Just wait until after the Big One comes. Then EVERYONE will want to go see the ruins.

What's left of the WTC is the newest tourist destination- "Lets go see where all them people died."

Want to improve your tourist business? Crash a few planes into the side of skyscrapers.

It figures... living in the middle of nowhere, I'm about equidistant from both places anyways.

2004-07-13 11:02:12 AM
I think the #1 vacation spot should be Columbia, MO. We have lots of stuff to do here... oh wait nvrm I'll just go to sanfran - NYC sucks

2004-07-13 11:02:31 AM
what...did Orlando and Las Vegas fall off the map?

2004-07-13 11:02:59 AM
I got attacked on the streets of SF by some crazy guy hiding behind a tree he was holding.

I like NYC and SF. Am I some kind of freak?

In related news, terrorists worldwide pick New York as their #1 target destination.

Booya!

I'm going to L.A. this year. Both my mom and my girlfriend's mom think I'm crazy.

2004-07-13 11:04:16 AM
Why visit New York when you have a county landfill just down the street from where you live!

2004-07-13 11:04:19 AM
In your face, Cleveland!

It's all old folks and rednecks that come here. The tour buses are EVERYWHERE.

I'm in Springfield, MO. I've been through Columbia. I go to school in Rolla. Its the same all over this damn state, and St. Louis is too ghetto to want to go there anyways.

Thank god they're not coming to Vermont.

Worldwide, New York doesn't even make the top 5:

Top 10 Overall

The crazy guy behind the tree in SF is something of a local celebrity, from what I understand. I heard someplace that the guy's been making his living off of jumping out at tourists for around thirty years now.

Having vacationed in both a number of times, I've got to agree. S.F. is gorgeous, but there is nothing quite like N.Y.C. - and that's high praise coming from a left-coaster!

/Pac-Bell (SBC) is a better park than Yankee stadium, though

Been to NYC a few times.

I was born and currently live near SF, and have lived there several times and it is still my favorite town in the US.

Let me break it down real quick for you.

It costs the same to live in SF as it does in Manhattan.
winner? Tie

For your money NYC gives you sweltering summers and sub zero winters. SF gives you mild seasons year round but it's foggier and cooler than most other places in the bay area. It gets over 100 about once every 10 years and the humidity is always low.
Winner? SF

Ethinic diversity is about tied, with the exception that certian cultures have been established in NYC much longer. SF's chinatown kicks NYC's butt but Little Italy in NYC is way cooler than SF's Columbus street.
Winner? NYC

Are you a complete homophobe? Then stay in Texas or where ever the hell you morons are from.
Winner? Everyone but you

What's the biggest trend in NYC summer tourists? Christian teen missionaries! Just today I passed a group of teenagers wearing bright green t-shirts performing some sort of dance ritual in the Times Square subway station. They had invaded the hip-hop dancers turf. I smell gangwar!

Teen missionaries aren't exactly new, but I feel like I've seen more of them this summer than most summers in the past. Whatever happened to the self-styled Bible-thumping preachers that would yell at the passing crowds? Ah, good times...

Pac-Bell (SBC) is a better park than Yankee stadium, though</i?

This is a statement that could only be made by a crack head.

Good, stay out of California, Thank you...

2004-07-13 11:12:53 AM
Oh, I forgot to add. Pre-9/11 NYC was world famous for being the Paris of the united states. People are friggin rude and a proud of it. Since 9/11 everyone who lives anywhere near new york is an instant hero, congratz on that btw.

2004-07-13 11:14:05 AM
leshii: are you too afraid to travel through the crime-ridden streets of Richmond, VA to get to the airport to go see NYC for yourself? Because you clearly don't know what you're talking about.

Just seein' if anyone was paying attention!

Yankee and SBC are both kick-ass in their own way. Obviously, the history that is in the Bronx is unfathomable, but for sheer scenic beauty, its SBC hands down

I've been to both cities. For my money - I'd just go to Vegas and Mexico.

Dangerous_sociopath: thanks for your breakdown of the relative merits of each city. Frankly, San Francisco sounds great -- and I think a lot of New Yorkers agree with that (but hate L.A.).

new york holds no candle to a good beach...my beach of preference being the outer banks of NC. Why the fark would you want to go to some stuffy city for a vacation. Unless they dont specifically mean NY city...the finger lakes arent bad.

2004-07-13 11:17:45 AM
Sorry, NYC. Being named the Best City doesn't make NYC the #1 tourist destination in the US. That slot belongs to Vegas, baby.

2004-07-13 11:18:17 AM
NY sucks and A-Rods an A-hole!

Rabid Pirate: I wrote the headline. If you look at Merriam-Webster.com, you'll see that both "traveller" and "traveler" are correct.

I used to work as a copy editor, so I generally don't make spelling mistakes.

Ah.this list doesnt represent the most visited cities, but lists those cities that offer the best traveling experience, as rated by subscribers to the magazine. That explains why Orlando is not on the list.

When you're trying to get to work on time with all of the delays (farking 14th street) and a million people walking with you, you gotta hurry up. Standing there and gawking at the pretty buildings frustrates me so. Time is money. New Yorkers are very efficient.

Just stand away from the crowd, or don't travel from 7-10am.

2004-07-13 11:21:39 AM
SF's a great town, but...

Yankees, Broadway, The Met...

These vagabond shoes are longin' to stray right through the very heart of it...

/'New York, New York' is way cooler than 'I Left My Heart In San Francisco'.
