I'd let Britney and Christina bring my 1000 pound Hawaiian to life.

This guy's voice is incredible. Seriously. It really is unfortunate he died. Basically he weighed so much he couldn't breathe. His whole family was like that.

The song is on the "Meet Joe Black" soundtrack. I used it in a wedding video I edited for someone about 5 years ago. Great song.

I never read the article because I was assaulted by a woman screaming at me about getting a fake degree.

Is this what Wired has come to? augh.

Somewhere over the Rainbow/It's a wonderful life just plain rocks. It was on the soundtrack for 50 first dates.

Bruddah Iz fat.

2004-07-20 04:32:32 PM
This song was also playing when Goose died on "ER". I'm guessing that's where a lot of people heard it.

2004-07-20 04:32:52 PM
I had no idea this guy was dead. Listened to his music once -- really good stuff.

2004-07-20 04:32:53 PM
A buddy of mine had his rainbow/wonderful world melody played as his first song at his wedding reception- very classy and sweet- just about brought a tear to my eye.

I'm so glad i know who sings this song. FOrgive me for being rascist or whatever, but I always assumed it was sung by an old black guy.

2004-07-20 04:34:01 PM
that's a huge biatch!

I was in Queens Medical Center in Hawaii 5 years ago, and the respiratory therapists were all calling "Iz" "Wuz", then they explained the process by how Iz went from a small oxygen mask, to forced air, to CPAP, to a 8 breaths per minute ventilating machine. Sad stuff, painful end for such a great musician.

Johnny come latelys "finding" this song...heard it nearly a decade ago.

Hollywood can't make a death scene or a departure scene without busting out this song now...

2004-07-20 04:37:12 PM
Also in "Finding Forrester"

2004-07-20 04:38:05 PM

I think you might be referring to the original version of "What A Wonderful World" recorded by Louis Armstrong who, in his later years, was indeed an old black guy.

2004-07-20 04:40:35 PM
Well at least someone beat me to "I'd hit it...."

2004-07-20 04:40:49 PM
I'd hit it with some Slim-Fast!

/didn't read the article

2004-07-20 04:40:56 PM
He not really dead, he's pulling a Tupac, and will sell more records "dead" than he ever did alive.

sounds like it might be painfull for a great doctor, or brick layer for that matter, too.

Loved his versions, but I have a special fondness for Eva Cassidy's versions of both songs as well. She also tragically passed away before her time.

2004-07-20 04:41:22 PM
Great song and singer; sad ending.

Bruddah Iz serious NHL goalie material.

Even as a corpse.

2004-07-20 04:43:35 PM
I thought this was just another "Wesley Willis" but apparently this guy could REALLY sing!

2004-07-20 04:43:40 PM
Bout time Iz gets his props!

I first heard his Somewhere Over the Rainbow/Wonderful World cover on the first ever eToys.com commercial (Jesus, remember eToys?). The instant I heard it I fell in love, and busted my ass to find out who did it. The guy is amazing, and the song still makes me misty. =)

2004-07-20 04:44:27 PM
I first read that as Buddha is. They almost look the same. Right?

I wouldn't go so far as to call the brother fat, I mean, he's got a weight problem. What's the attractive and successful African-American gunna do, he's samoan.

[/close enough]

Forsythe P. Jones...

Cassidy's version of "Fields of gold" better than the original.

2004-07-20 04:45:47 PM
no, no, I've only heard his rendition of "Over the Rainbow" on the e-toys comercial and "Meet Joe Black" I dont think my mind is big enough to imagine a giant hawaian singing it though so I just naturally figured it was a friendly old black guy who I would want to be my grandpa...

/wishes Bill Cosby were her grandpa

2004-07-20 04:45:52 PM
Very bad artist. Saw him live one time (1995), he couldn't even sing a whole song because he was so fat he couldn't breathe.

Infact the song mentioned in the article (and so loved by the posters here) was the only one worth half a cent and it was a rip-off/rip-off medley.

2004-07-20 04:45:53 PM
Wasn't he in Shallow Hal?

2004-07-20 04:47:16 PM
Even dead, he still possesses infinitely more talent that either of those two skanks could ever hope to have.

When you make this a staple of your diet, things get a bit weighty.
