Whoa, what next? No reviews? Ugh.

2004-06-21 11:07:47 PM
Wow. What a deal. Why not throw in a free tub of popcorn. Butter is extra of course.

2004-06-21 11:08:32 PM
Using a camcorder makes for a crappy version, anyway. Rips of Academy screeners are the way to go.

Or so I've been told.

2004-06-21 11:08:48 PM
Who wants to watch some shiatty camcorder recording of a movie anyway? I'll wait for the DVD rip like normal people

2004-06-21 11:08:48 PM
pirates pirating the pirates of the carribean?

/got nothin. nothing at all.

2004-06-21 11:09:04 PM
I'm gonna keep my eye out for those facks, I hate those damn bootleg movies.

2004-06-21 11:09:33 PM
Do we get free refills for our souls?

They are easy to spot, they have an eye patch, a peg leg, and an annoying bird.

2004-06-21 11:10:06 PM
Movie studios should ante up a $500 bounty for naming any current movie worth pirating.

2004-06-21 11:10:11 PM
Wow, NWA, it's like we're two peas from the same pod...

2004-06-21 11:10:12 PM
Arr, there be pirates ta catch matey!

2004-06-21 11:11:07 PM
Saw X Men a few weeks before release. With asian subtitles. And lots of potato chip (sounding) chewing going on. And the videotape was pretty bad.

Odd thing, the funny parts were deathly silent and the "gory" parts were roundly laughed at.

Musta been the subtitles...

2004-06-21 11:13:16 PM

Nice, with the $500, you'll just have enough money to buy the medium popcorn and medium soda they sell at the theatres.

And please, for god's sake, I pay enough for the popcorn, could you not give me the burned popcorn that fills up 1/3rd of the popcorn ?!?!?!

2004-06-21 11:14:03 PM
There were gory parts in X-Men?

ToStupidTooCare, it's called Spider-Man 2.

Critch - what theater near you is currently showing SM2????

2004-06-21 11:19:05 PM
I'd do it. But only if I didn't have to wait 7-10 weeks for a check.

Of course, if I go to see a movie, I'm not looking for people with camcorders.

Congrats to those who RTFA, too. If you did, you'd know that you have to be a THEATER EMPLOYEE to get the $500.

Under the new program, co-sponsored by the National Association of Theater Owners, U.S., theater employees can qualify for the reward by catching camcorders, notifying the police and stopping the illegal recording.

I'd rather take the guy's camera and say "I get to keep this for not turning you in."

2004-06-21 11:19:49 PM
Supernova motherfarker!

2004-06-21 11:20:53 PM
Uh, you mean Mr. IF, there Critch?

2004-06-21 11:23:09 PM
The fine print: the $500 is only good at the concession stand.

2004-06-21 11:25:39 PM
I've never seen anyone with a camcorder in a theater, so it wouldn't apply to me.

However, a "Good Citizen Bonus" of $50 for punching the kid with the laser pointer sounds just dandy to me. This could be extended for the idiots who throw things in the theater, and those who decide that the movie experience would be lost if the entire audience didn't hear his commentary on the film.

I go to the theater to watch and listen to the movies, and not some douchebag who thinks his 8 bucks entitles him to be an ass.

2004-06-21 11:26:13 PM
They're lookin' for booty.

/I can't help myself, it's like a disease

2004-06-21 11:29:10 PM
Pumbalumbumba!

/Not Necessary

2004-06-21 11:33:01 PM
ARRR!

Once you get them, hang them HIGH on the mainmast!

/When is pirate day due???

2004-06-21 11:33:22 PM
Skinink: But if you get the large popcorn you can dump the crappy part out and get a free refill. Not that I have ever even gotten close to ever finishing one.

/Arrrr matey. When is National Talk Like A Pirate Day again?

2004-06-21 11:34:22 PM
I'd snitch. Going on Kazza and seeing the end result of some epileptic freak going to the movies with a 90's video camera instead of a stolen DVD screener is worse than finding a mislabeled gay/scat porn (At least a gay/scat porn is worthy currency on p2p when its named properly). Too bad karma would promptly rape silly me with a broken axehandle soon after.

2004-06-21 11:35:20 PM
No Disintigrations.

2004-06-21 11:36:38 PM
Talk like a pirate day is not until September 19th.

Arr, I can hardly wait.

Got thrown out of a Starbucks last year on talk like a pirate day.

Guess they don't like it when you tell them you will make them walk the plank for not leaving room for cream.

2004-06-21 11:37:55 PM
DonSlice, are you saying JangoFett pirates movies? I thought he just entered photoshop contests....sunnuvagun.

2004-06-21 11:39:09 PM
I saw one cam rip and decided that it was not worth downloading another one.

/utter_bastards evil twin

They have a sign on the box office of my local theatre warning against pirating the movies. But what's amusing is it has a big cartoon drawing of a pirate (with an eyepatch and everything) with a big NO sign over it.

We were thinking about showing up to see a movie in full pirate regailia and see if the turn us away.

2004-06-21 11:41:26 PM
I'm with UP_chuck on this one. I hate wasting my time downloading a movie, only to find out it was made by some retard with a $50 camera bouncing up and down on his enormous belly, while sitting between two screaming kids. I don't hate piracy, I just hate poor-quality piracy.

2004-06-21 11:42:50 PM
When I go to a movie I pay the extra 3 bucks for the VIP seating. There is only one place in town that has it (that I know of), but it is worth it. Big comfy chairs and there is a bar that you can get to as well.

2004-06-21 11:43:52 PM
Theater employees get nightvision goggles??? I'm heading over to apply right now!

2004-06-21 11:46:16 PM
Ahoy und immer eine steife Brise, beim Klabautermann !!!

2004-06-21 11:47:28 PM
I wonder if the theater employee turns himself in for taping the flick afterhours, he'll still get the $500?

2004-06-21 11:48:11 PM
However, a "Good Citizen Bonus" of $50 for punching the kid with the laser pointer sounds just dandy to me. This could be extended for the idiots who throw things in the theater...

But... but... I only throw things AT the people with lazer pointers and cell phones. :)

2004-06-21 11:48:19 PM
Badgers

I've seen those signs before, too, and was thinking almost the same thing. I'd walk up to the doors in full pirate gear, then stop and stare at the sign for a few seconds, hang my head, let out a saddened "Aaarrr..." turn around, and walk away.

2004-06-21 11:52:44 PM
Wow Utter,Thanks! http://www.talklikeapirate.com/
Hot diggity dog! So there really is a Talk like a pirate day!

2004-06-21 11:53:22 PM
According to them, bootleg movies cost them Millions. Ironic then that they can only cough up a $500 bounty. Me thinks they doust protest to much.

2004-06-21 11:55:10 PM
The MPAA seized 52 million DVDs and other illegal copies of movies in 2003, many of which began as recordings made in theaters during the first few days of a movie's opening.

And almost 100% of them being made outside the US.

"The rewards program is the latest in a series of efforts to stem camcording piracy, which the Motion Picture Association of America estimates costs the industry billions of dollars each year."

Snip.

...efforts to stem camcording piracy costs the industry billions of dollars each year...

At least they admit they're just wasting money...

2004-06-21 11:55:40 PM

RevJimJones: That's just too funny! Glad I wasn't drinking anything. I'm giggling like a tard now.

hang my head, let out a saddened "Aaarrr..."

Everytime I think about it I hear the voice of the sea captian from the simpsons.

2004-06-21 11:56:42 PM
Great! That's enough for an 40GB iPod!

2004-06-21 11:58:11 PM
I'd bust somebody for 500 bucks. But, if they pass laws to stop this, then the music industry would just use those laws to prosecute kids who rip music and/or share it online.

2004-06-21 11:59:25 PM
Am I the only one that got the connection to the bounty hunter. It was worth a good laugh. Thanks, DonSlice.

i agree.

2004-06-22 12:05:37 AM
I've caught two. Should've blackmailed them first

2004-06-22 12:08:00 AM

Arr. The MPAA be high, says I.

2004-06-22 12:10:12 AM
I have trouble believing they really lose that much money from these bootlegs anyway.

2004-06-22 12:14:33 AM
I don't have cinemas where I am so pirates are the only way I get to see new films.
Quality sux but they cost me about 60 cents for a copy.

2004-06-22 12:20:23 AM
But... but... I only throw things AT the people with lazer pointers and cell phones. :)

In that case, all is forgiven. Hopefully you're throwing something heavy.
