I think I saw Michael Moore eat a couple of the delegates, so the ratio is sure to go up.

2004-07-27 03:51:32 PM
Obviously this is all part of the vast leftwing media conspiracy.

2004-07-27 03:54:46 PM
15,000 media types and yet the broadcast networks hardly show any speeches. Last night Fox News talked over all but one of the prime time speeches. I'm sure they will be appropriately quiet during the GOP Convention.

Meanwhile, A Convention day in Pictures and snotty remarks.

2004-07-27 04:05:35 PM
And we'll come out of this with a bunch of stories about horserace and nothing about policy.

2004-07-27 04:06:01 PM
Damn liberal media at it again

2004-07-27 04:06:20 PM
So what? The media way outnumbers the number of players at the Super Bowl, World Series, Final Four, etc. And by a much greater margin. The conventions are the Super Bowl of politics. And until any news comes out, they'll just be writing about themselves.

2004-07-27 04:08:26 PM
I sure hope nothing newsworthy ever happens in trouble.

Because if the media decides to outnumber them we'd have a serious food shortage on our hands.

2004-07-27 04:09:03 PM
I liked Clinton's speech.

/don't like GW bush but want a reason to vote for Kerry.

2004-07-27 04:09:07 PM
How ironic.

2004-07-27 04:09:44 PM
I still can't figure out why these conventions happen. It's no mystery who's going to be the nominee, and no one in the general public gives a rat's ass about them. It's just costing tax payers millions of dollars for security and is basically so each party can fellatiate eachother for a week. This all is so friggen pointless...

2004-07-27 04:10:07 PM
yick. how frivolous.

2004-07-27 04:11:13 PM
Never underestimate the importance of fellatiation

"don't like GW bush but want a reason to vote for Kerry."

Sounds like a good enough reason to me. Frankly, you probably aren't going to find a better reason anyhow, 'cause Kerry's a farking jackass too.

/Clinton needs to run again

2004-07-27 04:11:41 PM
I pity you poor Americans. All candidate/US bashing aside, how DO you poor, poor people endure 6 MONTHS of campaigning? I'd be ready to kill myself after 2.

2004-07-27 04:11:59 PM
and this is surprising?

2004-07-27 04:12:17 PM

IT'S ALIVE!!!!!!

2004-07-27 04:12:24 PM
These conventions are a joke. When's the last time you didn't know who the candidate was until the final day? (Was it Reagan over Bush I?)

I mean, does anyone think that the Democrats are suddenly going to announce that they're going with Ann Coulter and Ron Jeremy as their candidates? Next month in New York will 50 Cent and DMX be nominated with a rousing speech from Carson from "queer eye?"

I used to be a reporter...the political conventions are no different than any other convention. People are there for free swag and the chance to patronize new and exciting prostitutes.

2004-07-27 04:12:28 PM
What's silly is that this is even being reported as a story. Must be an awfully slow news day. Then why am I wasting my time responding, you ask? Good question.

2004-07-27 04:12:37 PM
BRAVO Fish_bulb. Well stated!

2004-07-27 04:14:23 PM
I am with Mr. Coffee Nerves, these conventions (GOP&DEM) are big stroke fests, so like minded people can 'feel at home' with their ignorance.

/RAGE

[Tork Dog]
"stroke fests"

Shouldn't those be kept in private?

2004-07-27 04:17:15 PM
So, only TWO reporters should cover the presidential election?

Its an old tradition that predates today's instant access media. It gives the delegates a good idea who their candidate is (although I'm still trying to figure out what Kerry stands for other than he isn't Bush). In my opinion, its a big dog and pony show, and slap each other on the back fest. The dems shouldn't have whipped out the Clintons and Ted Kennedy. They don't represent mainstream America, or garner support from undecided voters.

2004-07-27 04:18:26 PM
So in other words DonkeyStrung......it's a big 'stroke fest'

2004-07-27 04:18:30 PM
The real news is the platform-writing meetings. These are where the meat of politics gets done, but it's out of the public eye because it doesn't make for good television. Basically, though, this year's Dem party platform seems to be a copy-paste job from the essays that have been on johnkerry.com for a while now. I expect the republicans to do the same.

2004-07-27 04:19:06 PM
Because we have so many reporters there is why we have such a broad and thoughtful range of coverage of the convention. This is also why they all camp out on the lawn of various families when tragedy strikes -- so America can judge for themselves who has the best interpretation of the family's "leave me the fark alone!" reaction.

in an attempt to threadjack, it looks that the neoncons have begun their assault on the next first lady, just like before. can't find enough reasons to bash kerry? turn your hate guns on his wife!!!

/they are mysogynists

Im That Guy,

What the hell is that? Why did you post that? How about a NSFW tag next time.

Thanks

2004-07-27 04:20:58 PM
moops, lets not make this a left vs right thing. They are both equal in the fact that they participate in these 'stroke fests'

take you flame wars elsewhere!!

/joke

And, for the first time, Arab satcaster Al-Jazeera will cover a U.S. political convention, renting a Fleet Center skybox. There will be no primetime coverage Tuesday of the convention by the broadcast networks, but Al Jazeera will have four hours of live coverage.

Yeah, and the Dems ripped their banner down, dimmed their lights so that the studio wouldn't be as noticeable, and forbade any of their delegates or other poobahs from being interviewed. It's almost like they fear an association being made. Hmmmm.

Not pleased to be labeled conservative, Republican or "neocon", I have to say that Kerry's wife is a perfect example of my worst nightmare. Imagine having to travel, much less live with her. Politics don't have that much to do with it -- she is just a psycho.

2004-07-27 04:21:51 PM
I love the convention this year. I work in Boston and drive in everyday. I was expecting a nightmare but it's been great. My 45 minute drive has been cut down to 15 minutes.
Go conventions!!!

2004-07-27 04:22:13 PM
moops,

If Ms. Heinz is going to insert herself into the process by giving speeches and granting interviews, then she is fair game. Same as anyone else.

It's a two-way street.

2004-07-27 04:23:33 PM
where's the obvious tag?

2004-07-27 04:23:43 PM
Neocons again. Just what is it about that term that engraves itself on the brains of people who can't formulate an effective insult to save their lives?

2004-07-27 04:24:36 PM
Uh-huh. So....?

It gives the delegates a good idea who their candidate is (although I'm still trying to figure out what Kerry stands for other than he isn't Bush).

I couldn't have said it better. While I lean toward Republicans on economics (although I'm proudly independant since I lean more towards Democrats as far as personal rights go), I can't say I'm all that enamored with the current administration. But so far there's nothing swaying me away except the whole "I'm not Bush" platform. This is the best the Democrats can do? Lame.

Neocons again. Just what is it about that term that engraves itself on the brains of people who can't formulate an effective insult to save their lives?

Yeah. It's pretty much the same thing as those cretins who don't understand anything about what the word "liberal" means who like to toss it around as an insult.

2004-07-27 04:25:58 PM

so far, I liked the speeches, in this order: Bill clinton, J. Carter, Hillary, and Al Gore. Yea, it sucks that the major news networks aren't covering this well, but thank heaven for PBS and chanell 44 here in Boston. They show all the convention you could ever want.

And as for dubya ... 5 more months ! 5 more months !

2004-07-27 04:26:07 PM
"Event is also expected to attract a large contingent from Hollywood, including a familiar group of Democratic fund-raisers: Creative Coalition co-chairmen Tony Goldwyn and Joe Pantoliano, Ben Affleck (news), Bianca Jagger, Billy Baldwin, Wes Craven, Janeane Garofalo (news), JOE PISCOPO, Susan Sarandon, Anna Deavere Smith, Christina Ricci and Harvey Weinstein. "

The election is officially over, Kerry has garnered the support of politico powerhouse JOE PISCOPO.

/BTW-how sad are you when you get mentioned in an articl AFTER Joe Piscopo?

2004-07-27 04:27:00 PM
You morons! This is a debate about conventions, not the politics, if you want a flame war go rip on Oprah and her love for food!!!

2004-07-27 04:27:22 PM
Gee, if 'liberal' is such a nice term, how come they're suddenly calling themselves 'progressives'?

I'd call myself a neocon if it were but true. Alas, I'm a paleocon/libertarian.

If that's what you think, you're not paying a helluva lot of attention. Tax cuts, the environment, medicare reform...there are huge differences between Kerry and Bush. The problem is that most voters are too stupid to get past the 24/7 war in iraq coverage to see that there are massive, massive domestic issues in which these two men are truly night and day.

2004-07-27 04:28:02 PM
Well, they had to fill up the stands somehow.

Yellow # 5, it's not over till Stephen Baldwin shows up

One question about the reinvention convention. This applies equally well to the Republican convention.

Since we all know that Kerry (Bush) is going to be the nominee, what the hell is the point of this?
The Dems say they stand for "the little guy". Why can't they take the millions of dollars that are being spent on this four day mutual masturbation celebration and give it to the poor people?
Why, if the Republicans are all about the troops and the police and the firefighters and such, can't they take the millions of dollars being spent on their convention and buy vests for the cops or body armor for the troops or new engines and equipment for the firemen?

/Still going to vote for Bush, lesser of two evils.

Nothing's over 'til Stephen Baldwin shows up.

Nothing.

... what are they saying about Laura Bush? Those bastards.

In a related story, Tiger Woods is still outnumbered by everyone else by about 6 billion to one.

2004-07-27 04:32:14 PM
I like the political-carnival atmosphere of the conventions, but I think they're useless.
I think all primary results should remain uncounted until right before the conventions. Then maybe there'd still be some suspense.
