Please fulfill my fantasy of doing something wonderfully destructive with those Meredith Brooks CDs. I always hated that song. Hated it!

2004-06-24 11:02:53 AM
The RIAA. Is there anything they can't do?

That song was nominated for a Grammy? That's it - I give up. People are morons.

2004-06-24 11:05:31 AM
I still hate the RIAA.

Getting rid of stock they'll never sell, and using it to pay off their settlement. Slimey. They're also slimey enough to count these as 'lost sales'.

They are the slime that slime wipes off the bottom of its shoes.

2004-06-24 11:07:00 AM
I would shove them up the RIAA's collective p-chute.

2004-06-24 11:07:11 AM
Has anyone heard a peep out of her since that album?

Way to go RIAA, keepin' up with the times.

I guess they couldn't find enough Kid-n-Play CDs.

310 copies of Will Smith, "Willenium"

My students give me cd's with songs like
"I'm gonna get me a shotgun and kill all the whities I see"
and "Highway 40"...

They save "biatch" for after the grades are turned in.

I guess I'm alone on this, but I really like that Meredith Brooks album. Not to the point of playing it over and over and over, but once in a while, I like it.

2004-06-24 11:11:53 AM
Looks like they were trying to get rid of old, unsold albums.

And by doing it, they'd be doing more themselves a favor by relieving themselves of that large debt to America (chyeah, right) and lowering their inventories.

Meh.

2004-06-24 11:12:28 AM
If I remember the settlement, the two sides agreed on exactly which cds would be sent out, but I thought they would go to public libraries, no mention of school libraries. I've borrowed lots of excellent cds from the public libraries around here.

2004-06-24 11:12:31 AM
C'mon, there has to be some copies of "Safety Dance" by Men Without Hats that they could give out.

/Yep, I just put that song in your head, thank me later when you cant get it out. And on that note, how 'bout "Come on Eileen"? there's another song I just put in your head. Have fun.

My Me Poem Sun Fun Poem by Jessica Smithson, Mrs. Biggelton's, Kindergarten Class

I like the sun.
The sun is fun.
One thing I know
is that that I don't like snow (and I am a lying biatch)
And how do I know?
Cause nap-time song-singer woman and bad uncle tells me so.

2004-06-24 11:13:04 AM
I would prefer to receive my settlement in cold, hard cash. Small bills, please, in one of those cool metal suitcases.

2004-06-24 11:13:15 AM
Any word if they've got William Shatner's greatest hits?

2004-06-24 11:13:55 AM
Ah the RIAA... we're stealing from you because we're not organized enough to just kill you.

2004-06-24 11:14:47 AM

What about all the Devo albums just going to waste? I know they have some of those left over.

2004-06-24 11:17:09 AM
i wonder if they'll claim this obvious dumping of excess stock as a charitable donation and deduct it from their taxes

2004-06-24 11:19:17 AM
RIAA: We're working hard for a better tomorrow. Well...we're working hard for our better tomorrow. You? You're pretty much screwed...theif.

2004-06-24 11:20:09 AM
What a bunch of a**holes.

2004-06-24 11:21:01 AM
Back in the '80s, there was a short-lived late night music and variety show that featured a segment called 'Kill that Song'. Each episode, an annoying song was selected and placed in a tape player. The tape player was then subject to various creative demises while playing the song in question. I seem to recall a sushi chef with meat cleavers chopping up "Yummy, Yummy, Yummy"; "Sunshine on My Shoulder" being fired into the air and shot at; and "The Candy Man Can" being crunched by a crane-type machine in a garbage dump.

That would be a fine use for any Meredith Brooks and/or Will Smith cds, I think.

"48 copies of "Scary Sounds for Halloween" from Martha Stewart."

I don't know why, but I found that selection rather amusing.

2004-06-24 11:21:34 AM
Now those are cds I would have expected to see at someone's yard sale or Goodwill pile. And laugh uproariously that such a cd was ever made. I wouldn't even deign to put dog poo on those cds.
dog poo? not sure where that one came from.

2004-06-24 11:24:10 AM
paranoidandroid Thanks, man. I was gonna go off about that, but now I don't need to.

2004-06-24 11:25:11 AM
Ebay? Somebody out there has to want it... maybe...

2004-06-24 11:25:54 AM
The RIAA makes themselves look better everyday, that they do.

2004-06-24 11:25:58 AM
I just love how they valued the CD's they had to send out, as punishment for setting artifically high retail prices, were valued at the artifically high retail prices.

2004-06-24 11:26:17 AM
I didn't think it was possible for me to hate the RIAA even more, i guess you should never say never. Its so damned odvious that they are just unloading the crap they cant sell. I mean...cummon, 310 copies of Will Smith, "Willenium"....are you farking kidding me, i would burn them and take pictures to send back to the RIAA.

/major asshatery

2004-06-24 11:26:18 AM
Hahahaha! "84 copies of an album by rhythm-and-blues artist Samantha Mumba". Sorry about her, she's from over this end of the pond.
I'm not sure how well-known she is in America, so just to fill you in: She's an Irish singer who put out a few moderately successful singles in the UK then, for her second album, got moulded into a generic US R'n'B diva. Then, in a masterstroke, they tried to market her in America.
The phrase 'Selling snow to the eskimos' springs to mind...

2004-06-24 11:27:39 AM
Next thing you know these "teacher's" will use the song Ironic to teach irony.

2004-06-24 11:28:03 AM
356 copies of "Staying Power" by Barry White? Kids gotta learn how to make sweet, sweet love down by the fire sometime.

2004-06-24 11:29:30 AM
Further proof that these guys are a-holes. And In my opinion, these CDs still have an inflated price. I wouldn't take those CDs for free. I mean the RIAA will just be saving on the fees required to put those CDs in the dump.

But this does explain why my local library has so many goddamn Yanni CDs. Get out of town you freaky hippie.

2004-06-24 11:29:45 AM
"48 copies of "Scary Sounds for Halloween" from Martha Stewart."

/pretty damn scary to mee

What the hell are eyeteeth?

"Whether or not we considered it 'good' was irrelevant," Schultz said. "There was a whole collection of Gene Autry albums. My husband would've given his eyeteeth for those."

2004-06-24 11:35:20 AM
Damn you, nothingyet!

and I'll raise ya a Stray Cats "Rock this town".

2004-06-24 11:36:51 AM
For those of you unfamiliar with the Lyrics of Big Punisher

Come one come all if you wanna brawl
Im the mighty thor
clotheslining m*****f*****s like steven segal
cause all your gonna get is the casket
That' it? That's it.

And with all the Big Pun CDs they get, they can distribute one per student.

/ridiculous

"each sound made by martha with some part of her body!"

See, now that's maybe what makes her CD different from that generic Halloween Sounds CD everyone else has. Now, I am somewhat curious. That might be a CD worth checking out.

2004-06-24 11:37:16 AM
well at least the get Greatest Hits of 1971 >

well i'd rather my kids learn about the Five Man Electric Band in school than out on the streets ...

2004-06-24 11:37:36 AM
Yeah, we know who Mumba is. And y'all can keep her, too.

2004-06-24 11:38:39 AM
I say they hold a big revel fire in the center of town.

2004-06-24 11:39:06 AM
costas

The phrase 'Selling snow to the eskimos' springs to mind...

Don't you mean 'selling yellow snow to the eskimos'?

The RIAA is just one farkin' huge colostomy bag!

2004-06-24 11:39:20 AM
Good stuff. Still not buying cds. A-holes.
