It's definitely tough to pick just one but I remember spending a ton of time on this one...

This is actually a print piece I did. Printed at full rez it is the actual size of a movie poster that you'd see hanging in a theater.

It was never entered in a fark contest, but I think it's some of my best work, so here it is.

BACKSTORY:
I work in an office where the conference rooms are decorated with movie posters. In one conference room there were three different "Mummy" posters and for some reason a Billy Elliot poster as well.

I took it upon myself to add a bit of the Mummy to the Billy Elliot poster and replace the one hanging in the conference room at night. I don't think people have noticed it yet, as it's pretty subtle.

Kyosuke That's excellent work!

Kyosuke -- that is definately a very good PS.

I am normally in awe of the photoshop skills on this site. Hell... I'm excited if I can fix red-eye or a scratch from a picture with PS.

Keep up the good work everyone.

/long time lurker... first time poster.. well.. ok.. second time.

Photoshop your favorite cartoon character as your favorite deity:

This one took me a good 12 hours to make, and about 45 layers...

This is from the "Photoshop situation's where a superhero's powers would be a liability" contest:

The base original, which was a cap from an Orkin commercial:

Then I capped an image from my Spiderman DVD that I thought was closest to Orkin man's face shape, as well as matching the shot angle:

Layer masking the capped head into the base image was really simple (the only trick was cloning the background into the right lens of his glasses, but all I did was lock transparency on the Peter Parker head, then set the clone stamp mode to "color", and it painted it in. I think I also blended certain parts of his face with the same method). I did have to remove part of the original Orkin man's head, but having a blurred background helped.

The real biatch was the spider:

I think it took more than an hour with quick masking and the smudge tool to redo the spider. Once the spider was complete, I dragged it onto the base, rotated it, used the liquify tool to manipulate the legs and thorax (the thread was hard to do, too), and voila!:

First place

GZT - do you have that 'mountain lake' source pic available?

KrushR: Would you believe I drew the entire scene freehand?

Yeah, well, I wouldn't believe it either. You can find the source pic here (opens in new window). Enjoy!

Well, the idea was to photoshop Toyota concept cars:

So I combined the two, into this:

Sadly, I think this got red x on going live, because the image host was farked. Either that, or it is just not as good as I thought it was ;)

This contest never actually made it, but once I started working on this blank, I couldn't stop. I even managed to get rid of the water bottles, and the reflection of the guy's arm in the window. My one demerit is for making the shadow of the bar too dark. That was about the point I realized that the submission wasn't going to become an official contest.

The subject was "Photoshop Grimace", but the original Grimace photo is dead. Here's the Sesame Street Fever source pic, though:

For the "Make a harmless toy more dangerous contest"
These are the source images:

Which I turned into this:

The background, smoke, bullet holes, the mouth and eye patch were all made from scratch. The hands were made from pieces of the source's hands.

I just like this one.... OK?

stephenc [TotalFark] 2004-03-12 07:10:04 PM
One more and that's it:

The was from the themeshop "A Hammer, a hankey and a hoe."
I killed two birds with one stone by putting a hoe into the hands of Henry "Hammerin' Hank" Aaron.

High contrast images are great for re-touching up to a point. White can be a remarkably remarkably unforgiving color at times.

The 'O'

The hoe handle was made from scratch.

Jarrett, I remember that colorized Bush one from a while back... Awesome work!

vedman 2004-03-12 07:42:28 PM
This is from a contest last June, where the subject was the golfer Furyk in this original:

First thing I thought was "hmmm, he hit the ball into a pond so he goes and parts the water ala Moses to retrieve it." So, I went to find a nice drink pic:

Then I found some beach scenery, and added it in, being careful to match the perspectives and shaping of the waves to the still water:

Then I added Furyk, a golf club, cliche kitty (had to have a plan B in case those votes didn't come naturally), and Python God because it's a biblical reference, and because I had to have a plan C in case B didn't work out. Notice I blended the clouds around God together with the clouds in the original scene. Attention to detail is what matters, folks.

But wait! Something is missing... ahh yes, shadows. Gotta make it look like the elements are part of the picture:

I was just about done, when I realized I forgot to add in the golf ball. Duh! Oh, and a little ackbar to ensure those precious votes. :) :)

Isn't that ackbar something? I admit I had an easy punchline since sand traps relate to golf, but you can use him if you just find a word that vaguely rhymes with trap! Simply amazing. Welp, that's all there was to it! I hope you all enjoyed this explanation of "Furyk parting the water", and remember, taking that extra 20 seconds to polish up a photoshop will make all the difference in the world!

I ain't been at this so long as most y'all, but I think this one done turned out right purty. From the "Reagan legacy items" contest.
The only decent source for the movie pic I could find was in French. The English version of the tagline reads "Get Ready for the Ride of Your Life".

Well, damn! If everybody else can post more than one "best," I'm gonna show off this little masterpiece....

Original:

My Entry:

The idea for my entry was inspired by a variety of different paintings by the French artist Rene Magritte, especially these two:

I actually used the bowler hat from the first picture in my entry, but the apple and the leaves were adapted and composited in from other sources:

Replacing the title text without noticbly destroying the background turned out to be extremely difficult, so instead I replaced the background with a similar one:

Oh, and then, just because Magritte was French, I decided to replace the Statue of Liberty (which was a gift from France in the first place, but never mind) with the Eiffel Tower:

And there you have it. Almost all of the top vote getters in that particular contest consisted of simply replacing the text at the bottom with some sort of insult directed toward Sean Hannity, with no artistic skill involved whatsoever. Which is to say that my entry didn't get many votes. Still, I feel that it is by far my most "artistic" entry and I had a heck of a lot of fun making it, which is really all that matters anyway.

Oh yeah, and then, just for the heck of it, I tossed this entry into the same contest with voting not enabled:

I was actually quite proud of how it came out, but since it was an anti-cliche protest I felt that enabling voting would defeat the purpose....
