If you're quick, you can get a pint of lager down before the Guinness is ready.

See, isn't this just typical?
Only the Scots and Irish could turn a thread about BNP Racism into a discussion of how fast you can knock back a pint, whilst waiting for another pint.

I don't know about beating women, but you can burn priests daughters if they prositute themselves.

"And the daughter of any priest, if she profane herself by playing the whore, she profaneth her father: she shall be burnt with fire." (Leviticus 21:9)

The major parties are trying to slide Britain into Europe without a real debate -- much like the admission of many Eastern European countries into Nato and the EU.

Well, the debate about Europe has been going on in the UK since before 1972 (the year the UK joined the EEC, which went on to become the EU). The debate about the upcoming European Constitution is another thing. The wording of the proposed Constitution has only just been agreed upon by the EU member Governments, so the debate about it can only really start now.

Traditionally, the UK has decided on such things without a refferendum, which has obviously led to resentment from both Euroskeptics and true democrats, as they feel rightly disenfranchised. However, this time the Labour party in the UK have pledged to have a referendum on the Constitution, so the final say of the UK's participation in it will be with the UK electorate. This is a new and welcome departure for the UK, and will hopefully ensure a proper and comprehensive debate on the issue. Ireland, and some other EU states, have always had referenda about EU treaties, and think for any country a referendum as opposed to a parliamentary vote is the best way to go.

Anyone else work out that Gremlin is Irish??
No? Thought so... she keeps it well under her hat.
Come on girl, a few more cliches about the wonders of Guinness and hurling and the GAA and the 'Fields of Athenry'.
Listening to you makes me embarassed for the land I left 4 years ago.

I think you're confusing Ireland with North Korea.

Then, on that same basis, why would the BBC choose to report on the racism in a UK political party which represents less than 1% of the electorate?

Because they are the only political party that are demonstrably racist?

I welcome the BBC's report but I do wonder why they are obsessed with groups such as the BNP and never investigate the hate crimes being perpetrated by those of an Islamic faith.

I don't think its fair to single out the BBC for this. When was the last time you saw a documentary by anybody on this subject? Perhaps there is more than enough anti-islam feeling stirred up amongst Sun readers to go round.

2004-07-15 08:11:44 AM
Actually, the BBC have been reporting a lot on purely Muslim schools recently, claiming they work against integration.

Probably you are right Yahweh. I should not have said that. Still can't really stomach the place for more than a few weeks in the summer. Am not from Dublin/Cork/Galway where I come from it is still quite poor relatively speaking and extremely nasty when you get under the "lovely white washed exterior". Drink, violence and hatred....Plus it all gets a bit "Ooh well the priest said he will speak to the bishop who knows the manager........"
/.... not missing it but probably being very unfair.

I wouldn't blame anyone if they hurled after that.

Oh! Oh! Can we play guess the county? I'm going for Offaly although I'm trying desperately to avoid the obvious by not going for Limerick.

Hey, your experience is your experience. Personally, I'm from and live in Dublin, and things are going pretty well for us here. I also spend a lot of time in Ennis and West and North Clare, and again, things seem good there on the whole. But I've certainly been in many parts of Ireland I wouldn't want to ever go back to, let alone come from.

Your reply reminded me of Glencolumbkill in Donegal. A beautiful, idyllic and scenic village on the coast with a sandy beach surrounded by mountains. But with no jobs, violent, bigoted and ignorant youth, (we were constantly referred to as "dirty southern bastards") and nothing to do in the place but drink. Funnily enough, it was that the parish priest saved us from getting the crap kicked out of us by the local scumbags. Our "crime" was that a local girl was talking to us.

What does John Cleese know anyway?

Yahweh
Would agree with you there, places like Youghal and Clonakilty and Schull are the same, though I only ever visited there briefly for a day or so. As a rural type myself I can emphatise to a certain extent.

Yahweh fair point and again sorry for my outburst and LG really apologise for the stupid comments. And you guys were getting close. A small town in Leitrim that most people may have heard of but dismissed as no way it could actually exist. Begins with a D and ends in shanbo.
Still have nightmares.
Don't know where I got "lovely whitewashed exterior" from...Architecturally place is a bigger dump then culturally....

Thanks for the link. Pouring the can into a glass is exactly the same as any other beer. In the bar though isn't there a spoon or something they use to hold under the tap?

Wow! Finally I meet (albeit virtually) someone from one of my so called 'rumour' counties.
I call them that because whilst I have seen them on the map, I've never meet anyone from there, and neither has any one I know so we assumed they were 'rumoured to exist'. Marvelarse.
So you wouldn't recomment a vacation there then ; )

Drumshanbo is situated in the heart of County Leitrim, in senic woodland and on the shores of Lough Allen, one of the major course fishing centres in the country. It is easily accessible by rail, road or river. With a population of about 700 it provides a friendly atmosphere for the visitor and there is an abundance of self-catering accommodation and Guest Houses, Pubs and modern Supermarkets.

Ooh lovely. From Drumshanbo.net
Copied and pasted by the way. I can spell scenic.

Didn't their governor & chairman have to resign the last time the BBC tangled with a bunch of rabid, right-wing fascists?

2004-07-15 08:57:56 AM
CoolLukeHand

Ah! My maths teacher in secondary school came from there. I was there once when I was younger. My family rented a boat on the Shannon, and that was as far north as you could go on the river at the time. I remember it having a sign saying the population was about 600, and I think we counted 23 pubs.

Nah, they use a glass - it holds more beer.

I am going to lay the blame for any Jacking on the shoulders
of this little fokker.

He made it happen, him and Kilroy Silks' Pissed off Pixie.

2004-07-15 11:03:31 AM
Bizarre: Kilroy Silk may be a few coconuts short of a Pina colada

In 1992 he sparked fury with his comments about the Irish in the pages of the Daily Express.
However "Kilroy himself is by background and family Irish. His mother is Irish, most of his family are Irish. He could travel on an Irish passport, and I don't know quite what got into him"

Or maybe his mother and entire family are complete arseholes!

"It's still not illegal to criticise Islam", he said.

Wait 'til the Muslims continue taking over Europe, then it will soon be.

I can hear someone replying now: "Oh but the BNP would agree with you, therefore you are just as racist as they are!"

Well you're as racist as they are too, because both of you agree that 1+1=2.
