Haha! Texas has the wild card spot.

Boston = not going to playoffs.

2004-08-02 01:13:41 PM
Nomar seems a bit unstable, but if he hits .330 and gets on base and helps the Cubs make the playoffs this year, I'll put up with his human tweaker ferret batting act.

2004-08-02 01:18:07 PM
Typical Bawston sour grapes. Go Cubbies!

2004-08-02 01:20:30 PM
He got on the bus, turned toward the excited throng, and said, "Why is everyone so happy? As soon as we lose, everyone's just going to rip us."

nomar's right - red sox fans are possessed by some sort of we-can-win-but-we-won't mentality.

here in kansas city, we don't have that worry. when you suck consistantly, you know what to expect.

2004-08-02 01:45:45 PM
Boston fans are like that. They're Yankee Haters... all they care about is beating the Yankees. It's like the little brother with the chip on their shoulder.. and whine when they get smacked in the face by the older, better looking brother that gets laid all the time (The Yankees).

2004-08-02 01:47:51 PM
Oh.. and:

Patriots = Overrated.
Tom Brady = Not the next Marino or Montana.

2004-08-02 01:56:33 PM
Tom Brady's Super Bowl rings: 2
Dan Marino Super Bowl rings: 0

Smookyfufu

Hey idiot. You are talking about Boston fans how they are such haters then why is it I see you in EVERY SINGLE thread that has anything to do with Boston hating on us?

Everyone mentions the wildcard as well. we'll see sucka.

Plus, I don't say yankees suck because they don't. They are a fabulous team but I just prefer to root for my home team.

2004-08-02 02:02:54 PM
Patriots = dynasty in progress

RedSox = the sporting equivalent of a suicide bomber,
one that usually only manages to blow themselves up.

Your wrong Smooky, not all Boston fans are whiners. My friends watch the games to see good players and good plays. Yes we hate the Yankees, but we also know that in the end, our team inevitably chokes. Some younger fans (I was one once) delude themselves on this last point, but in time they ALL learn that this team is the ultimate choke machine. Hell, if the RedSox ever did win a game 7, I would assume that the TV had been hijacked by pranksters.

Most of us stop caring much about baseball as soon as pre-season football starts. As far as Brady not being Marino, they play different styles entirely. You can compare Bledsoe to Marino, since they both are/were strictly pocket passers, but Bledsoe's five-cent head completely negates his 5 million dollar arm. I was real happy to see him go, and wouldn't have wanted him back even if we had lost in the 'Bowl that year.

Oh yeah, I almost forgot, we DIDN'T lose that year. Or the last Superbowl either! Yeah, that punk Brady sucks all right.

2004-08-02 02:04:28 PM
First off, let me say I'm happy for my main man Nomar. No man deserves to get out of Red Sox nation more than him, and this is coming from a Sox fan. The guy played harder for this team than everybody else for the past few years, and everytime we lost out, Red Sox nation turned on it's own team, complaining and whining about how they consistantly lose. Nobody desereves fans like that, especially Nomar. I'm glad that he was able to get out, and wish him all the luck in the world. He was without a doubt my favorite Sox player of my time.

Second off, Smookyfufu, it hurts to hear my Pats being trashed. Tom Brady has been Superbowl MVP twice, and I believe in the season between their two championships, he had the most yards of any QB. He's not overrated, although I think people don't give enough credit to his recievers. He's not the long bomb passer, and he never will be. His glory will come for his ability to spread it out, consistently giving out solid mid-range passes. He's on track to being one of the greatest; it's just not happening in the next year.

Third off, if anything, the Pats were horribly underrated after their first Superbowl. Everything from conspiracy theories about "America's Team"="Patriots"=9/11 connections, to screw jobs to a Rams fluke were hauled onto them. And don't forget the fact that they are horribly under-appreciated in Beantown, where I have seen their talent go unnoticed because of the Sox soap opra. The second ring has just proven how great they are. What makes them so fantastic is that there really is no outright football stud, Brady included. They are all just solid, team players. With their major weakness patched up with cement in the form of Corey Dillon, I think they have a great chance at a third in four years.

The Pats are not overrated, and are looking like they will come out on top of a division that always seems to be tough. The Jets are getting tougher, contrary to popular belief. If they can keep Chad healthy, they're a very real threat. The Dolphins are usually perennial playoff competitors, although thankfully that looks like it's going down the tube. And the Bills......well, hopefully they'll just suck.

Now get down on your knees and praise your true blue collar team.

/this was a thread about the Red Sox?

2004-08-02 02:20:44 PM
On every newsradio program, I had to deal with everyone sucking Brady's wang. He's as good as Marino! He's as good as Montana.

Face it. The Patriots win because their coach... and I hate him so... puts them together like a well-oiled machine. Brady isn't great, the team is great.

I give the Patriots credit, they know how to win. But they're still overrated, and they won the superbowl by a fluke. A FLUKE. The Panthers kicker missed.

And I pre-empt Red Sox threads because inevitably, you'll hear "Jeter swallows". Just attacking first. ;)

I feel bad for Nomar. He's a great player. Y'all treated him like dirt.

2004-08-02 02:22:04 PM
Correction to headline: Dan Shaughnessy hates Boston. If you're a Boston fan, you hate him too.

2004-08-02 02:24:00 PM
I can see the Headline of next Sunday: Nomar Slaughtered by Average Sox Fans.

2004-08-02 02:30:36 PM
Dear Boston,

We in New York know how to treat our short stops. Good job abusing one of the best players you've ever had in Boston uniform. I hope Orlando Cabrera works out for you. See you in October. Oh, wait. Just kidding. You'll see us in October playing in the World Series.

Your friend,
New York

PS Tell OneHandFapping that having the second-highest payroll in baseball does not qualify you as a "true blue collar team" and considering that the Pats had the 10th highest payroll last year and were above average in that department, I'd say lose the blue collar description there too.

2004-08-02 02:31:30 PM
CoCoScum

Don't forget the headline in October: Cubs win World Series. Nomar named Series MVP. Red Sox Nation commits collective suicide.

2004-08-02 02:41:01 PM
Heh.

To tell you the truth. If the Yanks don't win it, I want the Cubs to.

I like them, they seem like a nice ball club.

2004-08-02 03:29:03 PM
Dear Red Sox and Cubs fans,

Quit yer biatching! Please. The baseball universe does not revolve around you and your supposed suffering. One more thing. Give Cubs fan credit, at least they have a sense of humor.

Thank you,

bawannal

2004-08-02 04:34:32 PM
Cahbrerah sucks.

/ahead of the curve

2004-08-02 05:08:37 PM
yes, baseball does revolve around the Sox/Yankees/Cubs.
those are the only important teams in baseball.
it's humurous to listen to all the sports broadcasters and sports talk show hosts talk about the Sox/Yanks/Cubs right after the Angels/Marlins win the World Series.

'yeah.. the Marlins are your new champs...so what do u think the Yanks will do differently next year.. and speaking of the yanks.. how about Boston..a nd you can't mention Boston without mentioning the Cubbies.
somewhere in there they throw out Bonds..
but yeah.. thats it.

we lost Nomah, hopefully we can make do in the lineup without him. we have enough hitting.. we just need to put it all together.

and the Patriots are incredible.
too bad we lost Big Joe Thornton-Bruins
Celtics = not fun to watch, and now that there are 3 good teams in the East (Pistons/Heat/Pacers) we don't stand a chance. not like we ever did- we got no center!

2004-08-02 05:33:17 PM
And as a White Sox fan, I now hate Nomar.

2004-08-02 05:49:49 PM
This is why Red Sox Nation is a bunch of pussies and don't deserve to win anything. It will be awesome when Pedro leaves too. You can bad mouth his ass all the way to 4th place.

2004-08-02 05:51:53 PM
Lol, the Red Sox media ripping on Nomar for having a bad attitude. Hypocrisy, hello?

2004-08-02 05:55:14 PM
the reason the red sox have lost for the last 85 years is because of Nomar's attitude. Now that he is gone, the red sox will never lose a series ever again.

2004-08-02 05:56:28 PM
Aren't Cubs fans just as obsessed as Red Sox fans. And they have a curse as well.

Nomar is going to be pissed when he finds out.

2004-08-02 05:57:12 PM
The Red Sox hardly have the monopoly on hating. Anyone remember the NY fans booing Jeter during his beginning of the season slump?

>Tom Brady's Super Bowl rings: 2
>Dan Marino Super Bowl rings: 0

Mark Rypien, Doug Williams, Trent Dilfer...

A Super Bowl ring does not a great QB make.

Oh, and Shaughnessy's an idiot.

2004-08-02 05:58:53 PM
It appears, the Sox have thrown in the towel.

2004-08-02 05:59:47 PM
I'm with FuFu, Tom Brady is overrated. Not that he isn't a good QB, but anyone who watched the SB knows he was not the MVP. Vrabel had, what, two interceptions on defense, and a TD on offense, I belive. Delhomme even had a better overall game than Brady. Brady just got the MVP because (a) QB's always get credit for the W, and (b) all the girls think he's hot. He'a a perfect "Cover boy". He's a good QB under pressure (I'll give him that), but he's not so talented as to warrant the ass-kissing from every talking head in football.

2004-08-02 06:00:32 PM
If he's whining about being under a microscope with the Sox, I can't wait until his depressing attitude takes over the Lovable losers clubhouse.

2004-08-02 06:03:13 PM
The world would be a betetr place if people staopped listing to Gordon Edes' Curly Haired Boyfriend(Shaughnessy).

Smookyfufu You seriously need to STFU.

Dear TalkingBaseball,

We here in Boston did not treat Nomah poorly. The management made some mistakes, but the people of Boston have and allways love Nomar. We will see you in the Playoffs.

Sincearly,
Boston

PS- I don't know if any team can qualify as a true blue collar team when salaries are in the hundreds of thousands.
And how are them Jets treating ya?

2004-08-02 06:04:36 PM
I'd be miserable too if I had Shaughnessy second guessing every move I made.

Screw Nomar, but screw Boston sports writers even more.

2004-08-02 06:04:38 PM
"Dear Boston,

Yeah ok...the fans treated Nomar like crap...its the FANS fault!

2004-08-02 06:05:29 PM
First of all, why do we call them Red Sox Nation? Makes a group of whiny losers seem special somehow. I like the Sox. Only because I hate the Yankees, but there you go. Yet I'm sick of this victim-image they cultivate. Huge payroll and they biatch about Steinbrenner. Yeah, OK. Have you talked to a Brewers fan lately? They have a right to be bitter, but we don't hear about them all the time. And what about the Cubs? They're more notorious losers than the Sox. Yet their fans come off as, well, as drunk frat boys, pretty much. But they take the losing with a shrug and a smile. Hey, it's the Cubs. What do you expect? But somehow, the Red Sox never got to the point of acceptance. Really, if it wasn't for my intense hatred of the pinstripes, I'd root against Boston every chance I got.

My hate-filled run-on paragraph is over now.

"Dear Boston,

I can only assume you're talking about Rey Ordonez...

2004-08-02 06:07:01 PM
I don't hate all Red Sox fans; just the ones who don't know how good they have it and keep going on about curses, not to mention making life miserable for any fan trying to attend a game by screaming curses at opposing fans. Same goes for supposed Cubs fans.

But to be fair, that's the ridiculously voal 1% whiners. Most Red Sox and Cubs fans are reasonable nice people.

2004-08-02 06:07:15 PM
Anybody from Boston knows that Dan Shaughnessy is a pissant. I lost respect for this asshole a long time ago.

2004-08-02 06:09:04 PM
For once, Shaughnessy is right about something.

Nomar said in his press conference "I love Boston, and the fans, and if it was up to me I'd still be wearing a Red Sox uniform, blah blah blah". That's a crock of bullshiat. Nomar has hated Boston ever since the Sox became interested in A-Rod, and rightly so, because they were trying to procure the best player in baseball. He went and took the whole thing personally, which he never should have done. It's a business. The Sox were trying to improve their team. He should be grateful to the Sox for giving him a chance to hone his skills and an entry into the major leagues. Without the Red Sox he would be nothing. Don't buy into this bullshiat; Nomar might look distraught on camera and say that he's hurt and all, but as soon as the cameras were turned off, he went into an empty hallway and started jumping for joy. I can almost guaran-damn-tee it.

2004-08-02 06:09:18 PM
I'm a huge Red Sox fan, and I'm very reasonable and nice.

2004-08-02 06:10:31 PM
that article does sound like a bunch of whining sour grapes. Everything I have heard Nomaaaaah say this weekend has been nice and compliementary of the Sox and their fans, despite the fact that they had him on the block to lure A-rod. So, boo hoo on the Sox fans, I hope he drives in the winning run of the series and all those Bean-town haters can go jump in the Charles river.

2004-08-02 06:10:55 PM
Honestly, I'm sick of Boston and New York rivaling like this, and their fans acting like some crack whores. If al-Qaeda blew them up during a game, I'd give a thumbs up.

2004-08-02 06:12:16 PM
The last person I want to hear about sports from is a Boston Irish Guy, I've been stuck near one at way to many Bruins/Sox games to want to hear any of their opinions, ever.

/Yeah this is a bad generalization, no i don't hate the irish.

2004-08-02 06:12:43 PM
I feel for all of you Sox fans, but as a Cubs fan, I can do nothing but smile, and hope and farking pray that Nomar can help us finish strong enough to get back in the playoffs and vanquish the damn curse...

2004-08-02 06:13:02 PM
As a long suffering Cleveland fan, I have little valuable input here.

BUT, Nomar is a class act, and this article sounds like the author is trying to come up with reasons why losing their best player is a good thing.

Its like Cleveland trying to say losing Boozer was good, even though Boozer is a schmuck while Nomar is ca class act.

2004-08-02 06:13:07 PM
The only sad thing about all of this is that nobody can call him "Nomahhh" anymore. Now they have to use a corny midwest accent (a la Dave Chappelle) and call him "Mr. Nomar Garciaparra".

2004-08-02 06:13:58 PM
Terly Most of us here in New England hope the same. We love Nomah.
Hopefully he will be happier there

...but we also know that in the end, our team inevitably chokes. Some younger fans (I was one once) delude themselves on this last point, but in time they ALL learn that this team is the ultimate choke machine....

i need to get you up here to give a motivational speech to the thousands of delusional Leaf fans i have to put up with every spring...annoying fools...GO LEAFS, ALL THE WAY TO THE CUP BABY!!!...oh...they're out in the second round again...GO LEAFS, NEXT YEAR, ALL THE WAY TO THE CUP...

/glad he's moving to Ottawa, home of a serious hockey team...

2004-08-02 06:17:01 PM
Hey ... now Nomar has a chance for a ring (being on any other club other than the Beantowners).

1918

2004-08-02 06:17:47 PM
I was happy to hear that Nomar got traded. He hasn't been performing like an "All-Star" for the past two seasons (post-season excluded). I still think Theo has brass bearings. He took nothing, and made it into something. Nomar was going to be a free agent at the end of the season, and would be worth less than he was two days ago. The Sox managed to snag another SS and 1B. Not too shabby. So why not trade someone who's not happy where they are? I hope Nomar does well in Chicago. I really hope the Sox can figure out what to do with their pitching staff, next.

/still a Sox fan
//forever a Pats fan

2004-08-02 06:18:13 PM
That article was horribly written. It sounded like the guy was trying to convince himself that he was going to be okay. "I will get over Nomah, I will I will I will..."

I hate the Patriots. Almost as much as the Dolphins. Except I hate the Patriots more because they're good.

Not emotionally ready for football season...
