I like the picture of the fat lady who brought a pic to try and lure the tiger out.

Whoa, didn't I just see this?

2004-07-13 07:01:52 PM
Free rug!

2004-07-13 07:03:32 PM
Was it the guy with the shotgun in his pants?

/didn't read either farking article

2004-07-13 07:04:18 PM
Did I just get TF, or do the mods have beer goggles?

2004-07-13 07:04:40 PM
...and then barbecued and eaten.

2004-07-13 07:04:45 PM
In the testicles?

2004-07-13 07:05:59 PM
I guess negotiations didn't work out and they had to resort to violence.

2004-07-13 07:06:14 PM
Something is seriously wrong here...

/TFer, but not an admin, obviously

2004-07-13 07:06:49 PM
Maybe had a loaded shotgun in his pants... I hear that happens alot lately.

2004-07-13 07:07:19 PM
We all got a small taste of totalfark, but it has been snached away just as recklessly as it was given.

2004-07-13 07:07:20 PM
What happened to the *6* count them 6 articles on the normal Fark main page about the guy blowing his balls off with a shotgun? That was quality.

2004-07-13 07:08:30 PM
Your dog wants tiger.

/meh

2004-07-13 07:09:09 PM
So, he shot his nadz off and was sent to jail?

2004-07-13 07:09:33 PM
But the cat came back
The very next day
The cat came back
We thought he was a goner
But the cat came back
It just couldn't stay away

2004-07-13 07:09:54 PM
Just once I would like to hear of people actually tranquilzing an escaped animal instead of always having to shoot.

2004-07-13 07:11:50 PM
I can definitely afford the $5 a month for TotalFark, but to be honest, I'd rather stick with Fark light, than get six articles on the same thing...

2004-07-13 07:12:36 PM
/not really being inspired to be a TFer, but I gues membership has it's priviledges
//getting bored with it really
///why is everyone shooting their nads

2004-07-13 07:21:58 PM

2004-07-13 07:28:55 PM
Is anyone else seeing random totalfark pages instead of fark light? Maybe I missed the memo...

2004-07-13 07:33:56 PM
/back on topic...

How sad. I can all but assure you the asshat deputies didn't have to shoot the tiger...trigger happy bastards. Trust me, I live here. :(

2004-07-13 07:37:05 PM
I agree, horribly sad. There's NO reason they couldn't have used a tranquilizer!

2004-07-13 07:39:54 PM
- Bobo was owned by an actor who once played Tarzan.

Actually, I think Bobo was owned by the two trigger happy cops that shot him.

2004-07-13 07:42:28 PM
Somebody must have been really wackin'it to force god's hand on this one.

/not me, for once

2004-07-13 07:43:01 PM
so technically they killed a kitten???

2004-07-13 07:43:01 PM
Everyone who's sad about the cops shooting the tiger:

Fair enough, but the first person to blame is the goof who insisted on keeping great cats as pets. Not only is that practice inhumane, but it puts everyone else in the vicinity at risk, too.

Here in Ontario, we've had several recent incidents involving exotic animals; a tiger tearing a boy's arm off, a farmer's Eastern European wild boars escaping, and so forth.

2004-07-13 07:44:22 PM
BigRightRear, they probably were wackin'it to the Anna Nicole Smith video.

Big lady, big cat.

2004-07-13 07:45:31 PM
You do not name a tiger Bobo.

2004-07-13 07:45:32 PM
SoCalChris
Which pig was tiger bait?

2004-07-13 07:45:58 PM
When will people learn that large predators are not to be kept as pets?

2004-07-13 07:46:54 PM
They said on the news down here that BoBo had jumped on the cops cars and was aggressive. The cats that guy takes care of are problem animals too. It was really sad. This guy Steve is like a 400 lb'er 7 foot tall dude, and he was crying like someone wiped the floor with him. Poor dude, poor cat. It sucks.

2004-07-13 07:48:05 PM
It's anarchy: freakin' random acts of TotalFarkness

... or, maybe it's an uber-clever marketing ploy invoking a sense of imbalance in the universe

(dons tinfoil hat and goes in search of Ouija board)

"but the first person to blame is the goof who insisted on keeping great cats as pets. Not only is that practice inhumane, but it puts everyone else in the vicinity at risk, too."

Perhaps quasi-true: But the guy was licensed to keep these animals (permits, walls, enclosures, etc) and, in fact, has been asked by the State to be a caretaker of some, too. What *I* think went on is someone sabotaged the guys property enabling the tiger to escape. The area he lives in, once considered "out in the boondocks", is now being eyed as "prime real estate" for $500K homes. *I* think this was a "planned incident" to rezone significant portions of that area so the locals move out so that the Northeasterners' can move in.

MelGoesOnTour

I see. Thanks for filling me in. I still have something of an objection to the whole concept, but if the fellow was running more of a preserve (as the "being asked by the State" thing you mentioned implies) rather than a private zoo, I view it in a more positive light.

2004-07-13 07:58:37 PM
=/ poor tiger.

2004-07-13 08:02:11 PM
*Krizalid*

Yes, he didn't it more out of love than anything else. And, yeah, the guy might be seen as an oddball...but so what? He takes his animals to heart.

2004-07-13 08:08:18 PM
Krizalid:

This guy keeps cats and other animals that others abandon or should never have had in the first place. He has generally been a responsible owner, and not a bother to anyone. He had the one incident a year ago where this tiger bit a woman during a photo shoot. Other than that, nobody heard of this guy, and he has been there for years.

This guy has been there for like 20 years. Now that developers want to build houses in the area, he has become a "problem".

Note to developers: He was there first.

*ralanprod*

Thanks for the post: What you say is true. Now that most of South Florida has been filled up by people who move here despite biatching about how "everything is better 'up north' ", the developers have their eye on inland areas more and more up-coast. The guy who keeps his tigers had been, like you said, a virtual unknown for years (except to his neighbors with whom he had great relationships).

2004-07-13 08:15:57 PM
was it shaq?

2004-07-13 08:18:30 PM
At least the tiger didn't get roy.

2004-07-13 08:25:38 PM
Sipek played Tarzan under the name Steve Hawkes. He keeps another tiger, two leopards and a cougar on his property.

This farknut needs to have his other remaining exotic animals confiscated. If he's sufficiently negligent to allow one of his tigers to escape, then the others are capable of escaping as well.

I feel bad for the tiger that was shot but I don't blame the police officers. The blame rests entirely with this asswipe.

*arcas*

Trust me, arcas, this rings more of shenanignas than it does the guy being clueless. Seriously. It's not as simple as him "allowing" one of his animals to escape. His "problems" did not start until, mysteriously, developers began eyeing the area of Loxahatchee this guy has been living in for over 20 years (FYI...LOX is waaaay inland, in the sticks. Now that S. Fla is getting filled up, this former swampland is now looking attractive to builders of cookie-cutter developments...at 1/2 mil per house, minimum).

MelGoesOnTour--Having done a bit of business in Florida over the years...this sounds just a bit like the Good Old Boy Network going to work. Reminds me of the Condo Wars in the 80's...lots of dirty pool played in the Sunshine State, and just because the officer and the mayor are involved, don't mean it's on the up and up, and in the past, it's often meant that it's REAL dirty if those boys were involved...

2004-07-13 08:36:31 PM
arcas

I know Steve and have played with Bobo and the two were devoted to each other, they slept in the same bed for Christ sake.

Bobo wasn't a "wild" animal at all but a gentle creature that had been declawed,

Rest assured that had the cops allowed Steve to go in and calm the Tiger he could have led the poor thing back home.

The Tigers death lies squarely on the Deputies as they have a true cowboy attitude.

Like MelGoesOnTour said it had to be sabotage .

As far as confiscating the remainder of his other Cats why don't you go over to Steves house and do just that....I'll watch.

2004-07-13 09:02:52 PM
Too bad. This morning they were saying that the tiger is de-clawed and that they were hoping to either capture it through the help of its owner or tranquilize it. Shooting it was, obviously, a last resort.

/(Chris Rock on Sigfried and Roy's "tragedy") "Everyone sayin' the tiger went crazy. The tiger didn't go crazy. The tiger went *TIGER*"

*hubiestubert*

I 100% agree; that's the way it's been here for a long time...sad to say. I *grew up* in South Fla ever since Military Trail in Boca was considered being "way out west"! And these days it's almost the center of town (well, technically not since west of Military is unicorporated. But I'm sure you get my drift). A friend of ours has a palm nursery on F road out in LOX. It used to be the only thing you could hear at night was the animals from Lion Country Safari waaaay down the way. NOWdays he has a Walmart, Publix, Home Depot...you name it...within a 3 minute drive.

2004-07-13 09:13:28 PM
wtf is it with cops in the states. Join the goddamn military if you wanna play FPS video game and shoot at everything.

Of course the frigging tiger was aggressive. It was scared shiatless. Not to mention the fact that for it to show agression, the cops would have had to provoke it... say surrounding it with cop cars and the public and people with guns drawn looking agressively at it.
stay in your car. tell everyone to stay in their house, call the damn vet with some special K.

THEN arrest the asshole owner for allowing the cat to escape. No matter if it's his fault or not, he's responsible for it. If he had've been able to control himself and left the cat in the wild it would still be alive today and that shotgun shell would have been used on someone who deserves it, like a crack dealer or a child molester.

I am anti american... not against the people, you just have an evil government that is trying to rule the world. I"m Canadian... our government isn't smart enough for world domination. They just steal taxpayers money and have week long keggers... Unfortunately a certain percentage of your population that do crap like this give your people a bad name. If I was one to stereotype, this would give me more ammo. Seeing stuff like this makes me wonder if we shouldn't continue to destroy ourselves and let the planet go back to the animals when we all die.

On the cops side... just a bit... IF I had an 800 pound pissed off tiger lunging at me I would have crapped myself and probably passed out. Due to their training they SHOOT first and think later...

But then again... if I saw an 800pound pissed off tiger, i would have stayed in my car and not risked either life...
bunch of farking cowboys...

/me slaps all dumbass trigger happy U.S. cops with a large trout

Read a few more of the previous posts: There really *is* a real possibility that this was either (1) an act of sabotage to "incite" the county commision hellbent on developing whatever they can, or (2) a true "accident"...but one wherein the county (and requisite newspapers) overhyped what went on and sent out the SWAT tems rather than a veterinarian (et al)...in order to incite the "haven't lived here too long, have you?" recent "public" who are trying to move into available land that is "in the sticks". / Don't you get it? ???

2004-07-13 09:22:58 PM
You're all missing the point. I bet the tiger was delicious.

2004-07-13 09:33:51 PM
MelGoesOnTour:

I understand all that. And the US media are fearmongers too :)
I can totally understand and would believe that it was an act of sabotage. I work construction and deal with developers on a regular basis so I know how they work. This would totally be within their realm if they wanted the land bad enough.

But, he was the one who owned the animal. If it wasn't for him, the animal would still be in the jungle and the opportunity for it to escape and get shot wouldn't even exist.

I'm just completely tired of mankind's arrogance and thinking that we are more important than anything else on this planet.

I yelled at 4 old ladies today in the park where I was delivering some equipment. They were standing on the edge of a pond surrounded by cattails. A redwinged blackbird was on top of the cattails, annoyed at the old ladies who were shooing at it and yelling and trying to scare it away. I said " ladies, the reason the bird is bothering you is because you are uncomfortable close to it's nesting area and it's pissed off about it. You want it to stop swooping at your heads tryin to take your hats off, then get out if it's home" they moved 6 feet back and the bird relaxed again.
