There is no cone on earth that can withstand the incredible dominant power that is HPZ

Driver should get a hero tag. Road crews are major league dickheads. It sucks being in a 4 mile backup so they can close a few lanes so one guy can drive a lawnmower on the median, and 5 trucks can follow.

/can't troll for shiat

Don't they have robotic cones these days?

People who live in glass vehicles shouldn't throw cones.

Why did I just assume he got hit in the eye with an ice cream cone? I am well aware of traffic cones. Who would throw away an ice cream cone? I guess I'm just worried about David Bowie.

Later that day, one of the construction workers was injured while tossing salad.

The only cone tossing I approve of involves salad.

In other news, I'd like to retract that statement.

2004-07-10 11:50:40 PM
Who the fark throws a cone? How does it even enter into your head to do that? I mean, obviously the guy gets points for creativity, but he's still a major prick who should probably be banned from driving and forced to work on a road construction crew for a while until someone throws a farking cone at him.

2004-07-10 11:55:32 PM
PennDOT deserves it.

I assume he was probably hella pissed because some moron transit official decided that instead of doing "cleaning" (or whatever supposed BS reason they are using today) at night or in the middle of the day, they close down 2 lanes of a three lane tunnel during the middle of the farking rush hour for no damn good reason so that the lazy and stupid transit workers can sit on their asses and do nothing for 5 hours while traffic slows down to a farking crawl and your normally long enough 45 minute commute suddenly stretches to 2 and a half hours as you slowly cook in your car, ruin your clutch with the stop and go driving, and go completely stark raving mad listening to the farking corporate radio and its almost endless amounts of commercial and inane dj chatter but who couldn't even manage to one thing right and tell the listeners about the huge delay going down that particular stretch of freeway.

But that's just a guess.

2004-07-11 12:11:24 AM
Almighty

So that's how you get that job. I've always wondered. I mean, sure, they have to deal with the summer heat and stuff, but I can't say I've ever seen a member of a road crew do any actually work.

2004-07-11 12:14:09 AM
Have to forgive the driver. His name is Beldar, and he was from France.

2004-07-11 12:22:20 AM
I would comment on HPZ's comment, but he has since retracted it.

Move along, nothing to see here.

2004-07-11 12:29:06 AM
Speaking as someone whose fiance worked for Penndot over summer break a couple years ago, that driver should be shot in the naughty bits. It's definitely going to make traffic move faster if he puts one of the workers in the hospital. I know traffic fines are doubled in construction zones, can't wait to see what they cook up for this farker if they catch him.

2004-07-11 12:37:47 AM
PennDOT's just pissed off that he woke the guy up who was sleeping in the truck.

Farkers have had the bypass in town here down to one lane for two months and I've *never* seen them out there doing anything. I thought we had relief as one direction was opened up completely for July 4 but alas the bastards closed it again.

Tell me why we spend $$$ to build four lane highways then close off two lanes for fun?

2004-07-11 12:42:52 AM

The cone in question.

2004-07-11 12:51:50 AM
Chucking a cone at a worker has never crossed my mind. I have however ran down about a 5000' strech of them in a rage before. A couple of years back they were doing a 2 year long REPAINTING of the lanes on Airline Hwy in LaPlace, LA. Middle of the day, running late, bout 15 cars ahead of me those bastards were laying more cones closing down ANOTHER damn lane. (leaving 1.5 lanes for roughly 25000 cars a day to pass thru). I lost my temper and started mowing down the cones they were laying. I did this for almost a mile before the road workers noticed and started coming for me. They looked pretty damn pissed, so I ducked down a side street to avoid getting either beat down by irate D.O.T.workers or ticketed by a pissed state trooper. Why did I share this with y'all? I have no farking clue... just drunk and bored I guess. Has anybody else here done something similar?

"A Liberty Tunnel worker was slightly injured overnight Wednesday when someone in an inbound car picked up a construction cone and threw it at a PennDOT truck.."

Hi. I live in Chicago, and worked on a road crew for a while some years ago.

We got paid an UNGODLY amount of money per hour, and were flat-out told by our boss to "...make sure you always leave something to do tomorrow..." In other words, slack off and suck the Gubmint teat for as long as you can.

Union Construction- like welfare, but with hardhats. Next time you get stuck in traffic because a bunch of idjits are taking their sweet time "fixing" something that probably wasn't broke in the first place, just remember--20+ dollars per hour, and it comes right out of your pocket.

/flame all you want to. I was there, I seen it with my own eyes.

DOT's of all forms are incredibly annoying, i hate how they are always shutting down lanes for nothing.

Injury's a new trick for a cone. Respond.

I DID NOT INJURE HIM!

/I, Traffic Cone

I, too, have thrown cones.

I was on my way to work early in the morning when a friend and I decided to stop for some breakfast at a Jewel. (supermarket) These other guys were going through the donuts and totally grubbing them up, it was nasty. Anyway we got unclinched ones and headed out to see that they were repainting the lot and had laid alot of cones.

Naturally we went on a 10 minute cone tossing, smashing rampage.

I have never in my life heard so many spanish swear words. good times.

2004-07-11 03:19:06 AM
Back when I was young(er) and stupid(er) my mates and I used to do drive-by cone-snatchings in the evenings. Just for shiats and giggles, you know.

One person drove, while the guy riding shotgun leaned out the window to grab the traffic cone/road marker as we went by.

You then either have the option of hauling the thing into the car so you can do something creative with it later, or follow through with the arm movement and pitch it at something.

We used to do laps of the same block, grabbingone cone at a time and gradually blocking off a completely different lane on a completely different road.

Irresponsible? Yes. Dangerous? Quite possibly. Funny as hell? We thought so. Were we right? Probably not.

[/nostalgia]

"They could have injured him very severely," said PennDOT spokesman Dick Skrinjar. "

This is a false statement of a type that's used frequently. If they could have injured him very severely, they would have injured him very seriously. In other words, if things could have been different, they would have been different. Reality only happens one way. Obviously they could not have injured him very seriously, because they didn't! Why do people have such a problem with reality that they have to resort to fantasy to try to sway others to their imaginary world?

2004-07-11 05:50:49 AM
memphmaniac, that is not a false statement.

Could implies possiblity, possiblity ONLY implies noncontradiction.

A cone at its speed was sufficient to have killed a person.

That action of the bad guy was enough to kill a person had the parts of the action not controlled by the bad guy have been a bit different.

In other words, throwing cones around puts lives at risk.

That's the message.

2004-07-11 06:28:03 AM
Anyone else like to *throw the cone* at Sally Wiggin?

I miss the drunken interplay between her and Don Cannon.
Those were great days, my friends.

I've submitted 5 articles since this one went up. ABout 6 hours ago.

I'm not saying they're brilliant...

But for fark's sake, this is getting a little bland. Next link please...

2004-07-11 08:28:04 AM
I chopped an onion in half at a speed sufficient to cut your hand off. Had your hand been there instead of the onion, you could've been killed. Chopping onions puts lives at risk.
