I, for one, welcome our new microscopic overlords.

ETA 2006.

Two swarms of microscopic cometary dust blasted Stardust, according to a University of Chicago instrument on board.

The materials range in size from particles that could fit on the head of a pin to boulders the size of a truck. Several particles larger than bullets struck the spacecraft.

What?...how did microscopic dust become truck sized? or even bullet sized?

Haha I love this new fark.com cliche. Asteroids. Seems like every 3 articles is about asteroids.

I for one welcome our new cliche overlords.

Just wait til next year when NASA lands a probe on the other comet they're tageting. I bet the added gravitational pull of the probe will cause the comet to change course and crash into the earth. Game over for humanity.

I, for one, think this is some cool shiat.

I think it's amazing that we saw this flying by in the sky, and someone decided to aim a rocketship at it:

Just the fact that we can shoot a rocket to intercept a comet is amazing. But then you figure it's got a camera too.

Just when my mind can't get any more blown, they tell me it's COMING BACK TO EARTH with a bunch of comet stardust.

That's the frickin' future 21st century style that I've been looking for!

2004-06-20 02:24:01 AM
thinking about stardust, and all the potentiel kewl sci-fi scenarious (which would never really happen)

I remebered the outer limit episodes called (first 2 episodes of the series), now that show was better then twilight zone or tales from the crypt.

2004-06-20 02:25:38 AM

Also brought back by the probe....

2004-06-20 02:26:06 AM
2 mistakes in the above post, its scenarios(I hope so :) )

I meant to delete the "called", becuase I forgot the name of the episodes(too lazy to check it up).

A note to creationists:

Let's see your creation science powered starship do this, motherfarkers.

The Stardust spacecraft reached comet Wild 2 in January after a six-year journey of two billion miles.

That puts it at 38,051 mph...

Anyone want to photoshop a riced-out NASA probe?

Whoo-Hoo!
Got my cherry, boys!
I just want to thank the academy of admins for their recognition of my brilliance and hard work in achieving this milestone in Fark history.

I will now show you my tits.
(sorry, I got carried away)

I thought it was funny how in the article all the experts were surprised that their expectations were proven wrong by data.
I bet there were some fark-quality flamewars amongst these guys before the images settled the issue.

HagarTheHorrible: Heh, was that the same episode where the guy goes, 'survey says...', and points to nothing?

For some reason, I started laughing uncontrollably.

2004-06-20 09:02:16 AM
If that's the same comet I'm thinking of I saw the actual photos from the probe passing it at Nasa.guv or some other space website. It was a quick series of photos strung togather so that it looked like a grainy black and white movie but it was still very cool to see.

"Daddy, does God have feet??" -Dana Carvey

Actually, they look like prints left by Birkenstocks. Space might just be populated by gigantic ex-Hippies and/or lesbians.

Reminds me of the plot to Night of the Living Dead, or Andromeda Strain. Probe returns with deadly microbes. ooooh scary...

Congrats!

HagarTheHorrible

... loved that episode
