educated -

I'll join TF when I finish taking care of more pressing obligations like a couple grand a month worth of back child support. Oh yeah, and when I can find work again, since I'm a laid off engineer from HP and a laid off junior exec for an oil company. I guess I have weird priorities.

And I already have a Gmail account, thenkyooveruhmush ;-)

It amazes me how much the media has publicized the "shortage of body armor" thing so often that people just keep regurgitating it back. I just got back from Iraq and the troops in my area (40 miles south of Baghdad) and those that I saw going north had the Interceptor body armor system.

If there is anyone that doesn't have the new body armor, it's probably the ones that are not in a direct combat area of operation (ie. Kuwait).

I'm gonna jump on the gmail bandwagon! whose giving invites? :D

many thanks in advance

I'd be a TF'er but I have a really lame, true excuse. I don't have a credit card and honestly have no idea how to pay any other way. I get offers for credit cards all the time in the mail, I'm about to just get a crappy Visa just so I can sign up for TF. I have a great fear of credit cards though ever since my mom ran up a $25K bill in like 60 days.

I won't go into the whole you need to build credit shindig because you have already heard it. However, you can ask your bank about a debit card. It works much like a credit card (mine has the Visa logo) but it's not credit; your "credit line" is your balance in your checking account. Amounts paid for by the debit card are automatically taken out of your account when you use it. Heck, it's gravy just so that I don't have to mess with the gas station guy when pumping up.

Goodnight :). It's kind of creepy that we are all getting along in this thread too. Everytime I hit F5 I expect to see somebody telling "Yo Momma" jokes.

educated and Norbert and Dagget -

Thanks. As it is, I keep busy trying to gently steer newbies away from getting banninated and such. And offering friendly advice, etc. I started lurking here in early 2000 and picked up my ID a little over two years ago - educated, in case you haven't looked, your account number is only a little lower than mine :)

Oh yeah. I also keep busy trying to find work. Unfortunately, since so many companies in Houston have either placed themselves in compromising positions that resulted in litigation or are engaging in layoff frenzies, the task is a bit daunting. However, I will "endeavor to persevere." (Chief Dan George in The Outlaw Josey Wales *grin*)

Get a checking account with a Visa/Mastercard debit card. Works just like a credit card. That's what I do, and it keeps me out of trouble. Can't spend what you don't have...

I think that is what I will do, I actually get the offers for credit cards because my parents have such great credit. The only time there was a slip up it was my mother going all extravagant, and the bill was paid off promptly. The cool thing about that though is you can still hear the 2,000 decibel pop of all the veins in my dad's forehead when he read the bills floating somewhere over the equator.

You do realize that in the morning this thread will have been modded. Anyway, *grin* about the Transformers reference. Let me tell ya, nostalgia is rose tinted glasses. I finally purchased all the episodes of Transformers on DVD and I haven't even watched half of them. The writing is so terrible and the animation is spotty.

I wouldn't sell them for the world though.

2004-06-20 01:51:25 AM
SpinStopper,
I disagree you CAN spend what you dont have.
The bank just charges you a flat fee of 35 dollars.
So i charged a 1.40 soda and got charged 36.50 for it.
I kept on charging like 6 times that week until i realized my account was empty and checked my balance and it was -150 cuz the bank never denied my charges. They just kept docking me 35 dollars each time no matter how small it was.

The same thing happened to my woman.

The moral of the lesson is you have to be financially responsible w/ debit too and know your balance and spending limits. But there is none of the interest problems w/ debit so i prefer it.

Methinks you made A Christmas Story reference.

Anyway, my biggest fear now is that since I don't carry much cash with me anymore (because of debit card), if I should get mugged, I'll probably get shot just because I didn't have any cash on me for the mugger to take. *shudders*

i know it's been said before, but if you really want a gmail address and can't wait for it to go public, invites are going on ebay for about $1 or $2...

that being said i got mine from another farker (sorry, i haven't got any invites yet) before the frenzy began...

gmail? that is for n00bs. I use a proxy server running linux redhat v34.5 with Dell tech support and a 486 DX2 66 mhz T1 connection. It also has a 172 digit IP address and 20 gigs of storage space. You can get more if you overclock it and put a water cooling system in there.
The spam filter rocks cause the email doesn't actually have an internet(http) connection. It's only for local networks, AOL executives, and hookers.
If you wanted to connect to the internet to recieve email from those outside your network, you'd have to buy a cisco router with USB 2.0 and Photoshop(cranberryzero not included). Then you'd have to buy a domain and the internet. Download all porn and enter your email address into every "contest" or "win this" or "free stuff/info" page. Don't forget to sign up for countless newsletters.
I also have a G7 Mac. I'm so cool it's not even a prototype yet. Gmail? more like goobermail.

/send me invite.....please

TedwardRoberts -

People have gotten Gmail there by offering sob stories, jokes, amusing anecdotes, pictures of dirt, amusing pictures, all kinds of things that don't cost anything. In many cases originality and/or humor can win the day. Don't give up so easily.

Okay, I made up the part about pictures of dirt. It's worth a try, though :)

x-mods are just a ripoff of the much more interesting Mini-Z from kyosho.

But as far as small and fast goes, I'll stick with my 540 powered Micro-RS4.

Man, this Gmail business actually has me frothing for an account, and I haven't even bothered with email in years. Those googles sure set a nice advertising word of mouth wildfire.

I hate begging, but just in case someone is feeling saucey: keenki(at)msn wouldn't mind getting an invite (my wife's getting tired of me using her account anyway).

Now onto the thread at hand, for anyone who is planning on getting one of these little cars, keep in mind that shedding cats and wiener dogs who love to eat little moving things are like kryptonite(?) for these things.

Zipzaps were hardly their first success. Perhaps their first fad, but Radio Hack has always been a prominent source of entry-level radio controlled cars.

As a kid, some of my favorite RC cars were radio hacks. I had a number of Tycos, but they werent of the same quality. Shiatty actually.

One particular RS car was designed logically much like a hobby car, with separate battery for the receiver and drive, and instead of running it on the designed 7.2v, which would run it at about 15 mph, I wired two 9.6v packs in series to the drive circuit, and WHOA, it was fast. But it promptly crashed into some bushes and caught on fire.

Fun times... :-D

Anyone else have this problem?
