a goddamn BJ..."

Yeah, we always seem to look back fondly on all of our past presidents. Look at Reagan, he has been remembered very fondly in the past few years. Even Richard Nixon.

That SOB Reagan is the reason I can't drink for another few years. I also credit him with letting the national debt spiral out of control. Face it, people make everyone look good when they die. Its just a stupid culture thing. People shouldn't change their feelings about somebody just because they die. Doing so is not "disrespectful", it's retarded.

caseyscrib.com -

EVERY president is looked back on with a fondness. Maybe it reminds us of more innocent times (remember what it was like before 9/11? We will never go back to times like that again.) Maybe it is because we can stand back and look at their presidency more objectively. I don't know. I think every president probably acted in the way they thought best served the people. I know, I'm gonna get flamed for being too nice. But we never had anyone who was anything close to Stalin, Hitler, etc. etc. I think Americans are privileged in being able to have a sense of humor about their leadership and history. It means that we have been doing pretty ok.

To our future, may it be as great as our history!

BTW, WTF does Reagan have to do with the fact that you can't drink for another few years?

2004-08-04 12:31:28 AM
Darryl Hammond will have a field day with that episode.

And no, the show does NOT suck. At least it didn't while Ferrel was still on. It has gone somewhat downhill since he left, but it still has its moments.

Oh, and for anyone thinking its just a liberal stronghold, remember that Steve Forbes, John McCain, and a number of other conservative-minded people have hosted SNL. Don't equate making fun of Bush with being liberal. It's a comedy show. There were plenty of Clinton jokes over the years.

/thought the Al Gore episode was hilarious

2004-08-04 12:31:51 AM
darvijen, it did at first, but now I'm starting to get a chuckle out of it. I'm looking forward to some more entertaining posts.

I doubt Bill would do any worse than these politicos that have hosted SNL.
Julian Bond
Steve Forbes
Rudy Giuliani
Al Gore
Jesse Jackson
Ed Koch
John McCain
George McGovern
Ralph Nader
Ron Nessen
Al Sharpton
That's a Murderer's Row of comedy, I tell ya.

Actually McCain was quite good, in fact he was one of the best hosts they've had recently. It takes some balls to try to sing Streisand tunes w/ his voice! Gore also did a good job. The picking a running mate Bachelor-style skit was excellent!

I'll betting ol' Bubba brings down the house!

2004-08-04 12:36:04 AM
josephstalin, I think there are those here who think that SNL is a liberal stronghold because they completely lack a sense of humor. Every politician has given us tons of fodder for comedy. Ever notice political cartoonists get giddy at the chance to charicature new politicians? I love it. Watch JIBJAB. I don't care what your party's affiliation, it should make you laugh your ass off.

/I don't fear republicans or democrats. I fear those who lack a sense of humor.

2004-08-04 12:36:17 AM
I just saw him on Letterman, and actually cried at how much smarter he is, in so many obvious ways, than, say, those who bookended him. I have many issues with him, his legacy, and what he did, but let's face it, people, he is so much smarter than Dubya that it makes the baby Jebus weep.

whidbey, Clinton is a snobby, elitist President? Compared to who? You're daft, man.

And Triaxis, you're nuts if you think SNL is some kind of DNC media organ. They've taken plenty of shots at Democrats, and continue to do so. It's not their fault that Bush is providing so much fodder for satire these days.

But, feel free to stew in your own paranoia if you must.

Actually, former presidents are still officially addressed as "predident", not former president. It doesn't change.

taranducal, I'm not one to make fun of someone for a spelling mistake, but I got a picture in my head of some retarded guy saying "Hewlo mistuh predident."

Sorry, I've had too much to drink and just thought that was funny.

again the tag is much more appropriate

I just saw him on Letterman, too. There aren't enough o's in smoove to describe that mofo. He can't be THAT smoove without being incredibly intelligent. I know he cared about our country, and I sorely miss him.

His greatest detriment became his enormous popularity. It made the ignorant and hysterical members of the right frothy with hate for him. They bent over backwards to smear him and drag him through the mud over a blowjob and his subsequent lie about it. They spent millions of dollars to crucify him. They tainted his legacy for political reasons only.

Then, by chance, Dubya (a polarizing figure regardless of whether or not he declared himself a uniter and not a divider) "wins" the closest election ever (yet he still loses the popular vote by hundreds of thousands of votes). This unqualified legacyboy proceeds to rewrite environmental, energy, pharmaceutical, and tax policy to favor the filthy rich, inherit a nation-changing national tragedy, and invade a country that had nothing to do with said nation-changing national tragedy.

Let's get this country headed back in the general direction Clinton was taking us, instead of the opposite direction we're heading now. They call us progressives for a reason.

Van Mundegaarde - I've said it before and I'll say it again.

"You wanna know who was responsible for 9/11? 19 fanatical cowards with a misguided agenda."

The rest of us are just doing the best they can to make sure it doesn't happen again.

I am so sick of flamers like madtowner11. So self important and evangelical in their cause. I'm tired of this crapola. If you wanna talk issues, talk issues. If you wanna kick and fight and pull each-others hair, go out back.
