Irony would have been if she had been AT the rally (where one would presume they're be security to prevent purse snatching). Having her purse snatched while she was on her way to the rally just makes it coincidence. Think about it: if your car got stolen while you were on your way to have the alarm put in it, that's coincidence. If your car GETS stolen because the alarm made it easier to steal somehow, that's irony.
