Look at the gallery and then the warning about trying this at home. They show a guy getting fried on power lines. Sooo cool.

tre_bumpn 2001-12-09 03:36:56 PM
Those gallery shots are awesome. Once they do this upgrade things should get really impressive.

I think I saw a Discovery channel show about him (or a show talking about him).

OcterDoctopus 2001-12-09 03:54:54 PM
Let's get down to brass tacks. How many people can I kill with one of these?

golucky 2001-12-09 04:08:55 PM
saw this guy "perform" at a conference 4 days ago.
Lame. Boring. Repetitive. Lame.

Dr. Megavolt????

Should we be on the lookout for Bushroot and Quakerjack too??

And what about Liquidator???

tre_bumpn 2001-12-09 04:40:02 PM
I will kill you until you die from it!

Shaggie 2001-12-09 04:43:56 PM
If it kills you until you're dead then the terrorists have already won.

fouff 2001-12-09 04:50:18 PM
Iknow someone already put this in, but it's worth saying again:

A flash of electrical power of this magnitude will KILL YOU DEAD.

Looks like somebody taunted the Happy Fun Ball.

Who is this Dr. Megavolt and why do we care about him?

Servo5678: Darkwing Duck references? Sweet...

Servo5678 2001-12-09 05:57:07 PM
Jebediah: I was wondering if anyone would pick up on those references. That show was on like, what, 10 years ago?

Jebediah 2001-12-09 06:00:18 PM
Was it that long ago? It doesn't seem that old. But maybe it is.

Quick1 2001-12-09 06:07:28 PM
Unbelieveable. No Command & Conquer references!

Leo 2001-12-09 06:42:47 PM
I prefer the traditional way of zapping flies... That Mr. Megavolt is getting outta hand.

Any fellow burners around? Anybody see megavolt fight the farking three pronged fire shooting robot? That was one of the coolest things I've seen in my life.

Vegasj: My advice to you: GO at all costs. You will not regret it. I spent a lot of money getting there and obtaining everything I needed, building a costume, etc .. but it was completely work every nickel and dime.

Go with a group. Get some friends/people together. Plan on PARTICIPATING and not WATCHING. The more you participate, the more fun it is. Dress up weird. Put on a show. Play some music. Act like a fool (within reason). And *VOLUNTEER* your time somewhere for a little bit to help make things happen.

Plan a camp out, make lists of all the food and supplies you're going to need. Read the survival guide TWICE to make sure you don't forget anything.

My big regrets are: Forgetting to bring Solarcaine for when I managed to burn the hell out of my back accidentally. Forgetting to bring sifficient eating utensils. I brought a single pair of Birkenstock sandals and NOTHING else .. no socks or anything. The dry dust on the playa ate my feet alive. Thank goodness it was only a week long.

Arrive a day or two early for a good camping spot .. stay a day or two late to clean up.

Party party meet people, have fun. You will see things so bizzare and so wonderful that you will have literally *nothing* to compare it to.

Fark, that's gotta suck.

I need one of those nifty tesla weapons from RTCW. I just killed an Uber Soldat with one of those babies.

9/10--
I know a guy who had that happen to him at the shipyards in Norfolk... He was on a boom truck and the hydraulics went out, so the bucket just dropped down onto the lines- he saw it coming the whole way down. No arms, no legs...still gets his share of ass tho...naughty nurses and all.

Transactoid 2001-12-09 11:37:57 PM
Just for accuracy's sake, there is a HUGE difference between the electrical discharges of a tesla coil vs. the electrical charge in say....overhead wires.

TC discharge are of a very high frequency. An effect known as the "skin effect" occurs wherein the current stays over the surface of a given conduct (ie, your body). Thusly, these sparks are "relatively" harmless. (*)

The electrcity in power lines is a very low frequency (60 hz). This is enough to penetrate your body...and kill you.

(*While these sparks are _technically_ safe to touch, a crappy wiring job may result in stray mains voltage making it into the output streamers. In this case, they may be potentially deadly)

SuBourbon: That had to be an awful thing, watching what was coming. I feel for him!

My old man works in a steam power plant. One day the bottom end of #2 boiler blew out under pressure. The fire alarm went off and the employees evacuated the plant. A headcount showed one guy missing - a temporary summer employee(college student). Dad and another guy were sent back in to find the temporary. They found him all right. Dead. The temp was near the boiler when it blew out. He was killed instantly by live steam - temperature exceeding 1000 degrees F. The skin was literally cooked off of him by the steam. This happened something like fifteen years ago. Dad still won't talk about it much. I don't think the guy knew what hit him when the boiler blew out. Nasty.

akachibi 2001-12-09 11:47:57 PM
Yep. Hi voltage will kill you dead, it's all that. So will live steam.

Anybody want to buy a tank?

This guy isn't all that bad. I work with a guy who is known in the TCBA (tesla coil builders association) and made it in the National Geographic as the worlds largest man made lighting bolt.

We have him on video and are trying to put it into a stream for yall to see.

Oompaloompa 2001-12-10 01:21:06 PM
Toetag, you got the name.
