A sheriff's deputy says he would have liked to have seen the men's faces when they realized the mistake.

The men would have liked to have seen the sheriff's deputy's face when he realized stealing lunch is not much of an indictable offense.

Stealing lunch is very indictable, assuming they used a weapon...

In defiance of a registration link, the story:

"Associated Press
Jul. 28, 2004 10:30 AM

LOCKPORT, N.Y. - They thought they were getting away with loot. Instead, they got lunch.

Two men face robbery charges after showing up at a tractor supply store at closing time. Authorities say the pair demanded the night bank deposit bag, grabbed a blue bag from one employee and got away.

Turns out the bag was the employee's lunch bag, not the deposit bag. The men were arrested a little while later.

A sheriff's deputy says he would have liked to have seen the men's faces when they realized the mistake. "

What are you talking about? Corned beef is going for like $125.00 an ounce on the black market right now.

2004-07-29 01:07:47 PM
It should still be attempted robbery. Doesn't really matter if they got the lunch or the loot.

2004-07-29 01:08:14 PM
why did the worker still have his lunch at closing time?

2004-07-29 01:09:39 PM
He still had it cause his Momma packed him PB&J, and he couldn't find a willing trader.

Robbery is still against the law, last I checked. If they were armed it'll go even worse for them. Either way, it's pretty funny they just grabbed the first bag they saw. That's why they're criminals; they're to stupid to get a job.

a yummy sammich is worth doing time.

2004-07-29 01:11:55 PM
Why did they bother asking for it if they were just going to grab it anyway? And why not check? Just assuming that the bag you grab is full of money... sounds like we've got a budding supervillian in our midst.

2004-07-29 01:12:48 PM
if you're the crook, do you eat the lunch when you've opened the bag? I think if it were me, I actually might.

This was in my hometown and I can believe it.

Isn't this a repeat? Hoe did this get greenlighted? Is FARK running out of news stories? Doesn't anyone else see this? Am I taking crazy pills?

Bwahaaaahaaaahaaaa. Was their cousin the mastermind who tried robbing the gun store??

2004-07-29 01:21:02 PM
Either way, they got away with the bread.

why did the worker still have his lunch at closing time?

The lunch wasn't in the bag anymore, he was jsut taking the bag home to use the next day.

maybe you're thinking of the guys with the fishing pole that stole some actor's car by getting the keys through the post slot?

/run on, Sentance!

2004-07-29 01:30:16 PM

Colored lunch bags? Does this dude have a different color for each day?
I can only assume his underwear have the days of the week on them as well. Then again, maybe his Scooby Doo lunch box was dirty.

/I would have gotten away with it if it weren't for those meddling kids.

2004-07-29 01:32:20 PM
I hope he got his lunch back.

2004-07-29 01:32:37 PM

A sheriff's deputy says he would have liked to have seen the men's faces when they realized the mistake.

"And you're welcome to print that", he added, "Wait 'til the guys see it in the paper. I'm always cracking jokes like that."

Why not? At least you get something for your troubles, plus you destroy the evidence.
