It's always nice to see mob violence encouraged under the auspices of justice.

It would be funnier if it had been a mob of angry virgins chasing down the guy who stole their cow.

Sajem 2004-04-11 10:10:41 PM
There's no justice like angry mob justice.

suffered a fractured skull and a stab wound in the chest.

cornered one of the two and beat him up.

Beat him up seems like a bit of an understatement after reading about his injuries.

/Ain't no justice like vigilante justice

FratBoyPSU 2004-04-11 10:16:39 PM
As the suspects tried to escape, the bystanders cornered one of the two and beat him up.

That's putting it lightly.

Uh sir, there's an angry mob to see you.

Quimby: Do they have an appointment?

Uh, yes they do.

Skinner: I phoned ahead.

perisoft 2004-04-11 10:29:37 PM
Yep - wouldn't it be great if this was how all crime was handled in the US?

Either condemn this, or support complete anarchy in your own neighborhood. Will you be cheering when the bloodthirsty mob mistakes you for a child molestor, too? No? Then shut the fark up and think before your bloodlust overpowers your brain.

BROUGHT TO ME BY WHERE? THE SUSPENSE IS KILLING ME AND NO I WON'T RTFA.

HumanFly 2004-04-11 10:32:29 PM
Wow, I for one think there should be more angry mob killings based on potentially speculative evidence of a man's guilt. On the other hand I'm also very much for people saying, "That punk dun got pwn3d, LOL!!" every so often too.

Blackie_NZ 2004-04-11 10:39:26 PM
Mob justice is alright only if they are virgins and they want a cow.

SimuLord 2004-04-11 10:40:09 PM
I'm libertarian in my leanings...but not so much so that I think the police should be privatized.

But in the Philippines, where the gummint's corrupt as all hell and get-out? Sure, only way justice will be served is through citizens kickin' some ass.

I'd say this was the second case of instant justice today. Phil Mickelson winning The Masters after his effort was the first.

Impudent Domain 2004-04-11 10:43:14 PM
Mob violence is a scary thing, but in this case the mob actually witnessed the stabbing, and probably dont trust the
local law enforcement a bit.
In the old west you had this type of thing, and yes sometimes they strung up some innocent men, but sometimes
its the only way to get any justice.

Savatage 2004-04-11 10:44:18 PM
1) You weren't there, don't judge. For all we know, the robbers could have acknowledged their deed, or even waved the bloody knife around. More likely, the crowd noted two fellows getting out of a taxi containing a stabbed driver who were anxious to vacate the area. In any case, calling this unjustified mob mentality violence isn't quite fair. You alarmist neo-hippy bullshiat liberals. /titter

2) I would like to know when many of you consider the application force to be acceptable in any situation where you discover a potential criminal. Say, a rapist in the streets, or a burglar invading your house. Or someone robbing a convenience store. I won't be able to check it for a few hours 'cuz I'll be asleep, but seriously, tell me.

master_of_none 2004-04-11 10:53:52 PM
Savatage, I think one should in some situations "apply force" in an attempt to detain a suspected criminal. The key word here is detain. Juries should determine guilt, not mobs. This idea is pretty basic to a free society, and is not alarmist, neo-hippy, or bullshiat.

perisoft 2004-04-11 10:54:57 PM
Savatage, I would say that when you're defending your life or that of someone else violence is necessary.

The funny thing is that studies and real life have shown that people almost never DO come to the aid of the innocent in situations like that - ten or fifteen years ago, IIRC, a crowd stood around outside a house watching a woman being raped and stabbed to death, screaming for mercy, for more than half an hour without calling the cops or going to her aid.

I also didn't say that the violence was "unjustified". Justified or not, I think it's a bad idea. Just because somebody deserves to be torn limb from limb doesn't mean it's a good societal solution for random crowds to go do it immediately.

At any rate, the point is that we live in a society (hopefully) governed by the rule of law. Sometimes that rule of law will fail to protect people, but as a whole, the idea is that you're better off with it than without it. And when you say, "Oh, yeah - rule of law except when *I* think that vigilante justice is warranted" you defeat the entire purpose of -having- that rule of law to begin with. So you have to suck it up and deal even when it'd be more 'just' to wreak vengance.

I know that's an awfully commie-pinko-liberal stance to take, but it is what it is...

J.Garcia'sRightMiddleFinger 2004-04-11 11:01:45 PM
this time the crowd got the right guy... it is not always the case, and mobs also kill or brutally injure many a person who probably deserved less... mob justice is not cool, though i can't complain about the results this time

El_Swino 2004-04-11 11:19:16 PM
I think you're referring to the Kitty Genovese murder, perisoft, which happened almost exactly 40 years ago. An angry vigilante mob would have been quite handy that night, I agree, but that's New York for you.

stebain 2004-04-11 11:19:33 PM
If it's instant and it doesn't involve "Just Add Water!!" then it isn't good.

Turkeyhead 2004-04-11 11:27:01 PM
I'd say the mob damn sure got the robber's attention. Muahahahahahah...ah.

funny farking vigilante story i got for ya....
i moved on mar 29 i got up at 7 am to move all my shiat, rented u-haul etc. etc.
so i spent all day moving and by 10-11 pm i had about got all my stuff outta my old place
but as i had been making trips back and forth to my car i had left the door unlocked/windows down.

so i had taking this cheap POS towel rack of my bathroom wall as the last thing and as i go to put it in the car some motherfarker exits MY car.

my woman yells "WTF?" at him and he takes off running
now i got this damn towel rack in my hands still so when i run after him and get close i spiked it on his back and it shattered into pieces.

the farker keeps running and has something in his hands (which i assume is my shiat) so i picked up one of the boards and give chase.
(right about now im wishing i had gone jogging recently)

about two blocks down my street and i start screaming at him that im gonna beat the shiat outta him w/ this board if he doesnt give me back my shiat

he says he doesnt have "nothing man" i threaten him again
and he throws the stuff in the air and keeps running...

by this time im WAYY outta breath and i really dont wanna catch him cuz hes like 6'3' and im a stocky 5'7'

so i give up and stop to see what he had of mine

A PAIR OF SHORTS AND A T-SHIRT

/i live in Florida (insert FL tag here0

he's lucky that my katana wasnt the last thing i took outta my house

El_Swino 2004-04-12 01:12:10 AM
3dhuntdotcom, you're lucky it turned out like that, dude. You'd have felt pretty silly if it had turned out you'd brought a towel rack to a gunfight...

Without even reading this thread, I predict:

65% saying "Awesome," or variations thereof,

26% biatching and moaning about how all life is precious, even criminals, and farkers who rejoice at this death are unfeeling, amoral, baby-eating satanists.

7% arguing with and flaming the sanctity-of-life asshats, thus becoming even bigger asshats in the process, and

1 dumbshiat twit who blames it on Bush, and tries to turn the thread into a political flamewar

/been on Fark too long
//hates use of faux-closing-tags, but uses them anyway

3dhuntdotcom 2004-04-12 01:19:14 AM
true dat swino, but i figured he wasnt packing when he took off running like a little biatch...

gives me satisation to know that he mustve woken up w/ a hell of a backache the next morning

Heh...guy stabs taxi driver, taxi driver stabs guy...

Wonder how hard it'd be to get a "cabby stabby" trifecta?

Zyklon B. Goode 2004-04-12 02:35:47 AM
The piece of excrement was an attempted murderer.
Instead of the courts giving him a slap on the wrist and setting him at large, now he will never repeat the offense.

Noble_Knight 2004-04-12 08:53:27 AM
Should have stabbed him in the nads, so he would not have any spawn.
