hello

2002-01-21 10:25:10 AM
Hi

2002-01-21 10:26:05 AM
how are ya

2002-01-21 10:26:11 AM
Hi. Seems like a good use of the material to me.

2002-01-21 10:26:29 AM
I'm fine. How are you?

2002-01-21 10:26:54 AM
i agree

why did whoever tag it "asinine"?

2002-01-21 10:27:15 AM
Trout are freshwater fish and have underwater weapons.
Keep away from the trout.

2002-01-21 10:28:05 AM
I'm sure if the person who tagged this "asinine" wants some debris, he can still get some.

2002-01-21 10:28:19 AM
the scraps should be preserved for memorials and historical sites! blah blah blah blah.. god forbid it be put to good use. heh.

2002-01-21 10:28:34 AM
also stay away for NexR's ferral marmoset Clive.

fyi

2002-01-21 10:28:35 AM
Years from now, people will be auctioning off debris on ebay.com

2002-01-21 10:28:58 AM
wonder if the government bugged it first

2002-01-21 10:29:34 AM
I suppose the "asinine" tag means that somebody thinks we should save all the pieces and make a monument rather than actually get on with our lives.

2002-01-21 10:30:19 AM
I think we should take every single individual peice of debris and put it in a glass display case.

2002-01-21 10:31:07 AM
that's a lot of debris to save. where would they keep it all? perhaps the person who tagged it "asinine" has a really big backyard and wouldn't mind storing 50,000 tonnes of debris for the sake of America's posterity??

2002-01-21 10:31:42 AM
This seems ok to me. Not very deserved of an asinine tag if you ask me.

2002-01-21 10:33:34 AM
I don't get it either. Why is it asinine? It's a lot better then going and digging up the materials to make new steel.

2002-01-21 10:41:13 AM
NOT

2002-01-21 10:41:27 AM
What would be asenine would be QVC selling framed "commerative" pieces of the WTC. Some "limited editions" signed by WTC survivors... hmmmmm.....

2002-01-21 10:41:46 AM
Pretty grisly, considering the huge numbers of people that were pulped. I guess you just spray some of that stuff off and sell it?

ugh.

2002-01-21 10:46:41 AM
I wonder if they'll make some chinamen out of the pile of body parts.

2002-01-21 10:50:35 AM
nice.
"Here you go, ruined, haunted steel. Merry Christmas."

2002-01-21 10:52:20 AM
Hum, seems kind of crass to think about money at a time like this.

Hum, seems kind of crass to think about money at a time like this.

at a time like what????

four months later???

do ever want America back to normal or would you like to stay hiding under your security blanket crying yourself to sleep?

2002-01-21 11:06:35 AM
Hey, that sounds good. I'll do the crying-under-the-blanket thing. I like sleep.

2002-01-21 11:08:10 AM
I guess this proves we truly have a global economy, if it is cheaper to ship the steel overseas than it is to reprocess it here in the US.

I'm gone. Time to make the move back to the Ryukyus. Keep on farking.

2002-01-21 11:16:48 AM
Screw 'em. If India and China want the stuff and are willing to pay then more power to them. Hell, they can make IUD's and diaphragms out of the debris for all I care.

Sell the debris, make a buck. What could embody the entrepreneurial american spirit more?

2002-01-21 11:24:07 AM
Remember the movie World According to Garp? He bought a house in which a plane had crashed into because "the odds of it happening again are astrinomical."

Maybe we should use that steel in the rebuilding of the WTC. Hmmmmm......

2002-01-21 11:26:54 AM
I like the original part of this thread better. hola! Como estas?

2002-01-21 11:30:11 AM
Hossier - I like your idea. That's a great scene in Garp and I use that logic all the time.

i hope they're not making diaphragms out of scrap metal. ouchie

2002-01-21 11:30:21 AM
howdy

btw Infornography - after the attacks people were auctioning debris on ebay and ebay immediately banned it, now THAT is asinine

2002-01-21 11:32:41 AM
And I'm sure the primary concern wasn't really money. It's the fact that they have tons of debris that they have to get rid of. You can't just go dump the remains of two buildings in the local landfill, and imagine how pissed people would be if NYC used their favorite practice of simply dumping the crap in the ocean. Reprocessing is simply a lot cheaper than paying for that much landfill space, and any profit cleared isn't such a big deal because the NYC economy is farked right now (not that other places in the country aren't also).

2002-01-21 11:38:54 AM
I saw on the news last week where some of the victims' families were raising hell over the recycling of the WTC steel. What are they supposed to do with it? 1.5 million tons of debris is a lot of stuff to bury. Holy smoke, people, do you want it dumped in your living rooms?

2002-01-21 11:41:17 AM
I think he means asinine becuase it would be better to use the scrap as A.the part of the memorial they are going to build, or B. part of the new towers.

I couldnt agree more, that is what they should be used for.

2002-01-21 11:43:43 AM
Remember Scrappy-Doo? I'd like to kick that annoying little fur-ball all the way to Asia.

2002-01-21 11:47:07 AM
We must do our best to eridicate the whales. They are the vermin of the ocean.

There's no room for sentimentality in economics, sorry.
If you're willing to front the extra money it would cost to do all of the stuff you mentioned, like using 1.5 million tons of steel for a memorial, or deferring the cost of processing all of that steel in America where everyone gets paid a lot more to do the same jobs than in developing countries, then you are my hero.

2002-01-21 12:06:28 PM
The tabloids are gonna have a field day with this in a coupla years: "Cursed WTC debris causes planes to crash into Chinese and Indian buildings".

freakystyley

2002-01-21 12:09:56 PM
We SHOULD use the steel for bombs and pork tipped full jacketed ammo.

2002-01-21 12:18:27 PM
Is this because they're the only two countries who still allow building with asbestos?

2002-01-21 01:04:33 PM
Hey , I sent this link last week... wtf?

2002-01-21 01:14:26 PM
They should've sold the stuff on Ebay! I bet they would have made much more than the $120/tonne that they got from India/China.

2002-01-21 01:14:58 PM
simple enconomics: see Lord Watson's post. Add in the fact that the debris belongs to the insurers who are paying for the rebuilding of the loss who naturally want to get the most money possible out of the deal (read: selling the bulk). Somehow the victims have the right to the physical property? BS. In addition to monies from the various victim funds, most of the dead people's families are going to receive death benefits from their employers workers comp. insurers. I'm not trying to be callous, but what, do the victim's families think they should receive money from the sale of the bulk material as well? Get real.

If money is not their goal, it's ridiculous to think that the materials should be recycled here, where the cost would be paid by who? Yes, us. Some IS being kept for a memorial, the majority should be sold for recycling ... or dumped from the air on the guilty parties who caused the deaths.

funny, isn't china building that 300-story residence building soon?

If we put the chunks of wreckage to good use, then the terrorists will win.

2002-01-21 02:12:07 PM
