Best use of the tag ever.

Can't think of any other word to say after reading the article.

Wow, I didn't think anyone was that stupid.

"Let me shoot myself to get these guys in jail!"
"Oh CRAP! I forgot my video was on! Maybe they *won't* notice."

Are you f*cking kidding me? Are. You. F*cking. Kidding. Me.

*eyes bugged out*

Good lord. Even without knowing there was a surveillance camera nearby, how the hell can an 18-year law enforcement veteran think that forensics wouldn't figure out the bullets came from his own damn gun at point-blank range?

Someone just got done watching Mission: Impossible.

2004-07-30 04:46:14 PM
How come he had to be wearing a vest? :(

2004-07-30 04:47:02 PM
Okay, so references to Kerry's purple hearts in 1...2....3....

2004-07-30 04:47:12 PM
Cheeky, probably because noone would check into it? They only checked the video to see if they could get information about the suspects, I doubt anyone doubted his claim.

Hey man, nice shot.

I bet he was upset that he had no movie theatre customers to mace.

Nope, the slugs would be in his vest, and they'd want to see his gun. This has attention whore written all over it.

I'm just gonna say this now:

This is a bad cop, not all cops are bad.

Thank you, please return to your regularly scheduled flame wars.

Hey man, nice shot.

You know, I was just thinking about Bud Dwyer (link to NSFW video of suicide)

2004-07-30 04:49:59 PM
except that the vest would be sent back to the manufacturer right after the incident for quality control. I think that the experts there might notice something a little fishy.

I bet the prosecutor still goes after the

Hmm..he removed himself from the police dept. Maybe next time he'll remove himself from the gene pool?

A small town cop did the same thing here the other year. Although I think he just did it to get some time off. Seriously.

2004-07-30 04:50:56 PM
Wow, that must've taken a lot of balls. I don't know if I'd have that much faith in a vest; reguardless of its function. Maybe he did it so he could go home early?

2004-07-30 04:50:58 PM
I was going to be a cop, but I decided to finish high school instead.

I havent read the article yet but did this take place in Florida?

2004-07-30 04:51:28 PM
Maybe he was just testing the vest.

It would be interesting to know what description he gave of the "perps" and just how far he would have allowed things to go if someone was erroneously charged with his faux felony. Oh yes, and in the name of Darwin, too bad this turned out to be a victimless crime if you know what I mean.

Hmmm, filter farked the link, for some reason.

We had an asshat in a nearby jurisdiction do the same thing last year. Had another stage her suicide as an apparent homicide about 6 years ago.

How soon until we get our very own NJ tag? Or do we need more freaks per square capita? What's the criteria?

2004-07-30 04:53:19 PM
They have him in the filbert factory now, (because he is a nut) and are planning to charge him?

That's kind of overkill.

2004-07-30 04:53:40 PM
He tried to off himself, then when he failed because he forgot that he was wearing a vest, he tried to cover it up.

2004-07-30 04:53:50 PM
i used to work above an alley in Vancouver's notorious downtown eastside. i'd go out on the fire escape for a smoke and watch people in the alley below doing terrible disgusting things including taking the water for their injection from a puddle, various sex acts, finding veins in nasty places because all the other veins have collapsed, beatings, divvying up of the spoils of robberies etc etc.

They'd ALWAYS look up and down the alley to ensure their privacy. Did they ever look UP to see me standing 15 feet above them? Never. A coworker wryly observed that "junkies never look up".

You'd think a cop would, though.

I was going to be a cop, but I decided to finish high school instead.

That's a really cheap shot. I hear the Bush campaign need bright young men like you.

FYI, I don't know of any police department that hires officers that don't at least have a high school diploma or equivalent.

I'm not a big cop lover, but I respect the work they do and the risks they take, and I am sincerely offended by your callous and disrespectful remark.

I'm not easily offended.

2004-07-30 04:55:32 PM
good ol' cops. i grew up with 2 guys and one girl that are all cops now. each one of them are the "i'm gonna mess with you because i can" kind of cops.

i'm sure there are some good ones though. just haven't met any.

2004-07-30 04:55:54 PM
Cheeky:

something like 80% of Cop shootings come from suspects turning the cops own gun on them.

/friend was a deputy sheriff, he was alway told to make certain that his bullet proof vest could at least stop whatever ammo he was carrying in his sidearm

2004-07-30 04:56:09 PM
"the video camera: biggest enemy of CORRUPT police next to Johnny Cochran."

Keep this story in mind next time there's a 'He said/Cop said' situation.

2004-07-30 04:56:13 PM
I just don't understand how someone with 18 years experience would do this. just blows my mind! so much for retirement huh christopher?

2004-07-30 04:56:52 PM
RTFA, it wasn't the car's video, it was a camera in the office building across the street.

A) I respect them as well.
B) This is Fark.
C) Apparently you ARE easily offended.

Dasboot, I believe the latest stats that we had (I could be wrong) is just under 25% with their own weapon.

And yes, I made sure my vest is resistant to the ammo I'm carrying (not that I ever want to see if the manufacturer was right!)

I know this is Fark, and I know asshatish comments run rampant, but that doesn't mean they aren't disrespectful.

Maybe next time you could end a post like that with

/one ticket please

or something like that, to indicate the fact you're making the comment to make the comment.

I'm really not easily offended, but I hate it when people knock on people who do a dirty, underpaid job and, in general, do a good job in keeping us safe.

2004-07-30 05:03:09 PM
He didn't shoot himself in the head because the demons that were tormenting him were residing in his chest cavity and not his cranium, obviously.

jbltkROTFLMAO

Fair enough, but in my eyes, adding the "/one ticket" dealie detracts from the intended humor (if there was any anyways).

2004-07-30 05:04:20 PM
the sad thing about this is if he is diagnosed with a problem the government will cut him a check every month for the rest of his life. and to all the folks here who are employed in various forms of law enforcement (I was there once myself) my hats off to you. This field is highly stressful but that is why various departments have set up counseling departments.

One more thing.

You got trolled.

magill248:

I stand corrected. It was a long time ago, and I thought I remembered the number as being rather high. still, I'm sure it's something cops think about and hope to prevent.
