I'd like to say that I'm surprised but I knew that he would never seriously go to the NBA. The Lakers are a sinking ship right now and I'd like to think that Coach K is smarter than that.

Duke: have top prospects begging to play for you. If they piss you off, you get to kick their ass on back home. Good salary, adoring fans, lifetime contract.

Lakers: rebuilding phase. overpaid crybabies. management meddling. in a fight between player and coach, player might stay you might go. Glory if you get a championship, but that is reduced by the fires set outside the staple center.

A top college coach is gonna make as much as a pro coach.

I've made a career out of not liking Duke since they took out my Rebels in the early 90's,,, but i'm really glad he stayed because that villainous team always adds some drama to March Madness.

5-years $40 million to go to the Lakers but he chooses to stay at Duke to make $800k/year. Classic. Besides, unfortunately the Dukies are not going to be a great team this year by any stretch.

The only thing Duke sucked is the life right out of LA. I personally think Coach K is as good a coach as Wooden, Rupp or Smith, and hell, I'm a UK fan at heart.

Good, this means we don't have to watch another good college coach fail in the pros. It would've been nice to see the Lakers suck for a while, though.

Are you sure that Coach K only makes $800K/year at Duke? That seems ridiculously low, as a lot of college coaches are now making $2 million+/year.

Regardless of what Coach K makes at Duke, it's impossible to buy that amount of respect and celebrity at any NBA franchise. He's a god in Chapel Hill...he wouldn't even be a supporting player in L.A.

Big props to Krzyzewski for making, really, the only decision. Money doesn't buy happiness.

It's too bad he decided not to do it. Having the World Champion Pistons kick in the teeth of the Lakers and Coach Kruhzoooski simultaneously next year would have been wonderful. I guess the Lake-show will have to settle for their Motor City Beatdown with Rudy T at the helm.

Being a Tarheel, I hate Coach K, but he allows high school coaches into his practices, and he is a very exact person with a vision and a plan. He is good for college basketball, the ACC, and the NCAA.

And I am sure he doesn't have to wait for a table at any restaurant in the RTP area.
