Do you and your daughter collect Hello Kitty merchandise together?

"We went with the Hello Kitty design to specifically attract women, a demographic that has traditionally shown little interest in coin collecting," said Taisei Coins' Kato.

Oh, I don't know about that. My ex is quite interested in my coins. And dollars. And property. Etc.

Sounds more than a little creepy to me...

God I hated the Hello Kitty Posse in my school. Some were nice but most were total beyatches.

2004-06-19 01:35:17 AM

Hey, if I were a fusty old nuismatist, I'd want some young ladies into my hobby.

2004-06-19 01:38:17 AM
Young women?
More like middle aged fat loser anime nerds.

Anyone care to explain the infatuation with "Hello Kitty"? Seems to me that a kitty that walks on 2 legs and has no mouth wouldn't be that interesting, but apparently I am not on the same vibe as the rest of the country.

2004-06-19 01:44:02 AM
I am so ashamed to admit that I want these coins badly.

2004-06-19 01:46:23 AM
HK is enigmatic. she supposedly lives in london with her mom, dad and sis. she has a seldom seen punk rock boy toy named daniel (at least at Hot topic). beyond that, that cat is a world traveler. my fav new image is what i fondly call Latina Kitty. something about her being brown from tanning. not like they are trying to appeal to the largest demographic in the US or anything....

kitten_b is also conspiracy kitty

2004-06-19 01:50:13 AM
Fark the gold standard, we need an HK standard!!!!

2004-06-19 01:50:31 AM
Is this what you're looking for kitten?

2004-06-19 01:50:53 AM

Found this pic of Niki Hilton while doing a search for "Hello Kitty." Honestly had no clue what Hello kitty was. Also didn't know Parris had a sister. Gotta get outta my cave a little more.

2004-06-19 01:52:00 AM
Sit on HK's face! gasp!
Well I do remember some kind of shag fur toilet seats in the 1970's... but I think they were green not pink...and it would just HAVE to be baby pink, fuschia!

Hello Kitty represents pure concentrated cuteness. It is every bigheaded large-eyed little anime kid ever drawn rolled into one... and it's also a cat. It is like injecting a gallon of pure heroin straight into your heart: if you do not die from overdose right then and there, you become hopelessly addicted. Many are drawn to Hello Kitty because are already addicted to cuteness through softer substances, like My Little Pony. However, Hello Kitty is so potent, that they find themselves completely addicted. Before long, a weekly fix turns into a daily binge, and they find themselves wrapped head to toe in white catheads, with a matching tattoo on their right buttock.

Once you become dependent on Hello Kitty, you will never be cured from your addiction. With time and effort, you may force it under control, but the craving will always remain...

Cravings... FROM HELL!!

no, K_N_I
it's an actual honda. not sure if i think it's brilliant or bonkers.

the nicky hilton pic is b/c of the necklace. would you believe it costs several hundred dollars? got a cheapie at the mall for 8 bucks.

2004-06-19 01:56:35 AM
Guess it's something I ought to bring up with women while dating. Can probably tell alot about her vapidity based on just one subject.

/only kidding, I don't date

I liked hello kitty when I was like 3 or something, but I can't imagine a grown woman wanting to drop that kind of money on a coin.

*hides her hello kitty phone, alarm clock, and purse

I mean really, grow up people.

sad to say i'm glad i wasn't the only one to think of the tatoo, but being the whitest chick, practically seethru, i'm not sure about whether to go with outline only or risk it with white ink. thoughts on white ink on white people? a waste? madness? hk would be part of another tattoo, don't wanna tell yet, it's that cool, but that would need to be white in part too.

run on sentences rule.

2004-06-19 02:07:25 AM
nice shoes Toriko. I actually looked for them in NYC and one store said they wouldn't sell them anymore b/c they cost $140! dang...............

2004-06-19 02:10:28 AM
Kitten B - promise you will do better than this:

2004-06-19 02:12:46 AM
HOLY FARK!!!! I CAN'T BELIEVE IT!
(the on the feet part.)

does white ink get blotchy like that or is that just bad art?

2004-06-19 02:15:00 AM
Worship us!!!!

We came from here

2004-06-19 02:28:38 AM

2004-06-19 02:29:19 AM
Am I the only one also crazy over Little Twin Stars?

2004-06-19 02:31:56 AM

That Hello Kitty vibrator (wait, I'm sorry, shoulder massager) is ok, but it only has one speed. It's more of a novelty than anything else.

"Hello Kitty sent my relatives to the Argentine torture camps."

Several years ago someone explained the success of Hello Kitty has follows:

"She has no mouth in which to criticize and judge you."

2004-06-19 03:27:25 AM
I'm more partial to HK's friends Keroppi (kinda vacant-looking frog) & Badtz Maru (bad-ass penguin).

Links to the coins: (can't get images)

Info on coins.

(Gold coin: 1 oz Gold, Face value NZD 100; Silver coin: Silver coin: 1 oz Gold, Face value NZD 1)

The Cook Islands use the New Zealand Dollar.

You'll notice Queen Elizabeth II on the front of the coins -- NZ looks after diplomacy and defence for the Cooks and have NZs sovereign as their own.

2004-06-19 03:53:36 AM
Oops. Obviously the silver coin has 1oz Silver.

kitten_b the final effect of white ink is based on the fact that you see the ink through a layer of your skin. super-white people can pull off pretty nice white ink. mine looks pretty damn white, but its in small areas too. larger areas probably show the variances in your skin. since you are really pale, you should be able to take some nice white ink.

on the hello kitty tattoo front, my ex has a chococat tattoo. if you're reading this, hi! :)

2004-06-19 04:26:44 AM
oh, and that tattoo is on someone's feet, a *notoriously* bad spot for ink. wearing socks and shoes all the time makes it a biatch for the ink to hold well during the healing period, foot tattoos need a lot more touchups than other tattoos. if you are getting it in a more 'traditional' location you will probably have better results. that tattoo looks really good apart from some white ink inconsistancy though.

I always thought we should put Hello Kitty on the nose cones of missiles. Not only do I like the thought of "Hello Kitty: Destroyer of Worlds", but I just love the imagery of the soon to be atomic dust's last vision being of Hello Kitty.

2004-06-19 09:10:47 AM
I always thought the story of Kogepan was more interesting.

Clicky, clicky

2004-06-19 09:25:37 AM
I am all over that.

/has a horrible Hello Kitty affliction

2004-06-19 10:09:33 AM
And for those extra-special FARK links, there's "Goodbye Kitty."

Please, remember the Kitty.

2004-06-19 12:00:32 PM
I have got to have these!!! OMG... I love Hello Kitty. I am just glad that I have a 4 year-old daughter now to use as an excuse to buy the stuff. We're having a Hello Kitty birthday party in August. :-)

2004-06-19 12:33:13 PM
When I was stationed in Japan McDonalds was having a promo where you could buy Hello Kitty and Daniel dolls wearing wedding garb from different cultures.

I got the japanese wedding couple, :)

2004-06-19 05:52:06 PM
haha.. i enjoyed that headline

2004-06-19 06:34:29 PM
I spent most of my time smoking and drinking milk as beer. I became very depressed and pessimistic.

This story really speaks to me.

My friend Sumipan is even more burnt than me. He is called the charcoal bread and he is also my very good friend.

I have a friend like that too. He is fun to be with at 4:20.
