"... Man with large stone with square hole is quoted as saying 'That ain't nothin', look at my rock!' Local meterologists say that you should check with the meterologists in Florida... we are not sure... it could be hail."

What size would these hailstones have been before baseball was invented?

Baseball sized hail?

Ironically, I'm suring being in a "baseball sized hail" storm would be far from boring.

2004-06-22 09:36:22 AM
Well, here's some hail from a storm I chased last year:

2004-06-22 09:36:44 AM
The roof of a Wal-Mart Super Center on the city's west side was damaged, forcing the 24-hour store to close.

Ha-Ha!!

I've got wild weather...IN MY PANTS!

2004-06-22 09:46:26 AM
Happened about ten years ago in Waco too. Killed every grackel on campus. And took out every car parked in an open lot.

2004-06-22 09:47:57 AM
"It's about to drive me crazy!!!" Oliver said. "I want to know what these big, cold ball-things are!"

Be warned, he's about to go crazy again...

Not from this storm, but I found this pic last week on wunderground...

Can't embed, so I will link ..sorry if there are any popups, I pay for them to not be there...

Baseball size Hail (pops)

Check that out

Take a look at Amarillo.com - we got farked up.

2004-06-22 09:52:13 AM
cicadas, rats, floods, droughts, fire, tornados and hail.
Let the smiting continue...

2004-06-22 09:53:08 AM
I was in a softball size hailstorm in Fort Worth (I think it was in '96?) Car alarms were going off everywhere; shattered windows; people running and screaming like it was dresden. That same night something like a dozen people drowned in flash floods. All of the cars parked on my street were washed down into a big pile in the next intersection. The weather in texas can be just terrifying. I'm glad I don't live there anymore. I'll take a blizzard over that shiat anyday.

2004-06-22 09:54:38 AM
Oh yeah, one other thing.

Baseball-sized hail falls in Texas... and nothing of value is lost.

2004-06-22 09:54:53 AM
So how many rednecks did it take out?

/More the better

*walks back under the bridge*

2004-06-22 09:55:44 AM
On the upside: Car dealerships will be having hail damage sales soon!

2004-06-22 09:56:00 AM
Why is such a big deal, you know all that will happen is that the Texans will hire the cheap Mexican labor to clean up the mess.

2004-06-22 09:57:02 AM
...and Texan men trample little boys to catch them. No hope for little boys that God hands out autographed hail paraphenalia.

2004-06-22 09:57:13 AM
I knew that storm looked pretty bad on doppler.

2004-06-22 09:59:13 AM
Wake me up when there is football sized hail... that might be more interesting...

2004-06-22 10:02:09 AM
Ahh, I remember walking out of "Day After Tomorrow", it was a foggy, drizzly night. I yelled "Look, it's snowing!" About 10 people actually said "No sh*t!" before starting to riot in the mall. Actually...no rioting, but they did do a double take.

2004-06-22 10:02:23 AM
But seriously,

Anyone from texas out there? Did it get you? Did you see them?

/wants eye witness account

2004-06-22 10:06:34 AM
I'm in Austin. All I saw was some rain

2004-06-22 10:09:29 AM
Bah, all our TV stations haven't updated their websites in several days....

Well, no hail pics, but here are two articles about the storm from the Amarillo newspaper. Not terribly exciting pictures though.

Luckily, our house apparently got through relatively unscathed with only 3 windows broken and dented gutters. (Our neighborhood is about 2 minutes from the Ford dealership mentioned in the first article, so a lot of other people around us were a lot worse off.) My folks said they had softball sized hail, but I haven't gotten to see their pictures yet, so we'll see.

About 15 minutes south of us, one of the storm chasers reported wind gusts of 130 MPH. Yeesh.
I'm vaguely sad I didn't get to see it all though. ;)

DC is the armpit of the world... hehe, and this guy is making fun of one of the better states in the Union. Nice. Asshat.

2004-06-22 10:10:41 AM
This is why I always carry my hard hat.

Now who's looking at who funny?!

2004-06-22 10:11:27 AM
I'm from central Texas, and no hail smited my house. Of course, Texas is kind of big, so what happens in my neighborhood may not be indicative of, you know, statewide devastation.

TO RECAP: Yesdog is fine. Stop your worrying.

2004-06-22 10:12:24 AM
It's because god hates George Bush. And baseball. But mostly George Bush.

2004-06-22 10:14:26 AM
bludstone: We have back yards. I do not know what backyard's are though.

2004-06-22 10:14:47 AM
Sounds like an ordinary day in Memphis, but without the barbeque smoke and gunfire.

.

2004-06-22 10:15:26 AM
Yep. We were in it. Lost one window, the roof and rain gutter has pieces all over the yard and driveway, and both vehicles have very noticable damage. We had golf ball to baseball sized hail for a good five minutes. There is foliage debris everywhere. Quite the site.

My insurance guy said that one area of town has all the skylights busted out. The newest Walmart a few minutes from where I live is shut down. Apparantly they have skylights every ten feet...and all of them are busted out. Water and glass everywhere.

I'd send pics, but I've not taken any yet.

2004-06-22 10:15:42 AM
The hail-sized baseballs are going to be raining down on the St. Louis crowd tonight as the Cubs whoop up on the Cards.

2004-06-22 10:16:48 AM
Yesdog
Smote.

.

2004-06-22 10:17:56 AM
Oh, if nobody has posted it yet, our local paper is going to have lots of pics and damage reports.

2004-06-22 10:19:53 AM
God hates Texas .... and so do I.

GNNR
Fine I'll bite.

Im fully aware of how much DC sucks. I live here. I make fun of texas, and florida, and about 48 other states. I'll let you figure out which ones I dont make fun of.

My humor is like the simpsons. I make fun of everyone equally. Including myself.

itsfiveoclocksomewhere

According to dictionary.com, both are accepted spellings. Nice try though.

2004-06-22 10:21:05 AM
Yes, God hates Texas... can we give it to Mexico now?
Seriously.. floods, droughts, tornados, hurricanes, monster hail. You guys get it all besides a good earthquake.

2004-06-22 10:27:22 AM
bludstone, I was going to say chess but I figured you didn't know how to play.

Dman33, Texas is a pretty big place. Different parts of it attract different kinds of weather.

2004-06-22 10:27:47 AM
Yeah, DistendedPendulusFrenulum, "smote", yeah, yeah. I just wrote "smited" because it frames my irrepressible, child-like sense of whimsey.

2004-06-22 10:33:01 AM
The roof of a Wal-Mart Super Center on the city's west side was damaged, forcing the 24-hour store to close.

Man, even god hates Wally World. Rock on.
