Typo in the headline. It's not "ig" it's "iq." If it were "ig", I'd be jumping all over the domain name "www.thenewsherrifsan.ig".

The headline says ".iq"

Is a handover like a reacharound?
2004-06-28 05:01:42 PM
accordian to my friend here.. a "handover" is the rubbing of the top of your peener with her open (and well-lubed)palm while her other hand massages the shaft.

actually, i just made that up but damn if it doesnt sound plausible

"To me, having 'iq' is probably one of the most important steps toward giving Iraq its identity and independence,"

Someone needs to go outside, breath some fresh air, and get some perspective. Badly.
2004-06-28 08:38:17 PM
Jeffy Jeff, I think it's great that Iraqis have computer nerds too.
2004-06-28 08:42:18 PM
Well, there goes that idea. That would've been the biggest website since, um ... since ... hmm.

It's understandable, because they were funneling money to Hamas. And as we know, Hamas was bad.
2004-06-28 08:58:03 PM
iraq web activity? The B52's are on the way with bombing commencing in 5 minutes and counting ...
2004-06-28 08:58:42 PM
Hahaha... lovely.

In 1997, when Saddam Hussein's dictatorship was blocking the Internet, ICANN granted responsibility for the ".iq" domain to InfoCom Corp. In 2002, a grand jury indicted InfoCom on charges of funneling money to the Islamic extremist group Hamas.

I suppose that means the arabic versions of Zork and Planetfall won't be coming out soon either.

let the censureship begin!!
2004-06-28 09:06:05 PM
Why do the iraqis even care? We Americans dont even use a .us domain, and we're the most egotistical cocksuckers on the planet.

Did we already use up all the good .com's?

OH, and don't forget Link

Why not let Network Solutions take it over.... it'll give them a whole country they can send demanding letters to, spamming, er, hawking their wares.

You've got to be kidding! Do really think a murderous thug like John Negroponte is going to Iraq to just be an "ambassador" you are nucking futs.

Negroponte is the new American DICTATOR of Iraq. Is job is to control the population through intimidation and violence (sometimes via the puppet, Allawi) while ensuring that the flows.

You know whats so strange about this (and most news articles in general, it seems), is that the real story that the headline addressed was buried all the way at the second to last paragraph of the whole story. WTF??

You would've thought that the meat of the story, so to speak, woulve been at the top. WTF???

Hear I am reading, thinking, "ok, now where does this say anything about any company that has these url's at all?" And its all the way at the bottom.

"In 1997, when Saddam Hussein's dictatorship was blocking the Internet, ICANN granted responsibility for the ".iq" domain to InfoCom Corp. In 2002, a grand jury indicted InfoCom on charges of funneling money to the Islamic extremist group Hamas."

Why at the bottom??? WTF??
