Ahhh emulators and their old games.
Great for 5 minutes, then you go back to your next gen console or PC and never look at the game again.

I don`t care what the "gameplay was much better back then" idiots say, killing an endless succession of sprites is utter shiat compared to Halo or MGS2 or something. Even the PS1 craps all over them.
Nostalgia value only.

The Gauntlet machine at Papa Joe's in Athens, Ga had a flat top which would safely hold four pitchers of beer. To the bartender: "Give us four rolls of quarters and four pitchers of PBR" (We ordered PBR because all taps were connected to PBR regardless of the tap handle - pays to have a buddy behind the bar). The only iffy thing was could you get anyone to make a beer run for more pitchers so no player would have to leave the machine..... And yes, Elf...is about to die........e.w.

John_H_Rand: That was Gauntlet II - it let you select which character each player wanted to be (so you could have more than one Elf - thus the reference to Green Elf). I thought it was a good improvement to the game - I used to hate getting stuck as the Wizard......b.t.

The phrase was just burned into my mind. =p

Don't diss the wizard.

Any Farkers remember the game Super Basketball? You started out against a college team and worked you're way up to play the Russians and evnetually team USA and a pro team I believe. I wasted many a quarter between it, Gauntlet, and Sinistar.

Ipecac: It was really the Valkyrie I hated being stuck with - but I didn't want to sound sexist. No disrespect meant to the Wizard.......e.w.

Fun game... Loved the original...
I'll pass on this one.

I prefer playing with myself. That is much more fun.

This sucks. Still haven't got it to work. Says I have a missing or corrupt file. Gee that narrows it down. Oh and I did find Super Basketball in the vault. If it doesn't work I say Fark it to MAMe!

Mame works great. Just make sure you have the correct rom versions to go with the correct mame version.

Electron_Wind: I agree, but the valkyrie is one of the better characters in Gauntlet: Dark Legacy on the PS2 amazingly enough...

Good lord... I put SO much money into Gauntlet into my youth that it was insane. I went crazy when the NES version was announced, then I went crazy (in a bad way) when I saw what the NES version turned out to be.

Krik81 - Sure, a lot of our love for older games is simply nostalgia. That isn't always true, however. There are still many older games that play just as well today as they did back then. River City Ransom on the NES, Pocky and Rocky on the SNES, Herzog Zwei on the Genesis, Mr. Pac-man in the arcade (so long as it is the hacked faster version), etc. The good games of every era live on forever, and will ALWAYS be good games, fancy-shmancy graphics or not.

Wizard was the best character to be if you were by yourself. Almost as powerful as the warrior, and with extra magic power could kill everything just by shooting a potion. And could shoot through corners.

The only way to get anywhere in this game in the arcade cost more than I could afford. My husband and I played this last night for a few hours.. kick ass! :)

shidoshi: Pocky and rocky rocks! I cant believe someone else knows about that game. haha I used to play it for hours at my friends house.
