Personality disorder? What ever happened to just plain crazy?

All_Farked_Up

Personality disorders are when the natural antisocial traits that all people experience get exacerbated to a point where they severely damage the ability to lead a "normal" life (whatever normal is). There's a big diference between being a dick and being afraid to leave your house. They are very real, though I would agree it's ridiculously overdiagnosed. Blame that on phychiatric and pharmecutical industries looking for growth.

2004-08-03 01:56:25 PM
So let me get this straight... 15% of the people are controlling 100% of the personality disorders in this country?

/CLASS WAR! (said like 'FOOD FIGHT!')

I prefer to state that my lack of any personality whatsoever is in itself a disorder. That's besides the paranoid schizophrenia, mind you.

If you knew anything about real paranoid schizophrenics you would know that some of them have brilliant personalities.

All_Farked_Up, I'll definitely buy that.

on my own, here we go....

2004-08-03 01:58:48 PM
Is it a personality disorder if you can't tie your shoes without crying? Or masturbate without screaming in abject terror?

2004-08-03 01:58:57 PM
I've got this condition where I can't program a VCR without spilling piping hot gravy all over myself. It's lead to 2 embarassing Thanksgivings....

I can't tie my shoes without masturbating

I call shennanigans. EVERYTHING these days is a 'personality disorder'. "Obsessive Pedophile", or "Chronic Internet Pornography Addiction" or "Suicidal Hypochindria". These are all just buzzwords created by the Trilateral Commission to scare us into buying the neural inhibitors they call 'perscriptions'. Just last week, my "psychiatrist" who got his "degree" from "Indiana University" said I suffered from massive "paranoia" and that I needed "treatment". He gave me some "placebos", but I don't think they're anything but sugar pills.

Its the crazy ones you have the best sex with.

How true, how true.

2004-08-03 02:04:12 PM
As several people have observed (correctly), having sex with the crazy ones is better. A question for the psycho-medicated farkers out there: is masturbation better if you go off your meds?

2004-08-03 02:04:21 PM
Well, Lewis Carol and Captain Sir Richard Francis Burton and Van Gogh and Churchill had "substance abuse" problems and "personality disorders." That's just off the top of my head. Generally, I'd say genius and creativity are accompanied by one or the other or both.

So what?

These doctors would like to see every human be mediocre and predictable and maleable and dull. No smoking. No drinking. No laughing. Consume. Obey. Marry and reproduce. Agree and cooperate until you die.

Pbbbbbt.

I don't know RELOAD how you can RELOAD say that RELOAD with a straight RELOAD face. Oh, sure I RELOAD had an Internet addiction RELOAD once, but I've RELOAD overcome it now and RELOAD lead a life as a productive RELOAD member of society.

Just hit it, and get out, otherwise ya gotta deal with that shiat for the rest of your life.

Gotta agree that the sex with these looneys is absolutely incredible!!! How can a freak in your bed be a bad thing? Oh yeah, you cant fark them all the time and their, uh, idiosyncrasies make you want to kill them.

Is it a personality disorder if you can't tie your shoes without crying? Or masturbate without screaming in abject terror?

I always thought the saying went, "It's not a screaming party unless you masturbate in abject terror."

2004-08-03 02:06:37 PM
We don't have a personality disorder.

Yes we do.

No we don't! Shut up!

2004-08-03 02:06:52 PM
having been to the mall, I find that number to be disturbingly low.

There just aren't enough preteen kids on ritalin these days.

2004-08-03 02:07:30 PM
"I can't tie my shoes without masturbating"

That's odd, becuase I can't masturbate without somehow tying my shoes.

I should probably start wearing boots.

2004-08-03 02:11:30 PM
And did I mention that virtually all medical studies are pure, crystalline, unadulterated bullshiat?

Here's how they go:

Let's take two factors out of the thousands that impact human health and behavior and study them. Then we draw sweeping conclusions about all humans of every race and geographical location and diet and heredity and DNA!

Pbbbbt.

These studies are like a pack of baboons trying to describe a space shuttle.

doghouse reilly - This is why you should wear sandals all year round. Much easier on your late mornings.

Now for myself. I am OCD. I have to do things in a very specific order or I get frustrated. I work at a place where we engrave silver jewelry and I have to organize the jewelry in a manner where the largest item is engraved first and the smallest item is engraved last. I also organize the jewelry by shape. When I have a ton of square shaped pendants to engrave, I put them side by side and make a long line of squares. I line my pens up neatly in a row and if they get out of order, I tend to get mad and it affects my work. I have to make sure that all the bracelets are engraved with a certain end facing to the left. I also have to make sure that they are all facing the same way in the bag. I am just a weird OCD freak.

Also, when I see pictures hanging on the wall and they are slightly crooked, I have to fix them. This got me in trouble in a restaurant recently. I reached up to fix a painting and they thought I was trying to steal it. I told them to fix their damn pictures and have some respect for people with disorders. From then on, the waiters looked at me funny.

if sex with the crazies is so great, do people with multiple personalites just masturbate constantly??

Its the crazy ones you have the best sex with.
Does that still count if you have a split personality and you're touching yourself? Cuz' really it isn't that good..

2004-08-03 02:12:30 PM
I liked the headline, but the three other voices in my head didn't. Shut up, we do too. Speak for yourself, I think it's crap. Yeah, I agree with that guy, it's no good. Who are we to judge dmv workers? I'm sure there are a few nice ones. Are you kidding me? Don't you remember the last time we went, that old guy couldn't understand that we needed a license for each of us.

Yes, I am well aware of that, and you qualified the statement yourself. I happen to be paranoid schizo (as in, have actually been diagnosed) and also happen to have a marked lack of personality.

The bigger problem is telling the mediocre and patently average that they are special and unique. Society needs to stop encouraging the hopes and dreams of those who are obviously destined for mediocrity. The result is people who think that thier ideas are novel and revolutionary when they are just approtiating the ideas of others and claiming them to be their own (look at most poetry--and rantings--of young people).

Not everyone is special and destined for greatness. Most people aren't. Most people will lead a mundane and unextraordinary existence.

Preach on brutha...
Read somewhere that if you asked a European MD about ADD/ADHD etc, that their response is something to the effect of "It's a made up disorder."
As a kid, teachers told my parents I was hyperactive and daydreamed a lot. Now days they would insist I be put on ritalin (sp?).
I think it's all a conspiracy to sell more drug and enrich the pharma companies. If you dig deep enough, I bet it's Bush's fault and that the Kerry's own some of the pharmas.

this report is released because of Bushco's current goal of:

Bush to screen population for mental illness.

theflyingdutchman: Amen, brother, and the sooner we all realize we are in the bigger group, the sooner we all will quit freaking out about everything. because a mundane existence is OK. Life is beautiful without having to be some kind of history-making overacheiver Type-A go-getter.

And here is another newsflash: only a tiny percentage of us will ever be rich. Yet the rich dream gnaws away at most American brains like a cancer.

No, personality disorders are NOT simply a way to pathologize socially unacceptable behavior.

They are for real, as anyone who has a loved one with such a disorder can account. The socially unacceptable behavior is a sympton of the disorder, not the disorder itself. Most of these are biochemical in nature.

Whenever hear the above, I wonder if this view is rooted in the speaker's/writer's discomfort with these disorders. After all, they can happen to anybody, in any family.

Not raggin' on anyone. Just clarifying.

Read somewhere that if you asked a European MD about ADD/ADHD etc, that their response is something to the effect of "It's a made up disorder."

Well, it's nice to know that we still know more than the Europeans. I've taught ADD students, and it's not made up. That's not to say that I think it's a "disorder" or that I think medication is the best way to go. But some people have to be taught in a completely different way than others, that's for sure.

Did you know that fully 50% of Americans have less-than-average mental health?

It's true!

Of course, 50% of Americans have better-than-average mental health.

That's because only one American can have perfectly average mental health. Everyone else by definition must deviate to one side or the other, however slightly.

Her name is Rhonda and she lives in Piscataway, NJ. Her trophy is in the mail.

None of these "disorders" exist.

Here's the scoop for getting in and out of DMV. go online
and get an appointment. last time I went a month ago I
waited exactly ten minutes. in and outa there in twenty
minutes flat. never mind the employee's surliness.

three and a half hours...

Not sure why, but I've been to 3 different DMV offices in the last 10 years, and each time I've waited less than 20 minutes, and I live in a metropolitan area. The last time was on a Saturday at around 10 AM and there were less than 5 customers in the place.

Last time I went for city inspection, I was in line behind an old hooptie that had all that newly-bought paper tag paperwork stuck in the back windshield.

These two chicks were in that car revving the motor, trying, I guess to get it to stop smoking.

Their newly bought lead sled did not pass emissions test. :(
