can we all agree to what the real issue is here? i'm against segregation except when it comes to the movies. i hate going to the movies when black people are there. why do they have to talk? why do they have to bring their 10 kids to R rated movies? why do they show up fifteen minutes after the movie has started? i just don't understand.

I read the posts to about half-way down and no one has pointed out that talking on your cell phone is NOT breaking the law. It probably is movie theater policy to not allow it but it's definitely not a crime. Even without the blatant differences in the races of the cop and movie-goers, the cop is hosed. These people committed no crime (legitimate crime, not the crime of being rude) and yet a cop decided to be a big man and cause the problems. He probably would've forced some kids to leave the threater at a rated-R movie, but once again, that's not a law either. It's policy and it's up to the movie theater to enforce it. If someone gets hostile while trying to enforce the rules then you can call the cops. Until hostilities mount cops have no place in enforcing anything else than the law.

These two people will now be rich after having their rights stepped on by Barney Fife and I'm still asking: why not me? I could use that sort of cash.

Okay, to all you people on the cop - let's look at a few things:

1) "I followed them outside, past the free speech protesters" - hey, a protest! That wouldn't make the cop nervous or at all prone to err on the side of caution (i.e. mace) when dealing with people.

2) I know this will sound horribly racist, but in my experience, when a black person asks "why do I have to do $ACTIONUNFAVORABLETOSAIDPERSON?," they tend to yell and gesture a lot.

1 + 2 = 3) Yelling at a cop who is already nervous because of a protest is a great way to get maced "for no apparent reason."

No, it's not ridiculous. Everyday day I hear many ignorant stories about people and see first hand ignorance in action.

White, Black, Asian, Hispanic or whatever...ignorant actions and disrespect for others runs rampant in society. People are so thoughtless and self-absorbed, respect just goes down the drain.

The worst part is I see little kids who aren't even 10 years old carrying on these traits. I had a little kid run his scooter out into the street TOWARDS the center of the lane AFTER he saw me coming down the alley, he didnt move aside-he blantantly moved into my path. I yell at him to move out of the street..he replies "your not my dad you cant tell me what to do" . I replied, "yeah, i may not be your dad but i care about you getting hit by someone who would not have stopped or slowed down"..the kid is 7-8 years old.

I dunno, but when I was brought up I was taught to respect elders and those of authority. I also learned that when a car comes, you should move out of the way..not in it's path--it's BIGGER than you.

Ok. They deserved pepperspraying. The asshats at the theater I was in the other day deserved pepperspraying - they took at least 3 phone calls during I-Robot and passed the phones around to each other.

However, the cop overstepped his authority it seems - he gets mad, they get arrested. He did what we all want to do (the pepperspray) but cops have way too much power these days and are far too undertrained in using it.

i don't think that black people in the theater is a problem, it is a theater that is very close to a black neighborhood, and where most of the audience is black.

in the latter case is where you get the talking and yelling back at the theater. so i figure, if they want an interactive movie-going experience, good for them, i'll just go to another theater.

It sounds like both the cop (doing his Civic Usher duty... during the trailers) and the perps ( taking a call, then not taking it outside if it was a family emergency during the trailers ) were asses.

Here's a clue : in a situation where both cops and the perp are asses the cop wins.

I agree with those that have stated there is something missing in this article. It doesn't seem like we have the whole story.

But I also have to say that I have a severe dislike for rude people on cell phones. Example (semi long story ahead):
Waiting in Portland airport for flight to Vegas which was delayed for about 4 hours.
This women had a garage sale going on - backpack out, shoes off, books, papers and clothing everywhere around her and was discussing loudly on her cell phone, that her current boyfriend or whatever was just using her as a f*ck buddy, and she was just a place for him to deposit his cum. Went on for about 45 minutes graphically detailing things about their sex life that made people cringe, and children cry. My wife and I moved away, but just like a car wreck, we had to periodically come back to visit the scene. Couldn't believe how long this went on. After this people gave her a wide berth, and on a later phone call I chuckled when I heard her state to her current caller that people at the airport are rude.
People treat their cell phones like old fashion phone booths - it is not a private conversation! People around you can hear what you are saying.

If you need to use your cell phone, make it brief, call back later, or go to an area that is more private.

I don't give a damn who you are. A completely uninvolved witness says the above and you are an idiot if you think the cop is in the right in any way on this. This cop deserves to be suspended without pay for at least a week for this and should apologize to the couple for his actions.

And don't break out the "maybe they did something earlier" argument. If they broke the law earlier then their should have been witnessess inside the viewing theater, and he should have cuffed them at that time. The simple fact is that nobody saw them violate the law at ANY TIME until after they were pepper sprayed. At that point you could try to argue "resisting arrest" but I would coutner-argue "WTF, I just got pepper sprayed, of course I was writhing on the ground and difficult to get cuffs on."

Just to make this brief, I live in St. Petersburg, I see movies at Baywalk and I believe the victims' story.

The cop was way outta line using pepper spray in a movie theater. I would've used a taser.

The problem is here the lack of American common decency toward other Americans. Turn off your farking mobile and STFU. I hate mobile phones, especially in the hands of morons who feel the need to use them everywhere. That's why many of the people don't give a shiat about what the cop did; he sprayed a biatch who insisted on talking on a phone during a movie.
Note: I also hate it when inconsiderate people bring their farking kids, and 6 month old, to a movie and act like a total asswaste when the kid screams. Kids scream; its just how 6 month olds are. But asshat played it down until half the theater started telling her to leave.
