(News-Observer)   In response to his flirtations with the NBA, Duke makes adjustments to Coach K's contract. Duke Chapel will now be known as the Coach Mike Krzyzewski Worship Center. No word yet on where Christ's picture will be stored   (newsobserver.com) divider line 42

I'm very pleased he's staying at Duke. If he left, Tommy Amaker might've been tapped to replace him and that's not a good thing for the Michigan program to have happen right now.

I pay no attention to sports of any sort; the only coach I know of is Coach Z.

M.K.: Ima get more money!
Duke: Wait! Yous gettin more money!
M.K.: Worship me!
J.C.: =(
M.K.: Delorted!

Very good use of the obvious tag. This was a blatant attempt at getting a bigger contract from Duke and the Duke students will flip the bill and still love him for it.

That said, the reign of K will start to fall as more and more kids get millions to go to the NBA. I can't imagine K saying anything to make some Soph say no to 10 mill. Welcome to the new and improved college parity!

Wait a minute...in the same place that Mike Krzyzewski coaches, they've even heard of Jesus?

Where's the obvious "Duke sucks" comment?

In other news, headlines will now consist of entire articles.

Good to have him staying. College basketball and young players need guys like Coach K to teach good b-ball skills and fundamentals.

/looks like Duke will be back no top this year.

While looking at his contract, Coach K realized he had 4 more years remaining on his contract with the Dark Underlord. Not willing to transfer contract to his west coast team.

I wish coach K would have left for the lakers. It would have given me great amounts of joy to watch him go down in a glorious ball of flames, much like the Hindenberg. A bonus would be the fact the Lakers would go down with him.

//Hoping for Kobe to be wearing Orange next season, and no I don't mean those awfull jerseys of the Suns

Wait a minute...I thought the coach stayed because his heart told him to.

/confused

I went to visit Duke once on college visit. I went to the student union, or whatever they called it at Duke. I ended up playing "NBA Jams" with Grant Hill. Swear to Krzyzewski. He beat me. I didn't end up going to school at Duke. I don't think I would have been accepted. They probably wouldn't like the way I write. That's all for now.

2004-07-06 10:45:59 AM
I wouldn't move to LA for forty million either.

2004-07-06 10:50:58 AM
So that LA job is still open? Sweet. Think I'll send in my resume. No basketball experience, but I like dealing with people, and play well with others.

2004-07-06 11:09:23 AM
Hey, Tarholes - this morning the LA Times was reporting that the Lakers are focusing on Roy Williams. Seriously.

Good for Coach Shejaosuehefsky. So he'd rather coach the best team in college hoops but also the group of future-NBA busts.

Go Duke!

I submitted this with a MUCH shorter headline.

Check out this Craptaculer letter a student sent to Coach K asking him to stay. Found this on WRAL.com:

I suppose that you've recieved a flurry of these sorts of emails, but I figured there was no reason to keep my hat out of the ring. Duke Basketball is the reason I came to this university, plain and simple. One of my essays was about Bobby Hurley's assist record and watching Thomas Hill cry his eyes out. Without knowing it, or perhaps fully knowing it, you have been integral part of the lives of hundreds of thousands of people who you've never actually met. We watch you coach, we come to Cameron and hear you speak (though we never bring tape recorders, because we always do as you ask), and most of all, we admire you. We admire you because you take kids from all over the country and you make them into a family that seems second only to your actual family in your life. We admire you because you taught us that five people together is a fist, while one person is just a finger. We admire you because you are just an old Polish guy in the dark, looking for some heart. And you always find it.

Like most all teenage boys, I used to stand in my driveway for hours and shoot baskets while pretending that I played for you. Most of this time was spent concocting more scenarios in which I could win the national championship for you by making half courters, three pointers, steals followed by layups, or some combination there of. I counted down to myself in my head, and if I missed the winning shot, the clock had stalled and I got a second chance. Around the tenth grade I discovered that no, I was not going to play for Coach K.

And then I got to Duke. And discovered that, yes, I am going to play for Coach K. I am going to be his sixth man. We hear about it on tv, how the Crazies are like a team member, and we think, sure. We're a team member as soon as we get a jumper. But then we get to Duke, and we watch players from all over the country stare wide eyed at us as their jumpers start to clang off the back iron. We get to Duke and we hear you speaking, imploring us to be louder, try harder, to give 100%. We get to Duke and we realize you are our coach. Not just the coach of our team, but you are also our coach, because you believe that we give you something no one else can and we know that you give us something that no one ever could.

Please still be my coach. I know that we can find more heart to offer an old Polish guy in the dark next year.

//makes you want to cry/NOT

You think you hear too much about the man... try living in Durham 5 miles from the place, working with Duke professors, and serving beer at a sports bar that features Duke games. Sigh.

What? No "Duke Sucks" in the headline? Mods are slippin' ...

2004-07-06 12:16:16 PM
Well K isn't a moron. No coach has ever made the jump, and he knows that LA is a sinking ship. Dook Sucks. GO ILLINI!!!

"College basketball and young players need guys like Coach K to teach good b-ball skills and fundamentals."

Yes, and they take those valuable things learned from him and stink up the NBA. K's style does not prepare kids for the NBA, how many busts will it take to prove this? Jesus all the McD AAs they've gotten and they've had about 4 averge-or-better NBAers.

Does Coach K work for the NBA? No.

Coach K is payed to help Duke win b-ball games, which he does a fairly good job of doing.

The one year he was out, Duke fell to the bottom of the ACC.

Damn. Us KU fans would have had some fun at the Dukie's expense if he would have left. Paybacks are a biatch and all that.

This is a great moment, cuz it is our only submission that has been accepted. Would like to thank the Academy, mom&dad...

yay for coach K.

2004-07-06 01:44:01 PM
Is this good for college basketball? Players are already skipping college for the pros but it's because there's no money in the college game for them. There is, however, money for coaches. I was personally hoping he would leave so that dukies would look like asshats playing on the "Coach K Court" after he split. You don't name a court after an active coach. Coach K Court will never sound quite as laden with tradition as Rupp Arena

Does this mean that Sportscenter won't be 75% about Duke and the Lakers? Cause I couldn't give less of a f()ck about either.

I know for a fact that Jesus doesn't frequent Duke Chapel because I saw a persian wedding there once. An imam even sang from the Qu'ran during the ceremony. No blue bolts or anything.

/just sayin'

what is it about Duke that makes half of Fark become whiny little girls? wow, a clean basketball team that wins a lot might have beaten your team. cry me a farking river you vaginas

Apparently, many people get more than a little annoyed hearing about Duke and/or Coach K and believe that they receive an undeserving amount of press coverage. Just imagine being a Duke student, having pride in the team and the coach, and having to hear "Duke sucks," or some slight variation on that theme, everytime you hear about Duke and/or Coach K. I'm willing to bit it's actually more annoying than what you folks are "suffering" through.

Go Duke!

2004-07-06 04:40:37 PM
he looks like a rat when he gets mad

/calls him Ratface rather than Coach K

2004-07-06 04:58:24 PM
"Duke has always taken up my whole heart," Krzyzewski said at a 5 p.m. news conference held at Cameron Indoor Stadium. "And no matter how good some other option was, to lead my Duke team with all my heart could only happen at this place."

Uh...anyone else think this is poorly worded? Could he lead his Duke team without all his heart somewhere other than at Duke?

/a college coach should be able to form coherent sentences
//coach k is a bad bench coach

2004-07-06 05:40:38 PM
dukechick, Vast

As a University of Maryland grad, I consider Duke University and all thinks associated with it to be nothing but cocks. That is why I despise Duke.

However, The Terps can and do beat the Blue Devils ;P

2004-07-06 09:08:30 PM
And as someone that has been raised in Storrs CT all his life, I'll just say that the only thing more annoying that hearing about Duke/Coach K all the time is still hearing about him even after the Huskies kicked their asses.
