Yeah, I was wondering whether they used "child" to conceal the fact that the minor was in fact a year or two shy of whatever the age of consent is in that state.

Maybe I'm suspicious, but I have a feeling the police, prosecutor, and newspaper would be happy to publish the age of a 12- or 8-year old being filmed having sex with a 37-year old man. "Poisoning the jury pool? US? How can you say such a thing! We're just concerned with the Public's Right To Know that Mark Brown was having sex with a fourth grader! maybe she was actually watching the tape when the cops showed up? and either mistakenly thought she had stopped the vcr, or perhaps the cops pressed play (intentionally or otherwise)?

that might be a stretch, but she was already stupid enough to file a false report, and stupid enough to let the cops search her house for evidence pertaining to a carjacking.
