Cool...yeah...cool

2004-07-13 07:08:49 PM
Why Hero?? This is what old people do before they die.

2004-07-13 07:10:14 PM
It's not everybody's thing, but I envy them. It's high on my to-do list, if I win a Lotto.

2004-07-13 08:09:34 PM
Holy...

2004-07-13 08:10:00 PM
hero? i only consider them a hero if they took some disadvantaged kids with them

2004-07-13 08:10:39 PM
You know you don't have a life when you deliberately travel the nation to watch baseball games...

2004-07-13 08:10:46 PM
yah, i'm calling bullshiat on "hero"

2004-07-13 08:11:58 PM
Dumbass tag more like it.

2004-07-13 08:13:33 PM
Aren't there better things to visit?

Visiting Mars would be better call for a hero tag. Ballparks. Honestly. I was hoping we only unhealthily obsessed about sports here in small town Louisiana, but no. My hopes are dashed. Bastards.

2004-07-13 08:14:14 PM
I wouldn't say BS on hero, but 'cool' would have been adequate...

What's not cool is reading an article on the web that says '...the couple's web site...' and it's not friggin' linked. What is the farking point of that?

2004-07-13 08:15:02 PM
err, lots of hot dogs?

When I grow up I wanna go on a tour of all the public crapping facilities in the continental US.

2004-07-13 08:15:22 PM
this is my dream. god help me achieve it. son would have to be home schooled though, dont know if i could do that would have to hire a tutor or something.....

/ah to go to all the ballparks.

I live next to Wrigley field in Chicago and they are right. Wrigley field SUX! The seats are tiny, the view sucks, bathrooms are a joke! The fans are stuck up! (dont you date swear!).. and the bars around there SUCK! No parking, traffic is a joke.

2004-07-13 08:21:35 PM
Sounds like an interesting retirement journey. Hero? No way in hell.

2004-07-13 08:21:51 PM
I worked for the Athletic Dept. at Arizona St. for a while and gave tours of the sports facilities there. One day I had to go out and meet a Vikings fan who was traveling the country in his custom-painted Vikings pick-up truck, getting his picture taken with his horned viking helmet and horn in front of them, and then loading the pictures onto his website so fans could follow his process. He called himself "Crazy Dan in the Stands." He was competing to be a second official "fan mascott" in the stands at Vikings games.

And his truck was all beat to hell. He'd made the mistake of being in Daytona during Spring Break a week earlier and some drunk college kids had taken baseball bats to his purple Viking mobile.

Anyway, crazy guy. Never found out what happened to him, or if he got to be a mascott.

2004-07-13 08:22:25 PM
Cool? More like sad. But it's nice to see a couple who have common interests I guess

Andrea Siscel, a retired medical technician, first suggested they visit all 30 major-league ballparks. Her husband suggested throwing in the 140 minor-league parks.

"It seemed pretty fruity at first," she said.

Good instinct.

/not a baseball fan

2004-07-13 08:22:40 PM
My dream too. Gotta run, the all-star game is about to start.

2004-07-13 08:24:30 PM
I can see the SPIFFY tag, but unless they personally saved each ballpark I don't think this rates a HERO.

2004-07-13 08:25:45 PM
Would be cool. If you like baseball. And overpriced beer.

2004-07-13 08:28:48 PM
I think this feat deserves a SAPPY tag!

Though I'd love to have the time and money to do something like this myself... I've often thought how great it would be to gallivant around the country and visit as many amusement parks as possible.

2004-07-13 08:31:06 PM
I've gone to all the MLB ballparks, I'm only 22 and allready have no life. (neither does my chick.)

2004-07-13 08:32:28 PM
gotta give these people props, since there are plenty of German tourists that have seen more of America than the average Joe.

2004-07-13 08:33:46 PM
i once thought about driving to all the major league ballparks...but then i realized i hate MLB baseball

college baseball is the better game, even though we've been a little subpar recently.

2004-07-13 08:34:27 PM
I wish there was a "ffejie's Dream" tag, because this would be perfect use of it. Only I'm only looking to visit the MLB parks. And ripping Fenway and Wrigley? What the hell? Clearly this guy has never visited some of the parks I've been to.

They should make the trip to Spring Training and see where the Pirates play - - that place is a dump.

2004-07-13 08:37:50 PM
Why is it sad? I would love to do it.

I said it before in a thread on here before, and I will say it again. Everyone has their own little thing that they get geeked up about. Mine is personally baseball. Some people get geeked up about cars, computers, the opposite sex, whatever.

I had to remind myself of this when I was at the Star Wars convention a few years back. I went basically because it was a free trip. Don't get me wrong, I like Star Wars, but not enough to go to a convention. Anyways, there were a lot of Star Wars geeks needless to say. At first I was thinking "OMG, look at these dorks". Then I reminded myself that these people probably liked Star Wars as much as I enjoy baseball.

Baseball is our national sport- Our national passtime. Joining together as men to reward the act of running around in a circle.I will thank you not to take its name in vain.

Yeah, I call shenanigans on the Hero tag. Cool, maybe... Spiffy, maybe... hell, if I was a mod it wouldn't have even made the front page.

But in any event, doing something you personally think is "cool" doesn't qualify you for a hero tag. If that was the case, I would be a hero for pissing in four states at once, at Four Corners.

2004-07-13 08:40:34 PM
BAh! you couldn't pay me enough to visit every ball park in one state. I hate sports! Now visiting every amusement park or water park in the world, now that's kick ass!

2004-07-13 08:41:07 PM
Hell yeah! They should do independent minor leagues next.

Go Minot Mallards!

2004-07-13 08:42:02 PM
Oh, and ladodger34 wins the thread in a landslide.

2004-07-13 08:44:36 PM
ladodger34, sure, granted... but do you think somebody who, for example, saw Empire Strikes Back in every state of the union, would deserve a tag?

i'm torn about that idea. the trip to new orleans would be nice, but the trip to shreveport would more than cancel that out.

gbejrlsu, I had my pocket picked in Shreveport.

What a crappy town.

shower_in_my_socks okay I am tried to make a link to this but I failed:

http://www.newsherald.com/articles/2001/03/01/lo030101g.htm

anyway it's the only thing I could find about crazy Dan in the stands, so, while I could be wrong I must conjecture he did not reach his goal. at least there's a picture of the truck

Speaking of which...Clemens just wrapped up his atrocious 1st inning All Star pitching.

$20 days that Piazza finally got his revenge by feeding bogus signals.

As long as they make it to Memphis and get to eat the BBQ Nachos from the Rendezvous.

Best...food....ever.

HyperX

As a Cubs fan I will agree with you on many of your points, but if you think the bars around Wrigley suck you must be a Mormon or something. If you can't have fun after a Cubs game in Wrigleyville you can't have fun anywhere.

First, it's Wonkette talking about "public hair" now this?

Who is greenlighting this stuff? The mods are either drinking to much or not enough.

//Let's see it Tuesday...probably to much

Waste of gas. Sports are meaningless.

2004-07-13 09:13:54 PM
I'd love to do this, what a great idea. Their site is not too bad - very detailed: all the prices for food, etc. Not too shabby...

2004-07-13 09:19:48 PM
I would say they are documenting this odyssey very thoroughly. Much more impressive website than I had anticipated.
