Why don't try to instead seek peace on Earth, so let's just nuke the whole planet. Then we will all never have to worry about terrorism ever again.

Every time there is something like this, the wannabe deathcamp guards come out of the woodwork as for the moment they know it is okay to show to the world what real monsters they are. You are no better than the terrorists, and in a way you are worse than the terrorists, at least they have the balls to do their evil in person, you want mass murder but you don't want to soil your hands with the deed.

The most tragic, ironic part of this whole story is that there's a huge farking Typhoon slamming Japan and South Korea now that has been doing so for several days, and that it is unlikely that most people over there really don't care what's happening in Saudi Arabia right now, what with their homes beset by massive flooding and winds gusting at 120 mph.

Nice PR move, terrorists. If you've waited a week, somebody in the country you are trying to intimidate might have at least heard what you were saying.

We created Osama, and to some degree, Saddam.

More importantly, Soviet expansionism created Osama and, mostly, Saddam. The CIA did back the Ba'athists in the 50s because Qasim was a commie. Eventually, like most of our meddling of the era, it bit us in the ass. Saddam was a big fan of Stalin and Iraq became more of a Soviet client state than it was one of ours. Our client states get cool American weapons, not soviet ones.

Reagan's backing of Hussein in the Iran/Iraq war was more about killing Iranians than supporting Iraq.

The world is a little more complex than your B/W reasoning alllows.

So you are saying we should bear no responsibility for the monsters we create and unleash on the world?

Quite the opposite in fact, I'm glad we've begun cleaning them up. I'm sorry, would you rather we sent a note of apology?

THAT particular change of position is analagous to FDR deciding that, gosh, we don't know where Hitler is, and we no longer care, even though we're still at war with the Axis powers, so he can just go on his merry way.

sure, if the nazi army was defeated and his country was occupied by the allies hitler was in a mountain bunker somewhere with no power over anything except a tape recorder.

and you are begging the question by assuming that we stopped looking for him. have we? probably not. but he's not high on the priority list because we have priorities that are more dangerous.

or are you opposed to flexibility in military operations and insistent on rigid conformance to a plan?

Normally when I hear someone calling to turn the entire are into a glass parking lot I think, "What an asscrotch." My days of thinking that are done. This "Religion of Peace" needs to taste a few Weapons of Peace. The sooner the better. I hate Bush more than I hate horny fat chics but if that assfoot wants to go after these guys all out and leave no one standing, I'd support it, but I still won't vote for his ass in November.

All you guys calling out "revenge" on the Iraqi people, I offer this analogy.

Think back to elementary school.
Some kid did something bad, like, say break a window or something. Maybe 5 kids out of the 30 in your class knew who did the deed, but had no intention of "ratting" on the perp, either due to being "honor-bound" or intimidated ("Me and my buddies will make sure you pay for ratting on us!")

So, the teacher decides to go the easy way and punish the WHOLE CLASS. You get a week of detention, or get to miss out on a field trip.

Remember how you wound up absolutely hating that teacher for punishing you for something you didn't do or even know about? Remember, like the kids in your class most people in Iraq have not a clue who the terrorists are, or are subject to reprisals.

Well, now, think again about that hatred you had for that asshole teacher. Even by some technological miracle you somehow manage to contain your "glass parking lot" within the borders of Iraq, you will have many more millions from Saudi, Pakistan, Afghnistan, Palestine, Yemen, Kuwait, Libya, Egypt, Turkey..hating you for punishing innocent "brothers"...hatred, the fuel for intolerance, bigotry and eventually more of the terrorism you are trying to stop.

Think again. Remember how you felt about that teacher. You are breeding terrorism.

Somebody give me a short list of their (terrorists) most beloved leaders who are currently in captivity by the US or any other nation.

I used to think that we should turn the place into a glass parking lot, now I think otherwise.

we should extricate our troops from Iraq first and foremost. then, assemble those from the deck of cards we've already captured, put them on TV, threaten to hack off a limb if they don't turn over bin laden in 3 days. 3 days later, bye bye left leg. let him bleed and moan a little bit on air, then fix him up with our doctors.

two weeks later, same guy same scenario...bin laden in three days or else...3 days later, cut off the right arm. little moaning, bleeding then fix him up with our doctors.

continue until you have hacked off all four limbs of every living member of the deck of cards. for the sake of symbolism, we'll let them keep their heads. if unsuccessful, deploy special forces to locate and kidnap any new leadership that develops and continue process until they give in.

we could even offer AL Jazeera a live, 24 hour web-feed from the poor guy's hospital room so Al Qaeda can watch him suffer. yea, that oughta do it.

You don't believe Osama was CIA trained and funded to commit acts of terrorism against the Soviets in Afganistan in the 70s?

Of course I do.

We didn't train him to specifically fly planes into buildings,

Thank you. Like I said, you're making stuff up.

but we taught him the specific brand of terrorism he is using on us.

What, taking out our airplanes with Stinger missles?

Are you denying this?

Some of it yes, some of it no. Your posts are a few facts and a lot of fiction. Thank you, Michael Moore Jr.

Good intelligence and small scale military operations consisting of 10-20 soldiers in several countries are how we are going to beat these not. 135,000 troops in one country is going to do nothing but weaken our homeland defense.

Welcome to the new world order. Europe has thrown off the yoke of Christianity as I am sure 95% of the Farkers not only encourage but admire as a model of what the United States should be doing. However, we are seeing in Europe that people have a need for some sort of spirituality and since Catholicism has pretty much screwed the pooch, people are turning to Islam in a big way. Not only that but Muslims are emigrating to European nations as quickly if not quicker then Mexicans are emigrating here. What people do not realize that have never studied religion before is that being a peaceful follower of Islam means you are directly going against 25% of the teachings of the Koran. Believe it or not, the terrorists are following the real teachings of Mohammed and that is why they are tolerated. The lukewarm peaceful Muslims understand the terrorists are doing what they should be doing and so support it. Much different then Christianity where fringe groups are not looked at with awe and respect. Nowhere no how in any teaching of Christ does it condone killing of abortion doctors. As a Christian I do not harbor deep respect and admiration for these people. They should be punished to the full extent of the law. Period. That is the difference and this is just the beginning. Wait until the EU is controlled by Muslims. You think things are bad now. Just wait.

You are making the assumption that we ARE installing a puppet government in Iraq. It seems to me that we are doing the best we can to create a govenment composed of many of the factions in Iraq, Shiites, Sunnis, Kurds Etc.

While I have little hope that these groups can actually play well together, I hope that they prove me wrong.

The situation does require a broad military presence to bolster the new government until it can stand on it's own. After that (hopefully) happens, do you think the American public would allow those forces to stay?

For those saying Muslims approve of these beheadings, there are public condemnations in other countries that are not published here. I am a writer and I am in a listserv with other writers. A couple guys that are working over there post articles from the front pages of Islamic papers that I've seen myself. They get a lot of play over there but we don't see them. If you're not reading public condemnations from Islamic religious leaders, it's because editors aren't printing them. Or, they don't consider it "big news" and it gets buried. You can find them online if you dig and I believe a couple of Farkers posted some links above.

Who knows where this quote comes from?

"Much difference! Much! Sometimes one is bad. One steals, one kills when fighting, one takes a ship here and there, but what one does is done in heat, it is done sword in hand against other swords, pistol against pistol, fist against fist. You are a fighting man. You understand this?"
I nodded
"I am bad, mon ami, but I am not evil! I am a theif. But never have I killed just to be killing! Never have I held in contempt a human life! Never have I tortured, never have I abused the helpless!"

I think some of you should read this and consider what it means.

"You neocons need to realize that no matter how many of these terrorists you kill, you're ALWAYS GOING TO CREATE MORE IN DOING SO."

I disagree. Killing terrorists can never hurt. The problem is when we kill civilians, torture prisoners, detain innocents indefinitely w/o legal representation, etc., etc. If we could find and kill Zarquawi, Bin Laden, other big name terrorists, we be showing future terrorist recruits that even the most powerful terrorists can't hide from justice. Unfortunately, we're not doing that right now.

He's being held captive by the American liberal movement. The longer they hide him, the worse Bush looks. Also, the knives that were used for the beheadings were furnished by the liberals - same motive. There is also a facet of the liberal movement that dresses as U.S. soldiers and sodomizes Iraqi women and children, again, so that will make the Bush administration look worse and worse. Every soldier that dies and every civilian that is slaughtered, provides one more step in the path to remove Bush. So quit condemning the acts in which you truly support. I know that getting Bush out of the white house is the single most important thing in the world to you, and human life is but a simple pawn in which to make it happen.

My previous post (forgot to timestamp) was intended for you as well.

[People act as if the United States is blameless for 9/11. But we created this mess, directly *and* indirectly.]

osama declared war on us way before 9/11. he and his followers are solely responsible for their actions.

You seem to forget that Osama was CIA funded and trained in the 70s. We created him. We taught him out to be a terrorist. This makes it our fault. If we train lunatics to blow up Soviets, it's our own damn fault when 20 years later they turn on us.

[We trained Osama to fly planes into Soviet buildings when the USSR tried to control Afganistan. Then, 20 years later we try to economically dominate the area and get surprised when he does the same thing to us?]

i wasn't surpised that the Taliban hated us. they pretty much told us they did. 9/11 was surprising, though.

Why? Do you doubt our own CIA? Osama was our guy. We trained him very well. And we're very good at training terrorists/freedom-fighters.

[You would think we would have learned our lesson that we shouldn't mess around with other nation's problems unless we have a pressing and urgent need.

if terrorists would stop messing with us, we'd stop interferring with them.

Do you think they mess with us because they're bored? They mess with us for a REASON. For the SAME reason, in fact, they messed with the Soviets.

look, we aren't belgium. we're the last superpower in the whole freaking world. we have to act to protect the world's economy from nutcases. we can't retreat from foreign entanglements.

Whe do NOT have a mandate to impose our economic and political philoshophy on the rest of the world. The only mandate we have is to monitor human rights abuses and nukes, and other than that, protect ourselves. Not protect the world. Nobody assigned us the job of policeman, and from what I understand, the world doesn't want us in that role.

look at it this way. we're the last sober driver in a tavern full of drunks. people start fighting, it affects the whole tavern and we might get a mug smashed in our face. better to interfer and stop the fight.

But we STARTED the fight. And until we realize how that happened, we will continue to START fights. War benefits only the rich. Maybe that's the reason Bush isn't pushing the "why did this happen" issue.

I don't suppose it has anything to do with the irony that his first words ("I call on all nations..." etc), which were supposed to be serious and fraught with political meaning for the whole world, were then coupled with the childlike and inappropriate for the moment glee of "Daddy, watch what I can do!"

It makes it feel like he's saying, "Y'all go do the dirty work, I gotta finish the back nine."

albo-

I keep hearing that Al Qaeda has cells in this country, and is planning an attack before the election. They attacked Spain earlier this year. They are a clear and present danger, and NO other priority is higher, according to our Homeland Defense. Bin Laden is continuing his leadership, continuing his financing of the operation, and remains their key source of inspiration, figurehead or otherwise.

I haven't heard of any Iraqi attacks planned for this country. I know of none before, either. I know of none ever occuring in this county, nor of any serious allegation of one for the future.

So, for the simple mathematical equation:

Al Qaeda = actual present danger to US.

Iraq = no danger to US.

Conclusion = Uh, yeah, I guess you're right, we should change our priorities away from Al Qaeda.

habraham:

Um, no, not really. The Iraqis just want you to get the Fark out of their country. Remember--not a single 9/11 hijacker was from Iraq.

Neither are the people doing the beheadings, or flying planes into buildings, or for that matter most of the people causing trouble in Iraq now.

We pretty much have two options. We can kill the bad ones and hope enough of the good ones realize what their fate is before they convert to being bad ones. Or we can surrender and die.

2004-06-22 02:51:25 PM
The problem is... if the US succeeds and a government of the people becomes a reality in Iraq, all the militant extremists who were thriving under Saddam are screwed.

I mean... how is "Kills well with others..." and "Experience with small explosive devices and carbombs" going to land you that phat stockboy job at the fancy new Wallmart that just opened up next to the crater that used to be Bhagdad?

Nice sentiment from the folks who feel the Korean soldiers will raise some hell in response to this murder, but the sad news is that ain't likely. While Korean warriors had a fierce reputation in previous engagements such as Vietnam, the current South Korean populace is folding like a $2 suitcase in the wake of the hostage killing. The Korea Herald now says 70 percent of Koreans favor a complete pull-out from Iraq, and most legislators are getting on board with protesters demaning a reconsideration of the deployment of 3,000 ROK troops. They are cutting and running like Italy and Spain before them, sadly. It's too bad. I was looking forward to some new Korean Tiger and White Horse Brigade stories featuring the ears of victims strung on necklances!
