I was under the impression that EL already had a skate park. Color me wrong.

Mskatebmx, many congrats! We're about to start construction on a public park here in Louisiana.

Regaring the article... I love watching bikes, but they have some troublesome issues. One being that bikes tear up ramps and obstacles very quickly (steele pegs, pedals and sprockets poke holes into ramp surfaces). Another problem is weight/mass. Skating in a park and avoiding collisions with other skaters is one thing, but getting hit head on by a bike is another. I'm talking about severe injuries.

One last note regarding the issue: Skateboarders get hassled more than anyone else in the communty. It's usually illegal (thanks to loosely written city ordinances that can be defined by anyone with a badge)to skate. Skaters need a refuge that allows them to practice... its only fair. Bikes should be allowed to ride as well, but for one day a week or so. They do have the city to legally ride in.

I'm really excited that so much money has been put into this... I can't help but think about all of the unused (or seasonally used) basketball courts and baseball fields around here when they could have a park that gets used more than any other public facility ever.

Sorry for the babble.

Nice work. Especially in an era where more parks seem to be getting torn down than built up.

Now who's building the outdoor stage and concert area? ;)
